Over the years I have been reading the BioWare forums there has been one complaint that constantly come up over and over; people wanting a romance option from non-tomanceable teammates. BioWare is pretty good at listing to their fans and in there last two games they have done a good job with this. In Dragon Age any teammate you could seriously want a romance sub-plot from you could have one, and aside from Tali (and I dont think anyone one at BioWare could have predicted the massive tali love) you can pretty much say the same about Mass Effect.

As I look at the teammate list for ME2 I have some doubts that they are going to satisfy fans on this. Any even somewhat attractive female is going be some group of people's favorite team member and they are going to want a romance option for them. Going down the list of female team members plus the already known romance with the ship's yeoman Kelly that puts the total up to five. If you look at the male teammates you put that number up to seven or eight.

You may be thinking, "So what's the problem? BioWare could have just made eight romance subplots. BioWare can do whatever they want in their game." Yeah? Well BioWare cant print money. Games are made on a schedule and on a budget. Writing, voce acting and scripting eight romances would be a big commitment of time and money that could have been spent ells where like on the reworked combat they spent so much time on.

For the last two years it has been a constant flow of "Why no Tali romance?" "Request for Tali romance DLC" and "Tali love" threads. If BioWare doesn't get this right it could be just the same for the next two years but maybe even three times more.

Wait, are you for Bioware or against them?

Personally my opinion on the topic is that as much as people might want to romance certain characters, the character might not want to romance Shepard. Story and realism and character motivation first.

Heck, they should have it in ME3 that you CAN hit on everyone, but most of them would turn you down.

it will be the same for ME3, no matter what. even if they did put in tali/garrus romances, people would then start complaining about "why no samara/mordin/grunt/ zaeed romance?! wtf bioware i love them!" they cant appease everyone, as you stated, they have time and money (and logic) to consider when putting anything into the game. someone somewhere will always have some problem with some feature, lack of feature, new feature, old feature, changed feature, feature that wasnt what they wanted, feature that diminished the action, feature that diminishes the rpg factor,  feature that isnt complex enough, that is to complex, that isnt their favorite colour, that doesnt have the right voice.....

point being, they can only really take into account the changes wanted by the majority; i dont think a few hundered [if that] forumites ever constitute a majority, but who knows, we'll just have to see in game whether they actually took to heart the pleas for tali/garrusmance that their diehard fans had.

y. Games are made on a schedule and on a budget.

Tell that to Remedy in regards to ALAN WAKE, Ubisoft in regards to SPLINTER CELL CONVICTION or Rockstar in regards to GTA IV.

If BioWare need extra time to put in a feature I'm sure they can have it.

I'm pro-BioWare but I will admit they make mistakes. As for this topic I'm just curios how they are going to handle it. Its ether going to be a ton of romanceable teammates or a ton of jaded fans.

I really don't think people will be dissatisfied after this game, but being dissatisfied and complaining are different things. People want to be part of the "Thane Love" thread because it's out there and better than the "We Are Happy With What We Have" thread. TheTWF is right and I'd LOVE the idea of hitting on Samara and her being like "Child, please". That would be awesome. Seriously though the subplots weren't THAT huge in ME1, you pretty much had the same conversation with the person only at the end they would add a "what about us?". Idk how long it took Bioware to do DAO, but after tackling that massive game, plus ME2 (not to mention Star Trek or w/e else they have going on), I think they know what they're doing.

It's the fate of the "game master" to never satisfy any of his players to the last. There will be complains, there will be more threads, thats how it works. If you're lucky, people thank you for a great game, before they start to complain about even the tiniest flaws.

  • the romances suck
  • the fights suck
  • the chargen sucks
  • Shephard is an assclown and sucks
  • The ending sucks
  • Everything in between sucks
  • My dick sucks
  • your dicks suck
  • Noone sucks my dick
  • I´d like to suck your dicks
  • ..........................................

Since when did romance become the de facto part of a bioware game? It shouldn't have that much relavance for something that accounts for .00001% of the spoken dialogue in the game. You can't expect everyone in the game to be a romance option. Such a dead horse here.

I never said it was an important part of the game. I pointed out that this is a constantly heated topic on the boards. You would have to be blind or in a coma to have not seen the hundreds of Tali threads after ME1 came out. It could easily be even worse and more heated after ME2 comes out. The horse is very much alive.

I will admit that even if every teammate had a romance option people would still find a way to complain about them. ("No Fish Tank Romance?" thread maybe.) But I just cant see them doing eight different romances. Imagin if to save time and money they didn't have a Samara romance. Wrote in some lines about her being too focused on her task of destroying evil to allow herself to get distracted by love affairs. Tons of people would go nuts on these boards.

Uh, it really wouldn't be that hard for BioWare to give the majority of fans what they want in ME2. Hudson said there were three romance options for each gender. If males get Miranda/SuZe/Tali and females get Thane/Jacob/Garrus, then the only people with issues will be those that want a Samara romance. And they're in the minority.

I REALLY doubt that BioWare is going to get any significant complaints because they won't let you romance Mordin or Grunt.

Oh, I don't think it will be an issue. They're not throwing romances in for EVERY character. That would be ridiculously expensive and time-consuming I imagine. I'd say we'll probably have as many options as DA:O perhaps, and not more than that. Sure, people might complain about not getting who they want or start love threads, but it goes with the territory when you do have romance subplots I guess.
