For me, my dream team in vanilla BG has always included
Minsc
Coran
Edwin
Kivan
Viconia
And for BGII its I replace Coran and Kivan with Korgan and Jan, and probably play myself as a half-elf blade
Two biggest things I'd be worried about is that the blade is going to be a terrible choice for almost the entire duration of BG1 until its level gets around the double digits. Can't tank, can't cast worth **** and can barely fight, so that's going to make it rogh road probably.
My other worry is the effectiveness of armor in SCS. Obviously Viconia and Jans HP pools are terrible, so if I see heaps of anti-magic in the game then these two are going to die a lot which would be bad because dead party members are useless.
Would my regular vanilla BG party stand up to the Sword Coast Strategem mod?

The blade class actually performs pretty well in BG1. The offensive spin isn't much use in BG2 once improved haste is available, but in BG1 provides a huge improvement - rather than tanking just give your blade a bow. Don't run down the usefulness of spells either - it's true blades don't get as many as mages, but they still come in handy (when comparing remember that bards level quickly so are normally at least one level above your mages).
I would suggest using Minsc as your tank rather than Viconia. Provide him with the bracers of dexterity and he'll do a good job for you.

Okay, thanks. On second thought, I'm thinking that blade might be a bit too cookie cutter for me to have lots of fun with it, so what I might do is make a wizard slayer dualed to druid instead. I don't think it'd be a good PC, and I like the people too much to replace them with custom made mute, so I can accept a bit of shadow keeper cheating in this case.
