So the Hammerhead won't be launch DLC? Bummer. Wanted to have it in my first playthrough.

Well, at least Bioware will entice us to play the game again. And again. And again.

This is a great idea. With the budget for today's games shooting into the millions, it only makes sense for them to encourage new sales over used (or pirated), and having the used buyers and pirates pay for DLC helps recoup lost money.

As long as I'm reading it correctly and some of the content is free to new buyers, this is very cool.

Well, EVERYONE will have to buy some of the DLC, I'm sure. But once you buy the Network Card and get that first batch of DLC (if you buy used), then you'll be in the same boat as those of us who buy new. The only difference between new and used copies is the extra money to buy the initial Network Card. Then everyone's on even ground. Bioware will not exclude people who buy used and then purchase the Network Card.

.. It doesn't seem strange to you that they want to charge people to allow them to buy more stuff? I mean, it's like paying a toll to be able to enter a shop. Ack, nevermind.

As long as it doesn't stick somebody in my game to sell me the newest DLC, I don't realy care.

Here I am off tweeting and stuff about other Mass Effect 2 goodness and the press release sneaks right past me.

So yes, we can now confirm the Cerberus Network does indeed allow registered users to access DLC, the Zaeed character (which did get leaked a tad early. Thank you Norway  ) and that we have a lot of N7 missions and more content to come in the future.

The Hammerhead is DLC? Suffice to say I was rather surprised by that little nugget. Otherwise it sounds good to me, I'll be getting the game new anyway so no worries

While it was a believable story for Shale to have been cut from DA:O and added to the game by the DLC team: Having their very next game have the exact same DLC format with a bonus party member pretty much proves that they just took something out of the game and labeled it DLC to prevent used game sales.

Hmm...I'm not so sure.  Is it not possible that they simply decided to make this additional DLC at the same time as the main game?  Perhaps if they hadn't decided to make it as DLC, it wouldn't have gotten made at all.
It seems to me that it could simply be a way to whet players appetites for DLC.  A sort of high quality free sample to convince us to buy other content as it is released.

My thought is that the Netword Card will include DLC for new missions, Zaeed, etc. in the first place. So you're buying the ability to get DLC as well as the first batch of DLC.

But that still means anyone who buys it second hand has to pay to be able to buy later DLC, does it not?

Doubtful.  Most likely it's similar to how you can access DLC through Dragon Age on the xbox by going to the Downloadable Content option on the main screen but they also offer the same stuff straight through X Box Live.

What it probably means is that people who buy the game second hand don't get the card at all, and if it's true they'll be using it to patch the game, you might miss out on that too.

Yes. This seems to be the case. Sounds good to me.

Chaos, I think  Chris clarifies it here. By purchasing the Network Card, you get initial access to first-day release DLC and Zaeed.. Which is free. So think of purchasing the Network Card as purchasing the first set of DLC. In that context, it's not bad, really. Depending  on the price of the Network Card, it may still be less expensive to buy new and get the card free.

Hmm, I suppose I'll have to wait and see then.

I allways thought that the best way to fight piracy, isn't through futile attempts at protection that usually just annoy those who don't use pirated versions, while the pirates are spared from them after they're hacked. But instead, companies should simply make it more worthwhile to own an original game...

If Bioware wants to offer me and expansion like Dragon Age: Awakening every 4 months for both games, I will buy them.

As to the rest of the DLC, I get so sick of listening to people whine and complain about "nickel and diming". If you think it's not worth iT, DON'T BUY IT. You will still have a massive game full of content.

The complaints are just pathetic. We've raised a generation of whining crybabies who think they are entitled to everything.

cool so the hammerhead will be like the wardens keep dlc for dragon age? not to fussed about that since it probably wont get used much in the main game anyway(the kodiak will do most of the work) and be more of a help in future dlc missions.

You mean, like, special collectible inserts or a Cerberus badge or something? That would be interesting.

Totally awesome! The more ME2, the better ^^ I've had the game on pre-order for ages, so I'm really happy to get even more content for my money. Thanks, Bioware!

I'm actually looking forward to future DLC. Bioware is one of the last companies left to offer epic singleplayer games, so there can't be too much DLC for me. Nobody can force me to buy everything, if I'm not happy with the content.

No doubt the EA Hate Squad is thrilled at having something to rage at.

(Course I couldn't care less. Bioware makes good stuff)

Nice!

Kind of disappointed that I won't have the Hammerhead right from the start, but I'm really pumped about all the DLC I'm hearing about. Seems like Bioware is really excited about it this time.

Will the dlc N7 quests be intergrated into the flow of the game a little better? BDtS was a fun dlc, but it didn't really fit in anywhere. It just popped up on your map. Would be cool if we heard a news report (like on the citadel elevators) or otherwise had it announced in game somehow.

Huh. Calm and reasonable responses so far. So this is the Mako replacement that they would neither confirm or deny. So people who don't get the Hammerhead, are they stuck traveling vehicle maps on foot? That sucks.

I'm guessing no. This initial stuff will be free, then they go back to charging for it. I could be wrong.

Maybe Kelly will tell us that we have a new mission on our personal terminal.
