Both are referred to as infantry commanders, but which one would outrank the other?
Does a Karasten only command a squad while a Sten commands a platoon? Which would be able to command the other? Or are they technically the same rank and role, but in different areas and with different numbers of karashok (qunari infantry) in their command?

From what we've seen, Sten commands Karastens in DA:O.
A Karasten is a foot soldier, infantry in the Antaam. A sten is like a lieutenant, a leader of ground troops. How many layers there are between a Sten and an Arishok is not known, but it may be prudent to assume there is more than a couple.

I think that "kara" means group or squad, like a karataam is a group of soldiers that escort Qunari mages. A Karasten is probably equivalent to a sergeant, a regular Sten is probably the superior officer.
