That is literally the only thing I care about. Otherwise, the world of Dragon Age is not sufficiently different from most Western Fantasy to catch my attention.
What makes the Dragon Age lore so special?

In most fantasy games mages seem to live among normal people with no problem- while Dragon Age actually looks at the prejudice, hatred and fear regular people would have for them.

In dao the origin of the darkspawn was intriguing part they went nowhere with it but they ended up being your standard "evil for teh lulz" baddie

What's the worst it can do? Go insane and lead an army of darkspawn? That just puts you back at square one: kill it (with fire optional).
Well, minus all the people that would die in the process. But lets not bother with minor details like that.

Gaider has people helping him develope the lore.
There was a thread about that some months.
Not a knock on Gaider but there are a lot of fantasy rpg writers who have developed a lore that the fans find fascinating .
The exception with DA is there's a decent rpg video game associated with it.

Other than that I like the amount of effort put into a believable religion.

Who told about something unique? The thread is about what makes Dragon Age so special for you. It doesn't have to be something unique.

In fact much of what is on there comes straight out of TES or LotR

I like dragons that have four arms/paws that are not part of their wings. I don't like the dragons of Skyrim because when they land on the ground they look like an overgrown bat and I don't find them fighting on the ground and after seeing them on the ground looking like a mutant bat they lose all frightening aspects in the sky.
I like Leliana and Isabela I find both of their characters intriguing and mysterious. I like that every time I think that I have them figured out they surprise me.

I like "these features" and don't like "those features". I don't care if they are unique or not.
I like Dragon Age series, and don't like Witcher series. I don't care how much unique features each one contains.

I think what sets DA apart is the approach the writers took to magic and how everything in the world in a way stems from that. Also the characters.

I'll lol at the no witchers aspect. The Wardens are essentially just that, physically enhanced, politically neutral, monster hunters. They just don't do it for pay and specialize in one type of monster.

Wardens aren't physically enhanced.
