I'm a little concerned that Bioware is putting in so many big changes (characters, verhicles) in DLC that comes after the release. Makes me wonder if they had a whole bunch of extra stuff that they couldn't fit on two discs and decided to make it all into DLC. Hmm...

Wait... thats a bad thing...?

If they had stuff they couldn't fit onto two discs, why not put it out there as DLC for the fans who always want more mass effect... you would rather waste their work? Its not like its necessary to buy it...

I have one question... If the Hammerhead is part of a DLC package, what are we going to drive around in if we don't have that DLC? The Mako?

There is a good chance that the DLC on launch day is just some things they didn't get finished and tested in time to put it on the disc.

yup thats the case

The missions that are already in the game use the Kodiak drop ship to place you at a specific location, and you go on foor from there.

I like pretty much everything I saw, and I'm hoping Bioware does add a ton of extra N7 side missions post-release as they're apparently a very meaty part of the main game this time.

The only part I'm a little confused by is the Hammerhead pack, as the press release was vague on pricing details with that. It doesn't say that it's free exactly, only that all Day-1 DLC is. Only problem is it said the Hammerhead pack will come "after launch".

I don't mind paying for it if the price is reasonable, just curious.

BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), today revealed ‘The Cerberus Network’, an in-game portal in Mass Effect 2 that will keep fans engaged with the rich and dynamic Mass Effect universe through downloadable content (DLC) and news. ‘The Cerberus Network’ is activated exclusively by original purchasers of Mass Effect 2 through a single-use unlock code that comes included in retail and digital versions of the game worldwide. ‘The Cerberus Network’ is a conduit for players to receive bonus content as well as daily messages and news on upcoming releases for Mass Effect 2 for no extra charge. For players who do not buy the game new, ‘The Cerberus Network’ can be unlocked through a one-time, in-game purchase of a new activation code*.

Players who access ‘The Cerberus Network’ will receive the first DLC pack on January 26th (launch day in North America) featuring new missions and in-game items. Included in this pack is a mission that introduces Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind.

After launch, BioWare will release another DLC pack for Mass Effect 2 that introduces the Hammerhead, a new vehicle in the Mass Effect universe. This agile hover tank features improved handling on rough terrain and maneuvers deftly in combat -- a necessity for players traveling across harsh planetary environments throughout the galaxy. In addition to this new vehicle, BioWare will release new missions and unique in-game items, including Cerberus Assault Armor which boost shields, health and heavy weapon ammo and the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun.

So people who don't get the Hammerhead, are they stuck traveling vehicle maps on foot? That sucks.

The Hammerhead is for Hostile Planets, so far there aren't any and most likely come with the Hammerhead. N7 mission which have basically replaced the Hostile Worlds from ME1, at least until the Hammerhead DLC, have you dropped off at a location for a specific mission. I read somewhere that there are 30-40 of these things, some are 10 minute long missions(devs said this in video), and some are full blown 30-40 minute long missions(said this in video as well). N7 missions all tie back into the main story or some of the side stories. Main story ones being about the Collectors, Reapers and I believe Cerberus as well. The ones that tie in to side stories are the ones having to do with the stories of the various mercenary groups and Geth.

BioWare said: Every Version will get the Cerberus Card. I think Priestly say this in the old forum.
Still hope my english good enough(i hope i dont make many mistakes.)

I am
a little unsure of that, since the only mention I can now find of the
Cerberus Network card is on the CE. And Chris could be wrong. There's
no guarentee that it will be the same in all regions, and they do love
to make the UK bend over sometimes. just look at the DA:O CE.

The GAME online site mentions only the CE has the card.

If that's the case, it sounds like the ME2 DLC is working on appeasing those of us who miss the enjoyment of exploring planets like in ME1 and not just being "dropped off." Kudos to Bioware if that's true. I'm just disappointed that I'll be done with my first playthrough before the Hammerhead and its add-ons come out.

Huh. I'm not sure I get it.

Are people who buying the new game just getting a steady flow of free, relatively small DLC? Might be a nice long-term plan for them, considering that they'll get the profit from used game sales if the person that buys the used game then purchases access to the Cerberus Network.

Some people seem to see the Cerberus Network as a shop, but the language seems to imply that it's more like a one-time fee for a lot of smaller DLC if you didn't buy the game new.

So yes, we can now confirm the Cerberus Network does indeed allow registered users to access DLC, the Zaeed character (which did get leaked a tad early. Thank you Norway  )

Access to the DLC network is free. The launch day DLC is free. Other then that, one assumes you will be paying for whatever they choose to release.

I just think people have problem reading(not talking about you) since I posted just a little higher on the page the official post, also the "Cerberus Network" is esencially a downloading program and there is NO "Cerberus Card" its just a piece of paper with a code on it that lets you access the Cerberus Network. And it comes free in new copies of the game.Image IPB

I've checked GAME, play and Gamestation. None of them mention the Standard edition getting the card, whereas the CE does.

The Cerberus Network will facilitate all DLC, but it will be able to provide you will patches and updates and DLC of all sizes. Some will be free, such as the Day One stuff and the group of DLC that comes later with the Hammerhead. There will be a variety of DLC after that of varying sizes, some free, some not, my guess is it will depend on the size, the Cerberus Network is a LONG TERM THING.

just a couple of thoughts about people saying DLC should be free on day one

this is somethign that was argued to death on the DAO forums, to the point even Devs got pissed off at the 478574843 threads on why Shale is free and Warden's keep is not

yet, in DAO's case Shale was offered for free for 2 reasons

1: it was a measure to prevent used resale, if it had been a paid DLC it would have defeated the point

2: T.S.P. was cut from the game and re introduced later on because of the delay

Warden's keep was made AFTER the feature's lockdown deadline by the manpower bioware had to spare during the final stages of debugging and polishing

the question remained Whether or not it is right to release day on paid DLC just because circumstances (in this case the spare manpower) make it convenient for you to do so.

in my personal opion it is a matter of budget.

If a day one DLC like warden's keep was to be created with the same budget as the main game then no it should never be paid for otherwise if it was made with a new budget then sure make us pay for it. Note that this is my personal opinion and my personal view on ethics and we do NOT know what budget Warden's Keep was made with (mainly because asking that question  pissed devs off)
