Well, whenever I try to promote the weapon on the forum I just get bashed like crazy for it and everyone seem to have hundreds of reason as to why the weapon is not good to use as a solid standalone weapon. One of the reasons for doing this is that it is a weapon that new players can easily obtain and level up. Thus they will not need to get all those UR weapons before they can beast on Gold and Platinum. Reegar is better of course, but most new players would not be able to survive when being so close to the enemies all the time.

You can consider me a convert thanks to this thread. Always found it clunky because of the charge-up but the suggestion to mix and max uncharged shots was the key. Just used it for an asari vanguard RGG solo (my first successful one with a 'normal' kit). My time was <mumblemumblemumble> (ie embarassing), but I now officially like the GPS.
Now I just have to learn to like the GI

Happy for you buddy. A lot of new players that I invite to play with me have almost nothing in their manifests, but they usually have the GPS at some level and I tell them to use it and they soon take it with them and play Gold and Platinum with confidence.

It is best on the GI obviously, but as you noticed it works really well for most classes. As I said earlier I just tried it on my Vorcha Hunter for the first time today and did a 25 minute Gold solo with it (not Glacier and no armored compartments). That was my fastest Gold solo with the Vorcha Hunter that I've done.

OT: The GPS is one of my favourite shotguns. I can't believe it gets stick on here. Yes, there are better shotguns, but the GPS is very flexible in that it can be used at long range as well, without having to use a smart choke.

Not to mention that on the GI a charged GPS does more damage than the Claymore. It can one shot every trooper enemy on Gold and Platinum without needing to score headshots. It ignores armor damage reduction, it has a slight homing ability, it delivers reliable stagger and it ignores shield gate. It has decent weight as well so it can be used by the majority of classes.

Don't know what the time for Hendrix's old speedrun record is, but 15:21 is his latest speedrun record, AFAIK.

As far as I'm concerned, Talon still performs vastly better on GI, taking about the same or shorter TTK with none of the charging/leading nonsense.

I don't like weapons I have to charge. Also the GPS is a bit glitchy off host. I don't solo very much.

GPS (a.k.a noob tube - "Something that requires no skill or effort to use but very effective" ) has always been a beast (I remember in my noob days (way back) being carried by lvl 1 chars using nothing but the GPS) ..

While not the best -it is a pretty damn solid gun - but this is ancient knowledge - don't act like you're rediscovering fire .

I doubt it. My personal GI record is 14:29 with the Talon, to get such a time with the GPS would probably require close to perfect spawns and objectives. As Alquinn said, TTK with Talon is better, against mooks and especially against Bosses, plus you can penetrate cover.

If I tried really hard, I might be able to beat my 10 WS record (which is 15:21) since it's relatively easy to survive with the GI GPS, but that would also require really good spawns...

You don't have  to charge it but agree that substantial  lag can render the gun useless

I know that it is a terrific weapon on its own. I just don't use it since I pug very often. It is still good off host but I have gotten used to claymore far too much to switch to GPS.

The biggest argument I've heard about it was its inability to kill bosses fast, so I did two solos today, one on Gold and one on Platinum to see exactly how bad it was against bosses.

First was a Gold solo on Giant Geth. I had Disruptor IV, Cyclonic III, Shotgun Amp II and Armored Compartments. It ended up being a 23 minute gold solo on Giant which is one of the fastest times on console. With full equipment and with good objectives (I got bad objectives) it could easily be a sub 20 Gold solo on Giant which is not as easy as getting a fast time on Glacier. Then I decided to see how it would be against Cerberus on Platinum. I only wanted to do the first waves thus I didn't record the match and I used low level equipment like Cyclonic I, Shotgun Amp I, Disruptor IV and a Shotgun gear instead of Armored Compartments. It went so well that I actually continued the game and got a full extraction. Got trolled hard on objectives with hack on wave 3, devices on wave 6 and targets on wave 10. I had to use 3 rockets on objectives 3 and 6 and I had to use one rocket to get out of a cluster f*ck, so on wave 10 targets I only had 2 rockets left and still managed to kill every Atlas. I recorded the score after the game and at the same time showed my build and what equipment I used, it can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch

That Platinum solo took me 38 minutes and with full equipment, good objectives and a decent use of rockets then 25 minutes would be quite easy to obtain.

In both solos my only weapon was the GPS. So I'm really confused as to how this weapon is viewed amongst BSN members as a good trooper weapon but nothing else. It can't score headshots and it can't penetrate cover, but the fast times you can get in a solo clearly states that it is one of the best weapons in this game. 

 So honestly guys, why don't you try to solo with this weapon a bit more if you want to get good times? I'm just an average player these days (I really am) because the last 10 months I've played this game about 100 hours which is about 10 hours per month or 2,5 hours per week which makes it a bit harder for me to do a solo these days. I was a lot better in the past when I was playing regularly and I know that some of you guys still play this game on a regular basis and have way more skill than I, so it would be very interesting to see what more skillful players can do with this weapon in a solo.

So many contradictions and assumptions. The difference between a 38 minute solo and a 25 minute solo is a lot more than you give it credit. The gun is not that good against all defenses like an AP IV Talon and can't 2x or 3x hit targets. It's an easy solo weapon for people with only decent manifests, and I do have a sub 20 gold solo with it.

the point still stands, he didn't beat alquinn's talon GI record. Doesn't matter whether he wasn't "used to the weapon" (as if the GPS has a high learning curve in the first place) or got crap spawns.

You are talking so much crap my friend. If it wouldn't have been for me disconnecting every game I try to play today I would have already done a sub 25 Platinum solo with it. My best run before disconnect today was slightly above 19 minutes at the start of wave 9, and I still had 3 rockets left. My equipment was Power Amplifier IV (since I don't have any Cyclonic), Disruptor Rounds IV, Shotgun Rail Amp I (have no II or III) and Armored Compartments.

Map was Giant and enemy was Cerberus. I used the GI and the only weapon that I had was the GPS. All I would have needed was to get two good spawns on wave 9 and a good objective on wave 10 with a rocket to clean up afterwards and it would have been less than 25 minutes.

So no, the difference between a 38 minute and a 25 minute Platinum solo is exactly as how I credit it. If you would try it yourself then you would know that it is exactly as I say.

I will post a sub 25 Platinum solo with the GI GPS as soon as the f*cking servers start working.
