She has a cool accent.
The mask is awesome.
The fact that her race is so conflicted, which is especially highlighted in Mass Effect 2, as both the "ruffians" in the galaxy, and just how split their own society is brings in plenty of thought.
Plus she's pretty funny, and since I don't usually have tech skills, I tend to bring her on alot of missions.

Then there's the mistery aura and her shyness, combined with her enthusiasm about nearly everything and her sweet accent makes she totally adorable.
In ME1 she was always in my combat group; i'd liked to romance her instead of Ashley or Liara.
In ME2 I stopped any other romance option just to be there for her, and also she was always in my combat team.
Also she is extremely sexy.

Mysterious aura about her? Check.
Exotic (at least imo) accent? Check.
Personality that makes you wish she was real so you could get her to pounce on you? Hell yeah!
Not some sort of damsel in distress with no brains? You bet your **** she'll fight back!
Able to act shy and feminine and at the same time, tough and deadly? Check.

But tops? Garius from ME1 was probably my fav, then Tali, Wrex, Liara, Ash, and Alinko never mattered to me (I didn't even know ME1 had a romance option for females to pursues lol)
But I hear Tali is made of gold under that suit..

I understand that you may be aggravated by the creepy fanboy-adulation, and while I understand that obsessiveness from some people does not prove that she's a good character, it doesn't prove that she's a bad character either.
(I'm mainly going to reference ME1 here, b/c I haven't gone too far in ME2) She is, to this point, my favorite character in the game for a number of reasons. The first reason is her compelling situation. In a story overloaded with gritty battle-type characters (Ashley, Garrus, Wrex - and probably for most people - Shephard) She was basically a child thrust into a hostile universe, doing her best to prove that she is a capable adult. It's made clear that most species harbor resentment towards Quarians, and from the various conversations in the elevators we can tell that the rest of the party shares pretty much the same feelings, ranging from resentment to suspicion.
Based on her position in a lone corner of the engine room, I got the impression that the rest of the party had not taken to her (I'm assuming here that Bioware put at least a little thought into that), and though she initially expresses anxiety and regret to Shephard, she soon carves out a meaningful place in the crew, fascinating herself with the core of the ship, as well as making friends with (and impressing) the officers in the engine room as well. It's difficult to not give her your empathy; she's one of the few three-dimensional characters in the game who demonstrates both vulnerability and strength.
She also lucked out by having a great actress portray her (the name of the actress eludes me at the moment). Most of the actors deliver an average to robotic performance, but Tali's actress really hits it out of the park; when Shephard talks to her, you can really feel her sanguine personality, and her admiration towards Shephard, even when she says "see you later", it really feels like she means it. Having a great performance flesh out a personality should not be discounted.
Liara - not-so-great acting/writing, flat character. Wrex - Pathetic. His terse, matter-of-fact tone actually makes me feel like he's that wanna-be tough guy craving attention. Garrus - There's 20 guys like him in every episode of 24, or every cop movie of all time. Ashley - the embodiment of the old sci-fi trope that every female should possess only traditionally male attributes.
There's my argument: let me know what you think!

I am conservative and I don't like Ashley.
I am also very pessemistic, and I like Liara.

Of course, I am a woman, so her hips, waist, and bust have no effect on me. I'm sure it is these three traits, combined with her "imagine the face of your dreams" helmet, that accounts for her appeal. If she was built like Jack, but otherwise identical, she would not be NEARLY as popular. Tali is built like a brick outhouse, and she already has a bag over her head, so she is the perfect woman for males 'of a certain age'.
So ladies, let this be a lesson to you. Men like hips, so instead of trying to be über-thin, work those curves.

You mean those Quarian thrusters leave you uninspired?
Ok, seriously, Sian is right. There is plenty of opportunity for imagination with Tali. I think that is what it comes down to. It's a bit silly, really, to be so enamored with a digital character. Yes, I said it.
But then there is Samara, an entirely different story indeed....

I like Tali well enough in ME1, but she was never a favorite. I thought the mask was a copout, I didn't find it mysterious at all, just a shortcut so they wouldn't have to fully design quarians. Then I became aware of the obsessive devotion of the Talimancers, and their undisguised lust has since made me much less receptive to the Tali character.

Anyway. Sian can ı make a point that tali's characteristics, her voice, (yeah maybe her body shape but she was my favourite female char in ME1) and all things make tali who she is attracts me. İf it was only body shape samara or miranda would have taken the first position as favourite char among the players. So hell yes. Tali is special for me.

2: Dat ass.
3: Dat accent.
4: Dose hips.
5: Dat ass (it bares repeating).
6: Her people are fascinating imo, and I really think the Geth/Quarian thing is one of the most interesting parts of the universe to Mass Effect.

Even when Shepard chooses her to be his LI, she says that she'd "understand if he'd want someone else." I think this shows an uncommon selflessness and is indicative that she truly cares for Shepard... I simply could never deny her for that reason. Plus, the flirting in ME 3 is priceless!
But, in the famous words of Mr. Moreau: "That's just my opinion, no need to go spreadin' it around."
