So why is Tali a fan favorite? not a romance thread.

She's funny, spirited and her enthusiasm for technology is adorable and infectious.

And her voice.

I agree wholeheartedly. Tali is so cute when she's admiring the Normandy, and her accent is delicious. I've said it before... I'd listen to Tali narrate the whole damn trilogy, happily.

The only female squaddie I could stand talking to in ME1.

That, or it was back to Ash and her xenophonia, or Liara and her blandness...

Ash isn't a xenophobe. Her reasoning for not trusting aliens is perfectly reasonably. It's just not a popular opinion, since everybody is apparently supposed to love everybody else.

The interesting thing is that while -let's say- 35 % of the community finds themselves to be a Tali fan, another 35% don't even care if she's alive. The rest -like me- is somewhere in between.

I can safely say that Tali is my favorite squaddie in ME2 and was pretty much my favorite in ME1. I support the option for a Tali romance, however, I am not one of the slobbering fanboys who look at her hips all day. So yes, I would like to see a talimance, but wouldn't be miffed if it doesn't happen. I think she is a great character, personality-wise especially, but its not like I have a fetish for her.

And don't take that as though I think less of the people that do. If they think that way, thats fine, its not bad, I just don't particularly agree, and I don't feel as though their opinions are any more "wrong" than my own.

I've said it before, but I think that's the shape of her outfit. Bioware wouldn't give Tali talons, neither would they make her face look like an ant.

Anyway, the whole "forbidden fruit" argument is lame. If Tali was a romance option in the first game, she'd still be just as popular. After the release of ME2, she'll also remain as popular as ever.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced there is a connection with why people like Kaylee from Firefly so much, they are quite similar characters personality-wise.

Observe this picture of Legion, specifically his feet: http://images.gamest...00x600_prop.jpg

That is probably what the quarians' feet look like, except less pretty.

Tali kind of reminded me of a retarded kid jumping up and down at a dock exlaiming "boat, boat" over and over. But yelling "engine, engine" instead.

People who like FOX News love Ashley.

That last one isn't really true, I'm scottish and liberal and I really like Ashley (Not as much as Tali, it must be said). She's by far and away the best ME1 LI, she's easy to get along with, easy to sway her beliefs and make her see that Aliens aren't all that bad (And is thus, nowhere near as boneheaded as American Conservatives), and if that's a dig at her being a christian, then you're a particularly sad individual for being unable to accept that part of her without making it derogatory.

In other news, Tali is awesome, and I really hope she's an LI this time around, my main character didn't romance an ME1 LI for that reason.

This. I would listen to her read the Grapes of Wrath or Great Gatzby I love her voice so much.

And just for the record, I view Tali completely platonically. She's like a little sister to me. But man... dat voice.

I don't mind her,I don't think she's great, but she's alright

I don't have any sympathy for the Quarian as a species though,They got what they deserved.Just hope there isn't a party breaking argument when Legion joins the crew,Otherwise a certain Quarian's going out the Airlocks.

She's just a really appealing character.....

You can talk to her about her culture, her pilgramage, her family, the geth, and it just seems like she has so much more to say than any other characters(Although for interesting conversation Wrex runs a close second) and what she does have to say is just..... Better. She's interesting, enthusiastic, and a driven individual.

Also, hips.

Just so we're clear.  The Quarian government tried to shut down some AI (an act of murder probably) and they suffered genocide and 300 years of exile.

I take it mercy is not really in your vocabulary?

Nope, why would they know a concept of mercy? They were never taught it. It's like letting your ten year old drive a car. Then after he crashes it you ask him why he didn't know how to drive, because no one taught him.

*sniff* 5 pages and it hasnt devolved into a romance thread, im so proud.

Now this is just a question of Quarian equipment, are the masks tinted a color, or gas filled? if Tinted, then one could make the assumption that their culture has moved to a point that they dont like others seeing them, and if its gas filled, then its for protection purposes.

Only read OP, so I don't know what else has been said.

I guess for me there are several levels to it.  In the first game, while it is true you go to "save" her because she has information you need, she seems to be remarkably capable and could possibly have made it out of that situation on her own.

She is enthusiastic and energetic, and while intelligent and a critical thinker she does have a naive air, well, maybe more a "fish out of water" aura around her that makes her experiencing life outside of the floatilla endearing.

Through ME1 I thought of her sort of like a kid sister.  Or to use a more Japanese meme, the younger girl following me around who is very capable but needs my protection while always calling me "sempai".

There wasn't really a dislike for any of the other party members for me, but except at certain times none of the others grabbed me.  There were moments when it felt "right" to be run-and-gunning with Wrex, or helping Kaidan through his past, or showing Garrus the errors of his thinking...
but outside of moments, none of the other party members were ones I got attached to.

So that's my reason for liking Tali so much.
