Matching the code segments avoid the red codes, is this strictly a hand-eye coordination thing?  'Cuz if it is, I really suck at it.  Dues in larghe part because I have three eyes......:D

Is there a easier way to get these?  I have passed up quite a few of them.  Not sure if I am missing out on some goodies.....

Thanks -

You will miss out on some research upgrades.

There is a hack module you can buy at Harrot's store on Omega that will double your time.

Just so you are clear on how this works: on the top of the screen there is a picture of the multi-colored pattern you are looking for. Find that pattern in the three columns that are scrolling by and hit activate when you have that block highlighted. The pattern at the top of the screen will then show the next pattern you need to find. Use the dpad to maneuver around the screen rather than the joysticks.

Save the game before trying and reload if you miss.

Thankfully they got rid of this minigame in ME3.

Excellent advice, even though I always forget. Doesn't matter too much since I almost never fail, but once in a blue moon I end up wishing I had done a save.

Hmm, I reckon I should go back to Omega at the first opportunity to get this hack module? 'Cuz right now I am on Horizon, and I think that I need to do the code thingy to get a transmitter or something functioning.

I think it's just memory. See what you need to match and wait for the code to come up. I hate hacking in ME2. It really slows the gameplay down.

Did I mention how much I despise the Secure Terminal Hack (Target Code Segment).....:o  It drives me completely bonkers.....  I have only gotten it once, during the Horizon mission.  Unfortunately I had to restart the mission, so here I go again.  It will take me who knows how long before I get it right.  I generally avoid it when I come upon it.  And YES, it does slow the game play down to a crawl.

I reckon that there is no way to continue on with the Horizon mission until the computer has been hacked?  I probably wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't make you start over again if you get one of the segments wrong.

You are not going to believe this.  I was trying it again so that I could report the amount of time I was given, because I purchased the hack module to allow more time (as I was advised to do from members of this forum) when blamo!!!! I got all of the segments correct.  You've got to be kiddin' me!!!! Here is the secret to beating this thing.  Just don't give a frak.......:P

You'll love the fact that ME3 has neither hacking minigames nor Hammerhead :D

Well, armed with that bit of info, I'll  the beetle buggy thing one more time, and I might be bouncing over to ME3 even though I haven't done much in ME2 yet.

I don't mind games that are challenging, but ridiculously difficult....  I have thrown everything at the "beetle" except the kitchen sink and we've barely put a dent in it.  All of the surrounding buildings are sealed off, so no duck and hiding in them.  You can't sit and hide while your squad takes shots at it because it seeks you out and dumps on you.

ME3, here I come.

Oh yeah, and the thing that I particularly do not care for is the fact that you MUST do this mission.

Hold on, are you still referring to the Horizon mission?

If so, you might want to take a look at the Wiki page (spoiler alert).

Have you actually tried searching for a guide to help you with this part? Or search YouTube for videos? That would help you. Here is one that may help you. It has commentary, but it is on fast forward since it is a long fight.

Here is another one. This one may actually be better. Regular speed, great commentary.

And if you ever get really stuck, just drop down the difficulty if you feel you have to. No one will know.

My guess? You are playing a soldier and you don't necessarily have the right squad. The Pratorean is a tough fight. Expect to die a lot the first few times. But you'll get the hang of it.

My recommendations:

Mordin specced out for maximum incineration. Wait until the barrier is down then hit the armor with incinerate. Also research his special omni-tool upgrade.

Miranda specced out for Unstable Warp (9 second cool down). Warp will work well on both the barrier and the armor.

Maybe Grunt with squad incendiary ammo. Everyone gets incendiary ammo which is good for armor and his concusive shot can be used against the barrier.

Heavy Weapon: missile launcher because you can shoot it anywhere and the missiles will seek out the target. Wait until the barrier is down before using heavy weapon ammo. The armor does not replenish, the barrier does, so don't waste heavy weapon ammo on the barrier.

If you are a soldier use a rapid fire weapon (assault rifle) against the barrier, use the sniper rifle against the armor.

If you are a vanguard you're SOL. Shoot it with what ever you have.

Sentinel/Adept: use warp over and over and over

Engineer: incinerate on its armor, guns to get its barrier down.

Infiltrator: very easy, as soon as you cloak it will stop targeting you. while cloaked order your squad mates to use their powers, line up a shot and take it. It will instantly turn around and start firing at you again, so start running.

Use tall cover to shoot around the side. Don't use the A key (xbox) to hold to cover because you need to stay mobile. Just stand behind the cover, popping out for second to order powers to be used. Again, you can shoot the missile launcher even when you can't see it, the missiles will home in. Fire them into the air and they will still hit.

Drop the difficulty.

Curse Bioware.

Horizon Preatorian is only hard if you don't know what to do. It can't fire at you over the high objects like the top part of the truck to left of the entrance. Just put your squad mates in position outside it's explosion radius after that you can just run around the truck until it dies. The Cain is nice against the boredom.

Thanks all for the tips, you have given me hope. I will try everyone's tips. Caradoc, you asked if I were referring to the Horizon mission. The answer is yes. As for the spec'ed out part and my squad. I am playing as an Infiltrator, level 9. Maxed out on Squad Disruptor Ammo. I have Kasumi as my right-hand girl. She is maxed out on Deadly Shadow Strike. I have Grunt protecting my rear. He is maxed out on Krogan Warlord.

Should I restart the mission and change a few things? Or should I start the WHOLE thing all over.

I gotta tell you, BioWare had restored a little bit of my faith in EA, until ME2 came along with all of it's changes. We all know the saying, "if it ain't broke. don't fix it!"

Well, while I am waiting to hear back from all of you good people, I think that I'll head on over to the links and play a round.

I can't believe you don't believe ME1 is not broke. ME2 is vastly superior. (IMO, of course) And you just have to stick it out. The ending is just so fantastic you'll want to play this game again real soon just to play out that final scene.

I used the Cain on it once and it only took down about half/third of its armor. I was sorely disapointed. I was hoping for a one shot kill. (dificulty = veteran)

Again what squadmates or weapons you have makes no difference, other then weapons and powers good against barriers and armor makes it go faster. The key to killing the praetorian is keeping high cover betwen you. Once you get the hang of it its trivial.

Yeah it doesn't take away more then a thirld or so but it really cuts down on the running around, since it will skip at least one full barrier.

Hey RedCaesar, this is just between you and me.... but I dropped the Gameplay down to Casual - "this difficulty is intended for players who are not experienced with shooters and RPGS or who are more interested in story than combat.  Increases the power of Shephard and squad members.  Enemies are weaker, have slower reaction times, and use powers less often."

Yeah, right! Don't believe the hype.  After talking to the mechanic and heading over to the towers, me and my team has died more frequent than before. We appear to be less effective. Does the change take place immediately?

I want to thank Yezdigerd for his advice. I just had the easiest time on Horizon ever by waiting for my team mates to kill the thing. I did pop out once and a while to order some powers be used (and to speed things up) but for the most part we played cat and mouse running around the trucks. Nyah, nyah, you can't shoot me, you big beetle-thingy you!
