On the other hand we got Eve and FemShep so...

Austin does some questionable gendered choices. I wouldn't say they were sexist (way too loaded a word) but they hit my "really?" buttons often.

Wait... Austin did Mass Effect? That can't be. I was referring to the team that screwed up TOR.

I can't help but find it a little weird how aggressive the OP is about this subject.

When Katie Holmes began dating Tom Cruise, people wanted them to break up simply because she was taller than him. People also claimed she was no good for him... just because she was taller than him. There were even a few people who wanted her to get some kind of magic surgery to become shorter than him. People said she was being "rude" and "disrespectful" just for wearing heels and making herself even taller. There is a gross "how dare you be taller than a man" attitude that people get with tall women because "women must be shorter than a male partner" (which is a gross attitude all on its own). And I see this crap almost every day. So that would be why I am so weird about it.

I definitely do not fall into a height category where I would be exposed to this kind of attention, but I can understand why it would (further) aggrevate the change of standards set in a fictional universe; namely, adjusting the height of male elves in DA2, but you must understand that your example is extreme. If it weren't that all characters (of the same race) in game had the same skeleton, one could argue either than FemHawke was short or Fenris tall. The Elves are getting reworked and the Qunari are at least being touched up for a new engine and art style; if we didn't have the information we did, for all we knew they could be reverting to DAO style Qunari. You'll have to pick your battles and adjust, I think.

A weight slider is a nice place for RPGs to start, but time won't deny you a height slider too, I think.

I think you've lost that battle, based on the little bit we've seen of qunari women.

Wait...what makes you say this?

Please don't tell me my dreams of playing a female most characters have to look up to is ruined. :crying:

The fact that you're labeling this as "gender roles" when it is actually reality (and not a perception like gender roles at all) is...telling.

I don't understand the logical trajectory from male elf height increase in one game to Qunari female height decrease in another game.

No one (except the developers) can explain the male elf height increase.

Your assumption invalidates your argument.

I think Qunari height will depend more on the level design.

I don't think your a loony, though. ^_^

I completely agree that Qunari women should be taller than human men.

However, I disagree with your assumption (gender roles and such).

As a side note, most of my DAO characters were male elves that romanced Morrigan. The height difference never bothered me.

It was just stupid. Miranda's ass could be passed off as a "haha" from ME2 but EDI just...there was so much no.

Same here.

Save the DAO male elves romancing Morrigan. I couldn't even make a male elf I always turned them female. :D

I now find your perspective to be frankly insulting to myself and my colleagues. After attempting to strike up a conversation about how this may not be the case, I found my responses ignored while you continue on about your assumptions must be reality.

You'd like this to not be the case. Fine. Feedback noted. Convince me why this thread should not be closed, because right now I'm of the opinion that you are more interested in reaffirming to everyone that we altered the elves specifically to make them physically submissive and to, frankly, be sexist about it.

Now, I am willing to admit that my interpretation of your intentions is fueled by a perspective of mine that is rather defensive at the moment. So how about we talk instead of letting each other's assumptions conclude the worst in each other.

I didn't say you (or anyone) did it consciously. People cling to a lot of grossly racist and sexist things without even realizing it.

"The woman (key word -------> ) MUST (<------ key word) be shorter than a male partner," is not reality. It's an expectation a certain gender (female) must fulfill, and is complete garbage.

I don't know what any of you are talking about.

Leaning towards this.

It's true what EntropicArts mentioned on the first page - however, the path I see could take two directions: One(less ideal, but the easier/more employable possibility), would be to have them simply be the same heights. Or two(the more ideal, but unsure if it would be worth employing) would be to have an adjustable height/weight adjustment in character customization. I'm not really bugged personally by the height thing, but I'd expect the same protagonist to have at least roughly the same height.

I think I'm content to continue "clinging on" to these ideals out of sheer spite. Seeing people like you get riled up is amusing.

Giving in to the stereotype of ''in order to make female characters sexy we must make them shorter than male humans'' would be pretty sad, but I can totally see Bioware making female Qunari regular humans with grey skin and a pair of horns.

So those giant spiders we were fighting in DA2 were probably females. D:

Cause if those things get bigger NOPE. *aborts the mission*

Honestly the height thign always hit me as

Qunari Male > Qunari Female > Rest of the races

I will be so disappoint if Qunari females are for some reason shorter than human males (or even the same height really). I wanted to play my horn headed giant ;_;
