Developer explained somewhere that gender of alien spieces is hard to identify, the same way you see a crocodile laying on some beach you can't say it is male or female even if you get weary close to it.

Well, let's see:

Krogan - we know woman are quit valuable to them, this may be the reason you just don't see them in combat or on the Citadel.

Volus could only be told apart in terms of voice.Pressure suit issue.

Salarian woman rarely seen outside Salarian Systems

Elcor i'm willing to accept that i can not tell them apart.

Hanar, same as above, plus artificial voice, since the can't vocalize.

Quarian, you see what appears to be Male Quarians during the Tali-Trail, irrc.

Asari well... obvious.

That leaves Turians as the race we've seen no females for an unstated or unbelievable reason.

You never heard most of the NPC's hanging around the ward or presidium speak. So who's to say what gender they are.

And think about it. Do you really want to see a Krogan female pole dancing in Chora's Den? I don't think the Turian hip structure would make a Turian female that much more appealing...on second thought...did I just say that out loud?

The whole "hurr durr you just can't tell them apart!" excuse is ridiculous. So every krogan, turian, salarian, etc just so HAPPENS to act and sound like a male, even if they are really female? Give me a break, BioWare. If that was the case, then you should have been smart enough to give some of them female voices at the very least.

When did anybody give that excuse?

Casey Hudson did during the Best Buy Q&A.

If the director is willing to give such a poor excuse then that doesn't give me much hope.

I gave a screenshot with male and female Quarians, so it's not like they aren't including them.  But, that is definitely true for species like the Volus, Eldar, Hanar, and Krogan.  They just don't seem like species with major physical (form and figure) differences between the sexes.  I also can't really imagine how the Salarians and Turians would have major differences between the sexes, as they are reptilian based in design/look (IRL reptiles don't have much differences).

/shrug, I didn't miss out with that sort of thing in the first either way

My only real hope/expectation for new gender/race combinations in the sequel are female Krogan. Everything else? I'm doubting we'll see.

...Outside of Male Quarian that is.

I'd like to see Volus and Quarians outside of their suits.

---

For the Quarians - that would be rare. Their suits are cultural - even in the Migrant fleet. They only take them off amongst family/lovers.

But I'd still like to know what the two races really look like.

Female Krogan - Supposedly ultra-rare, if a codex entry and a planet description are right in my memory.

Female Turians - Ain't the Turians some sort of patriarchal oligarchy, with only the men rising to power and the women stuck at home?

Female Volus - Best excuse I can think of is patriarchal society. But I could see a female Volus.

Female Salarians - Women are similarly rare, staying home to lay eggs and whatnot.

Female Elcor - I could, too, see a female Elcor.

Female Hanar - I don't see an excuse here either.

Male Quarians - They're there.

"Male-acting" Asari - Don't they flaunt their sexuality? Sure, they may have no gender, but their accepted cultural standard is similar to that of the females of humanity.

Crocodiles don't talk (at least in voices recognisable to humans).

Your attitudes towards females is sickening.  The first thing that pops into your head when discussing members of the opposite sex is pole dancing?

I wonder why they use translators in ME. :P

Well that would give it all the more reason why there should be a difference between male/female voices - an exceptionally useful feature to program in.

They could show a female Salarian in ME2. As you said, they rarely leave their planets, but there, "rarely". Anderson encounters one in ME:Revelation.

A female Salarian could take the counselor's place. Maybe the male salarian counselor WAS the rarity. Plus, he looked old in ME1. He could have passed away in two years. It would be a good oportunity, and I don't think they would have to make so different body models. At least, not as much as turians or krogan would need. Maybe a more femenine body, voice, and shape of the head.

Someone said Krogan female were rare, shouldn't that be fertile females? Who use that fertility to secure positions of power over Male Krogan.

As far as I remember, Turians are completely egalitarian. I remember them specifically stating that men and women both serve equally in the military.

No. Only fertile female krogans are rare. Otherwise the diversity is normal. But they're reptiles - could you really tell them apart?

[quuote]Female Turians - Ain't the Turians some sort of patriarchal oligarchy, with only the men rising to power and the women stuck at home?
No. All the members of the society take a part in their military doctrine regardless of gender. But again, could you tell them apart?
Female Volus - Best excuse I can think of is patriarchal society. But I could see a female Volus.
Could you...You get the point by now.
Female Hanar - I don't see an excuse here either.
They're almost certainly hermaphroditic.

And really people, why do you assume that female aliens should even sound like female humans ? Can you tell a female dog apart from male by their bark?

See, I don't accept that argument because these are self-aware creatures. There will be fashion. There will be body decorations. There may be different mannerisms, different voices. Human females can be told apart in the ME universe easily, even if they wouldn't have boobs, by hair styles and voice and dress. Saying 'we can't tell them apart' is a weak justification, not a good reason.

EDIT: I understand that in ME, there wasn't enough disc space to add female aliens. And I think Bioware is doing great work and I'll buy ME2 and ME3 regardless. And I do accept that for some aliens, we just won't be able to tell the difference. But to apply that reasoning to ALL of them, even to ones newly added, just... seems a lazy way to cover up sexism to me.

Also, I know we don't know yet if there will be females in ME2. I have high hopes, seeing how there are male Quarians.

Aaah, precision of language. Perhaps I should have said "I could conceptualize" or "I could visualize", the opposite gender's members of each species?

I'm slightly terrified of what a female volus might look like.

Volus are like the dwarves, the females are only myths.

it's like Gimli's speech in the LOTR trilogy about female dwarves... they look and sound so much like the men they are easily confused...

I'd like to see Female Turians, because male and female Turians are said to be equal (stated above here and either in one of the books or the ingame codex, not sure but I've read it somewhere).

I do wonder if Female turian voices sound just as cool as the male voices do

Volus are easy to have an excuse, as we see many who don`t speak, so they could easily be female.

Hanar I expect to have little sexual dimorphism, but the key here is voices.

Turians are the biggesy mystery. No real reason not to have female turians.

Krogan females exist, they're just not fertile. No real reason we shouldn`t see them on Omega.

We barely had batarains in the first game, and a Female batarian was in the first book, so we might see what they look like in ME2.

Female Salarians are explained to be rare.

Because we're getting into the more "lawless" part of the galaxy, we should see more xamples.

I`d be shocked if we don`t see ANY krogan females on tuchanka.
