It has been confirmed many times that all new copies of the game come with the card.

I've checked GAME, play and Gamestation. None of them mention the Standard edition getting the card, whereas the CE does.

Okay. Don't want to be rude. We are telling you the word that all editions come with the card came from BIOWARE. What you see listed online is irrelevant.

You are being ridiculous.

THE DEVS SAID IT. ALL new copies of the game, not just the CE, read the first friggin' post, come with the Card, it just has a ONE TIME USE CODE, that gives your account access to the Cerberus Network which is an in-game DLC facilitator. If you buy the game used, even if the person sells it WITH THE CARD, the code will most likely have been used and thus be worthless, so you have to PAY to get your access code for the Cerberus Network. Its not a difficult concept people.

But how long ago did Bioware say this?

I would understand it if only one site said it, but every one I tried says it? I'll wait until a Dev replies to this thread.

Chris,

Can you provide some clarification on the following:

1. The Cerberus Network is being put forward as a free benefit to people who buy new copies of Mass Effect 2. How will this be different than buying DLC off of the Xbox Live Marketplace? Will the DLC not be on Xbox Live? If it is, what is the benefit? Free stuff?

2. The second Mass Effect 2 DLC pack includes the Hammerhead and accompanying missions and items. Is this free to those who have access to the Cerberus Network or do we pay for this DLC? If we pay for it.... with reference to question #1 how is the Cerberus Network a benefit?

This is a bit confusing. It's like creating a secondary marketplace and putting a premium on entry into the marketplace when there are other free avenues. Unless the Cerberus Network has exclusive (Free?) items.... I don't understand what is going on. Thanks.

Also it sounds like once you have you have access that's it. In other words once you use the code, your account has access, so if you, for some crazy reason, sell they game then buy it again used later down the road, you will still have access to the Cerberus Network.

QFT

I got the pre-order CE edition from BestBuy, but on their website it didnt say anything about the collectors armor at the time i ordered it.

I contacted Bioware and they confirmed that the armor was included in all CE orders.

So again who cares what it says on bestbuys, amazon or whatevers website, all it matters is what BW says.

I don't like how sOMEseemingly major parts of the game are dlc, but seeing as I have internet I won't raise a fuss.

It just seems really unfair for those who are missing out on some great content due to lack of internet.

I'm guesing they are doing this because BioWare knows Microsoft, being former bedfellows. This may be a way of either cutting them out or minimizing their involvement, MS doesn't like free DLC. They are all about the money.

I believe you are correct. What I fail to understand is how is having access to the Cerberus Network a benefit. Do you get free stuff if you have access to the Cerberus Network and you'd have to pay for the same content if you only had Xbox Live? Will this content not be made available on Xbox Live, which turns this more into a direct storefront for Bioware/EA (which I'm fine with I feel I should note)? It's a bit confusing.

If you look at what was done with Dragon Age, whether you use Bioware points and buy stuff through the game or if you buy stuff with Microsoft Points through Xbox Live.... there is no difference. The content is priced the same and is available at the same time in both marketplaces. So.... what will the Cerberus Network do differently?

That would only apply to the Xbox version though.

If this is to fight piracy and used game sales, I think it's a great idea and a great business plan. it's much better than giving PC users excessive DRM, and it's really the only solution to beat used game sales, which I would argue hurt the industry more than piracy.

Of course, there will still be people who complain, but shucks to them!

I can understand why some people might complain about "first-day" DLC, but the fact is that none of us have played the game. Seeing as it's two discs, I'm quite sure that it's going to be worth the 80 bucks I will be spending (I'm getting the CE), and the DLC is than extra and worth paying extra. In any case, the fact is that if you are going to buy the DLC than why are you complaining? Just don't buy it!

BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), today revealed ‘The Cerberus Network’, an in-game portal in Mass Effect 2 that will keep fans engaged with the rich and dynamic Mass Effect universe through downloadable content (DLC) and news. ‘The Cerberus Network’ is activated exclusively by original purchasers of Mass Effect 2 through a single-use unlock code that comes included in retail and digital versions of the game worldwide. ‘The Cerberus Network’ is a conduit for players to receive bonus content as well as daily messages and news on upcoming releases for Mass Effect 2 for no extra charge. For players who do not buy the game new, ‘The Cerberus Network’ can be unlocked through a one-time, in-game purchase of a new activation code*.

The benefit is you recive bonus content, whereas if you get a used copy you DONT.

My god, what is so hard to understand.

Get new copy = Get bonus stuff

Get used copy = Get ****

Question: what's the point in releasing bonus content on the day the game itself is released? Why not just include all that in the game?

I love Bioware's new method of piracy prevention -- Make people buy the game if they want to get the full experience. I wish more companies were this creative when it came to protecting their assets, instead of simply inconveniencing their legitimate customers while the pirates find a way to circumvent every precaution in place.

I do wonder about the Hammerhead content, though. If we're getting a game that's complete without it, then where are we going to use it? i can't see us walking miles of open, driveable terrain until we have the tank. So either the DLC unlocks parts of missions included on the game, or the missions downloaded with the Hammerhead are the only ones we can use it for. At least that's all my sleep-addled mind can come up with at the moment.

Maybe they didnt have anymore space left on the 2 DVDs. Would you like to have 2 full DVDs and a 3rd one with only 3% content on it.

Or more likely its a form of anti-piracy. Sure you can pirate the game but you wont get all the goodys as some1 who bought it.

Obviosuly this press release is a lie. Because if best buy doesn't list this brand new information in their list of features, it must be a lie.

Come on people, there is no argument to be had here. This is  the most up to date info. All purchasers of Mass Effect get the code to access the network.
