Teamxbox: "Players who access ‘The Cerberus Network’ will receive the first DLC
pack on January 26th (launch day in North America) featuring new
missions and in-game items. Included in this pack is a mission that
introduces Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to
join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind.

After launch, BioWare will release another DLC pack for Mass
Effect 2 that introduces the Hammerhead, a new vehicle in the Mass
Effect universe.
This agile hover tank features improved handling on
rough terrain and maneuvers deftly in combat -- a necessity for players
traveling across harsh planetary environments throughout the galaxy. In
addition to this new vehicle, BioWare will release new missions and
unique in-game items, including Cerberus Assault Armor which boost
shields, health and heavy weapon ammo and the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun."

IGN: "Those who purchase the title new will receive exclusive access to the
'The Cerberus Network,' an in-game pipeline for downloadable content,
as well as daily messages and news on upcoming releases for the game at
no additional cost
. Acess requires players to input a single-use unlock
code that comes included with all new copies, retail and digital
versions."

I'm a little concerned that Bioware is putting in so many big changes (characters, verhicles) in DLC that comes after the release. Makes me wonder if they had a whole bunch of extra stuff that they couldn't fit on two discs and decided to make it all into DLC. Hmm...

I'm confused, so is everything from Cerberus Network free including all additional DLC?

While it was a believable story for Shale to have been cut from DA:O and added to the game by the DLC team: Having their very next game have the exact same DLC format with a bonus party member pretty much proves that they just took something out of the game and labeled it DLC to prevent used game sales.

I find that unlikely, MasterMenace, as DLC has rarely come free outside of first-day releases. Bioware did announce that, with the Network Card, they'd be able to patch the game, add different weapons, and even create expansions on the game. I'm feeling that the big DLC will cost us, but maybe the patches or tiny downloads that we can get will be free. After all, Bioware is interested in making money just as much as it is supporting its fans.

Am I missing something here? If you buy the game second hand, you have to pay to get onto this cerberus network? But isn't the network just to sell you DLC?

... You have to pay for the privilige of paying for DLC? Someone, please correct me here.

I guess you can't really blame them. They get little to no money at all on the sales of used games.

So Zaeed is not a quad member after all. And the Hammerhead is DLC. Interesting way to get around the people who hated the Mako.

My thought is that the Netword Card will include DLC for new missions, Zaeed, etc. in the first place. So you're buying the ability to get DLC as well as the first batch of DLC.

Access to the network will be free, if you buy a news copy of the game.

DLC will probably not be free, except for launch content.

quite puzzled about how the hammerhead will work out as a DLC.

I find it an ingenious move to withdraw certain content and then offer it, to those who purchased the game, for free. This is both an anti-pirating move as well as an effort to encourage new game sales (instead of used game, which means they lose a potential sale). I have no qualms with it since the content returns to us free of charge for purchasing the game.

These news are good, but at the same time very troubling...

But that still means anyone who buys it second hand has to pay to be able to buy later DLC, does it not?

So the Hammerhead won't be launch DLC? Bummer. Wanted to have it in my first playthrough.

A far better solution then onorous DRM.

I don't think it will PREVENT used game sales. It should entice those on the fence to buy the new copy on Day 1 rather than buy it used a month or two later. Most of us here already have the game pre-ordered or will get it on launch day so it really doesn't matter for us.

Considering that ME1 fell flat on its face with respect to DLC, I don't mind this one bit.

Well, EVERYONE will have to buy some of the DLC, I'm sure. But once you buy the Network Card and get that first batch of DLC (if you buy used), then you'll be in the same boat as those of us who buy new. The only difference between new and used copies is the extra money to buy the initial Network Card. Then everyone's on even ground. Bioware will not exclude people who buy used and then purchase the Network Card.

very happy to see that at least some future DLC will be free as well, kinda sad that the hammerhead isn't available at launch, hopefully soon, unless you have to pay for that one, which would be sad, and result in me not having it :(

It says you recruit him. It's safe to assume he's a squad member.

Cerberus network could only ever be available those that purchase brand new versions of the game. Think before heading to the pre-owned section of your local store.

Wish more people could see it this way as opposed to the general response of "OMG WTF? BIOWARE IS SOO GREEDY!!"
