 With my little sister.
So a year ago I got my little sister, 14 years old, to play Dragon Age
2. She loved it. Afterwards she started Origins and although she wasn’t pleased
by the graphics, at first, she loved that too. Awakening soon followed.

Now here’s the kicker; Inquisition is a year away, and I’ve been trying
to get to play Mass Effect since I’m sure that she’ll like it as much as Dragon
Age. Sadly she doesn’t like sci-fi and space operas, apparently.

What can I say to convince her to give Mass Effect a chance?

I am the opposite. Help me like Dragon Age! God, I hate the controls in that game. (I saw one reviewer actually give the xbox version a 6 out of 10 based on the crappy, crappy controls) And the story is not all that compelling, although I did enjoy romancing Leliana.

Well, JM, what I would do is have her watch an episode of Battlestar Galactica with you then have her watch you play a little ME. She'll soon see the correlation (FTL, Cylons, etc.) and how much fun it is to be playing in those worlds. Also let her know that there are quite a few young ladies playing this game. It is not a guy thing.

Good Idea, I was thinking more along the like StarGate, Star Wars and Star Trek since those shows got me into the setting when I was younger, but I fear they're a little dated by todays standard.

but thanks, I'll try it.

Bioware's strengths are the characters they create. As Sasnak suggested, let her watch you play a little. Maybe just the first mission and explore the Citadel. Talk to all the characters and make sure you point out all the lore and tell her a bit about the different people and races. If she's not interested in what happens next, then maybe it's just not for her.

Here's an idea. Have her watch Mordin sing Salarian Scientist. How could you not fall in love with the game after watching that?!

Until Mass Effect, I didn't have any real interest in science fiction games. But I rented the first one after hearing good things about it and haven't stopped since.

Can you build a half-way decent likeness of her in the game? That might help....
