That goes along so well with your user name =]

And "sex & violence" =/= mature, people. I just hope the themes shown in DAI will be handled "maturely".

I am also hoping for that, but the question was regarding the PEGI etc ratings... and they only care about boobs and blood spatters :)

Yes, it's mature. No, it wouldn't be rated as such. Mature in the sense of complexity and depth isn't the same as mature in the sense of ratings. As Ninja Stan pointed out, ratings are more or less arbitrarily handed out on the basis of set criteria.

I don't know if I'd say that they are arbitrarily handed out.

As a general question to people: do you know why "mature content" gets rated as "mature?"

Sex is mature, because it is rated as such - I don't agree but I'm not gonna waste energy arguing with puritans. I wonder what the criteria is when someone applies for a ratings job? Neutral, unbiased... or just anti-sex? Violence is a non-issue according to these folks.

I don't care about "maturity", I care about how thought-provoking or emotionally-provoking a story can be. I just finished Bioshock Infinite and it dealt with some really heady themes that resonated with me on multiple levels. Blood, gore, violence and nudity means absolutely nothing to me if the story is drivel, if it doesn't have any kind of impact or substance.

Give me a game that makes me think about my own family, my own ideology, my own morality, my own values, my own spirituality.

Yeah, stabbing a helpless old scholar in the back because he wants to share his life's work is really justified.... nothing pointless about that. It's not like Wardens are supposed to be politically neutral and it's not really up to you to decide what happens with the Ashes.... Okay, I realize you can argue about this, but still I see a knife at the back of Genitivi's head as rather brutal and pointless.

Warden: *stabs the arrogant noble from the CE origin* This is only an understandable action if you're playing a city elf, otherwise it's plain murder of a guy who happens to be arrogant.

Warden: *stabs prisoner in cage after he tells you about the treasure and the key he has*

That bolded can be justified by you simply don't trust he is not sick, you don't know he is healthy or does not have the blight and thus could go about infecting other people. A Warden kicking him in lava is making sure no one get's sick, it's not pointless.

My dalish elf happily stabbed Genitivi in the back....stupid Andratsians and humans keeping my people down.
Also killed Wynne and Leliana that game.....

Killed the wounded solider too.....felt satisfying...stupid shemlen, probably infected with the taint.
And the prisoner in the cage.....cant trust the shemlen, plus why should i care about him?
Threatened the Chantry mother to get Sten....was sad it didn't come to blows, and I couldn't kill her for the key.
Killed the arrogant noble in the dungeon, he seemed like an evil shem that would hurt my people, and didn't seem trustworthy.
Stabbed the templar, crazy shem, could be danegrous.

Brought the wounded Dalish back to camp, after robbing him of course, and then lied to him about not finding anything on him.

Man, that was a fun playthrough.

(Hey, what can I say, i was having a bad week at work.....)

hmmmm, I wonder when BioWare will finally ditch their crappy romance scenes and finally deserve an M rating for "sexual content"

Would you believe that happened to me, with an ex? Only in her case it was a bathing suit.

And yet nothing is shown.  Did Fox scare them or something?  Nudity can be incorporated well, avoiding it because you might ****** off the media is irritating.

I saw alot of side boob in ME/ME3, including ass shots. News flash, ME did not show nipples or anything. It showed side boob and ass shots, just like in ME3 with Liara.

"We tried to escape, but they found us. They took us all, turned us. The men, they kill... they're merciful. But the women, they want. They want to touch, to mold, to change until you are filled with them. They took Laryn. They made her eat the others, our friends. She tore off her husband's face and drank his blood. And while she ate, she grew. She swelled and turned gray and she smelled like them. They remade her in their image. Then she made more of them. Broodmother..."

First day, they come and catch everyone.
Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat.
Third day, the men are all gnawed on again.
Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate.
Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn.
Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams.
Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew.
Eighth day, we hate it as she is violated.
Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin.
Now she does feast, as she's become the beast.
Now you lay and wait, for their screams will haunt you in your dreams.

... i think it depends on what you mean by 'mature' whether you mean the rating or whether it is actually mature, (we do it differently in england we have age ratings)
But i think that dragon age in general has some very mature themes (and some silly ones which i dont think make it any less of a 'mature' game as it does take some maturity to be able to poke fun at yourself)

But yeh if you mean the rating i imagine 'mature' is the equivalent to an '18' then it would be the blood, violence, sexuality or 'mature themes' (as seen above)

Witcher 2's nude scenes do deserve praise, probably the most well executed yet (not that Mass Effect was bad). Of course they have the advantage of animating only a few characters, with the menagerie available in Dragon Age games that would take many times more effort.

I expect DAI to have blood, violence, language, and sex. There's your M rating.

I really didn't think the violence was that intense - not so intense for an M rating. A T rating would've sufficed since it looks rather toony in most scenes, plus you can turn off the splatter. I don't recall any violent scenes which greatly disturbed me like a violent scene in an R rated film would.

As for the language - it's all pg13 curse words. B*tch, sh*t, a**, damn (the film ET had all those words). I think someone said t*ts once too. No f*ck, no c*nt, no motherf*cker, nothing like that at all. I mean seriously - teenagers (and middleschoolers) say way worse on a daily basis, yet the game is rated M?

Nudity doesn't count when it's on a monster, in my opinion. It's a weird, alien creature with a bizarre anatomy anyway. Plus its entire presence is nonsexual. I guess if the broodmother was sitting around giving the darkspawn bl*wjobs, then...uh...yeah that's rather inappropriate. The harpy in that cartoon The Last Unicorn had very obvious boobs swinging around and that film is for kids, despite its language and incredibly scarier scenes.

If they're going to give nudity to monsters - why not give it to our normal characters too? Sex in DAO and DA2 was incredibly pg13. Undies and makeout sessions - oooh wow! Look guys, we're doing grown up stuff! Are we in 8th grade? Lol.

Please. TW2 scenes where horrible. Naked women for everyone! But nope, let's make sure the men are not though.

Nothing "defines" Dragon Age as "Mature". The rating will vary from country to country. Bioware has absolutely no actual power over how classification boards will rate their game.
