Oh dear God, please, please don't let it be F2P.
Please?
What's wrong with free to play? I'd expect it to be similar to how it is now except you can actually know what you're getting if you want to spend money.
And built with an eye towards eliminating effective harvesting strategies...easiest way to do that is eliminate the missile launcher.
F2P has its' benefits for players as well. Starting with the game is free, but mostly at least you can expect the game to have continuous support pretty much as long as it has a player base. Planetside 2 is the only other game I play and I enjoy it quite a bit.
I just hate the model. I want to pay my share and then stand on the same line as everyone else, no more, no less. F2P games constantly goad you into throwing more and more money into the game. I don't like that, I find it annoying and distracting. I want to
pay once and be done with it. Money's not the issue, I'm always willing to pay for a good game, and if a constant stream of revenues is required for the game to have continued support, I'd rather have a small monthly fee than micropayments for extra kits, weapons and all sorts of gameplay advantages. Of course, in an ideal situation EA would realize that continuous free support is good for business - but big companies can hardly see past the next quarter.
If ME3 was a F2P game, I don't think it'd be that similar to how it is. Even without the SP component it's a big and expensive game, and for it to be financially successful as a F2P game, it'd have to make a lot of sacrifices. Generally less than 5% of F2P players actually pay for anything, so it'd fall for those few to pay for the hugely increased server load and all that continuos support and extra content.
I don't see it working out.
