 Hi guys:)

I've been playing this game since it got out (casual player), and I still enjoy playing it. I was hoping you could give me a few pointers?

Quick question really - in general do you rest often so you can be fully buffed for each encounter, big and small?
And do you buff right before each encounter because you know you will face an encounter, or do you "scout ahead" and then buff up because you have checked out the area in advance?
Hope you dont mind giving me a few tips on your different gamestyle:)
Have a nice night!

It depends a bit on installation - if someone is using SCS, they better buff for every encounter, even small ones. In vanilla, you can just buff for important encounters. Here's some general tips:

If encountering mage: buff death ward and chaotic commands and resist fear and resist fire on the PC
If encountering cleric: buff with free action and chaotic commands (to prevent confusion)
If fighting illithid/mindlfayer: buff with chaotic commands on everyone, unless someone has save vs. spells at 0, they shouldn't need it.
if fighting druids outside: buff with protection from lightning

Whether you use your knowledge of what's to come is very much up to you. One way to avoid this problem to some extent is to always use a stealthy character (thief, ranger, monk) to scout ahead of the party and report on what is ahead. You may still need to consider whether your party would know what to do against the enemies described of course - is it common knowledge on the sword coast that carrion crawlers paralyze ...
