I wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope it's not out of place. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify a little doubt I had. We know that the Amell Warden was one of the children of Revka Amell, all of which were proven to have magical power. I assume they were sent to different circles across Thedas as it is usual. However, we don't know who was the father of the Amell mage, which would not be a big deal if not for the fact that he is called Amell after his/her mother, and we know that in Kirkwall like everywhere else in Thedas children carry ther father's family name. The only way this is possible is if the Warden's parents weren't married, as far as I can think of.
My question is, is this ever explained, anywhere?

Not that I know of either.
Best guess is that Bioware just screwed up by having Hawke related to the warden through a FEMALE cousin of Leandra's.

Well, nobility marries cousins all the time.
Just a question: do we really KNOW the children carry their fathers name in all cases? Could be that that's a matter of choice, as Thedas is quite progressive in gender issues.

I think that when two nobles marry, the family name follows the higher ranking noble family. Since the Amells where pretty high up on the chain, the name would've followed Revka and not her husband. But, no, it's never explained.
