Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the character....but I saw a few polls and Tali was usually 10% or more higher than every other character (favorite character polls)

And I was wondering....what makes her so damn popular...

As my favorite characters go its Wrex, Garrus...then Tali and even then she is basically tied with Liara and Non squad characters..

Here is my hypothesis, players like smart, capable, strong willed and....energetic, female characters...(being a male I am speaking from a male point of view)... Liara fills parts of that being smart and energetic but she isnt the strongest character (atleast in ME1) when we find her we have to get her out of her own mess and her almost fainting after every mind meld thing didnt help. The other female is Ash of course, who is a very strong and capable character...but not really smart and kind of a ****. Tali on the other hand, meets almost all of these criteria, she is, as far as I can tell, almost a flawless character, atleast from what we have seen so far....oh and I supposed the mask could add a bit of mystery that the fans like...personally I find that sort of thing annoying.

So Forumgoers, what is your opinion, why do fans like this character so damn much, or if you dont like the character, why? And if you agree with my hypothesis why would BW add a character that is almost perfect?

NOTE: This is not a Talimance thread..there are plenty of those, this is desgined to be about character analysis...so go take that alien lovin elsewhere :alien:

This is why I like the character, personally. Her and Wrex make excellent entrances. 10 seconds after you see her she blows up 2 goons and helps in the firefight. She's obviously very intelligent and her and wrex together have some pretty good zingers in your party.

Though most of the fanfare got started I think with the Ensemble Darkhorse http://tvtropes.org/...sembleDarkhorse

Mysterious (not seeing face). Adorable enthusiasm, not just for machines but for enjoying the galaxy. Also, the HIPS!!! sorry, had to say it lol

My thoughts:

1. She can't be romanced in ME1 ("forbidden fruit" much?)

2. Her culture and personality are interesting, conversations (which is the majority of a romance) with her are thus more interesting.

3. Her bio suit conceals her features, making you even more curious.

4. Ditto on the strong willed aspect.

I don't hate Tali or anything, and I'm looking forward to learning more about the quarians in ME2, but I never understood the Tali love. After you bring her onboard, she hardly says or does anything.

Also, OP seemed to describe Tali as something of a mary sue. I dont really see that, because she does have flaws (you try and convince her that its wrong to wipe out a species just because they are synthetic, i never could)

And the Tali love wasnt as strong when the game came out, it has just had several years to propagate on the forums and increase.

Her and Liara had my Infiltrator's back the whole duration, including both achievements.

She is tough, curious and loyal, plus tends to say the wierdest things. Also rocks the room with  shotgun.

it is her youthful spirit that people wouldve liked to explore and lack of any exploration of character thereof that gives her an auroa of enticing mystery, people probably started to create their own ascertations about her character and, now being the fruits of their fantasy, men and women, straight and gay alike want to romance her. shes vague and attractive enough at first glance to draw in anyone and everyone to start thinking of what inevitable explorations of character ME2 will improve upon. to loosely quote james t. kirk , "if you dont tell me your name im gonna have to make one up" meaning that people made their own fantasies (not just sexual<_<) about her, and are drawn to what it is, if only subconsiously, even if they dont realize or care for whatever it is, their creation.

my psychological analysis of the tali cultists anyway

I don't get why people love or hate any of the characters as much as they do. There are characters that I really like but people on here take things way too far.

I like Tali because she is so unique. Her Quarian history and backstory was interesting for me to learn about and her overall personality is very fun and youthful. Her voice is also very good! I also love to see her shoot a huge ass fireball from her shotgun. =P

I've always been meh on Tali. She seems interesting, but she isn't expanded upon enough to grab my attention. Same with Garrus, and he and Wrex were with me, like, all the time. Wrex and Ashely were the only two characters (teammates wise) that I felt any real connection to. So I merely felt indifference towards Tali, and I'm not all that eager to have her back on my team. I mean, I'll take her, but she isn't someone that I have to have.

She's an interesting character. Very well-spoken yet able to take a joke, nowhere near a cliche, very believable in the ME context; yet she's still got some kind of shyness about her which is very feminine and somewhat royal. I don't think there's much to fantasize about her; besides the mask she's a very definite personality with strong traits - actually she's not the most open-minded member of the crew and my Shepard bumped heads with her about the Geth.

I must say that most of the interest came out of the lack of other options too - if Ashley and Liara were less boring, there wouldn't have been all this hype about Tali.

Great voice too! Very calm and soothing.

She's a knowledgeable historian/engineer Gypsy with a youthful naivete that can't be beat, a knife in her boot, and is about the only female in ME who doesn't either have massively large breasts, is hopelessly stupid or shows far too much skin than any self-respecting female would.

She does have hips, yes... but methinks females are better paper thin, anyways. That doesn't count.

In short, a very well developed female character that really doesn't channel the sterotypes all that much. Far better than the two dimensional "Christian Girl" and "awkward Alien pseudo-scientist" we had as LI's. In fact, five out of six of my Sheps are still virgins.

Honestly, I found her kinda dull, but I assume much of her appeal can be attributed to her voice actress. ...also her mask. I think Peter Andre said it best:

"Mysterious girl, I wanna get close to you."

I personally think she's a fan favorite because of her hips, mystery aspect of how she looks brought on because of the suit, her voice, and because her personality can be defined as youthful yet strong, with an underlaying confidence and intellect. The Quarian society that she describes to you is interesting. It makes you interested in the Quarians, and by extension her a lot.

That said I honestly never really looked at her in a romantic way in ME1. By the end of the game I viewed her more like a sister then somebody to potentially hook up with.
