So... someone from Art had their wife leave them for a brunette male?
Didn't Kaidan have dark hair? And Jacob. And Carth. And Aaron Gend? I'm just sayin'... I think there's some holes in this theory big enough to drive a bus through.

Sky... Sagacious Zu...
It is a poor theory, certainly.
However, BioWare does not have a male LI that has indigo hair.
There is a complete bias against indigo in BioWare. Sure, there were Asari, but they were referred to as blue! Blue! Clearly they had more color but only blue children were mentioned, and all the slang was blue, there was a purposeful avoidance of mentioning indigo! Better seen, but not talked about, mentioned, or referred to, no appreciation for that color? I thought ME would have been different as indigo could be seen, but it is just in the background, just an extra, still not "privileged" enough to be mentioned, eh? No one cares about poor indigo... people just jump straight to purple or violet, and completely ignore indigo... sigh... It is just shocking that all the other colors get so much attention and are mentioned in games, but indigo has so little mention, and it is one of the big 7! Just... ugh... indigo deserves as much love and attention as any of the other colors... and there are those indigoists who try to just categorize it as a shade of blue! What has the world come to, where a color is so disrespected and then just brushed under the rug by saying, "Oh, silly indigo, you are confused, you are blue." It's just sad.
Nok.
On Topic: Predicting LIs like this is like talking about the "BioWare formula." The formula was hilarious, but not really fair.
However, I would like to see a warrior poet personality and a good intentioned politician/aristocrat/noble that has a very proper/posh attitude at some point.

Also, if they pull a Bethany again (making the most attractive female companion not an LI) I might scream.

There is some kind of a tale/fable/story that a wife of a Bioware writer left him for some brunette guy and that's why they will never make a brunnette male LI...
...I wonder if it's just a rumour
And also silly.
If true.
And after the BioWare writer remarried, that wife left him for a blonde woman.
This is a rumor I have heard and totally am not making up on the spot.

2. The responsible duty-bound warrior who hasn't had time for love until you.
3. The naive romantic.
4. The 'project' who is interesting as a romantic subplot because you want to change him/her.
All of them have a tragic, bleak and/or depressing backstory of some description.

People sometimes say that flaws make characters interesting. Well that's half true and half crap. Conflicts make characters interesting, and conflicts can arise from internal flaws or external challenges.
Anyway, the point is, it's important for characters to have conflicts that they and they alone face. So problems ariseing from their backstory is a very effective way of doing that.

The tragic bleak backstory stuff was in DA2.

DA:O had it as well, though it felt more pronounced in DA2.

Cassandra being a LI scares me. What would happen if I cheat on her? Would she do a Lorena Bobbitt on me as I sleep?
She would treat you as if you were a friggin' map if you did that.
Or possibly a book.
Maker no! Thats to much intimidation right there.

Male: Cullen and Varric
Female: Cassandra and I have no clue
In that scenario, I would guess the characters will be playersexual or one straight and one homosexual for each gender.
Given the extra year of development and the return of playable races, I would not be completely surprised if they somewhat expanded the roster of potential LIs. If they did expand the roster, I think there is also a greater chance that there may be some race or sexuality limitations on romancing certain characters. This is what I hope happened. BG2 and ME style.

Hmmm... Oghren wasn't an LI in Origins, yet dwarves were a playable race... Hm, yes... yes... HIS statement was bold.Mr Fixit wrote...

To be honest. if even two LIs are from the previous games (like it was in DA2) I will be strongly disappointed.
And no, Varrik 95% won't be LI, since apparently even Bianca isn't dead yet
With dwarves one of the playable races, you're still certain Varric won't be romanceable? A bold statement.

I hope they give us 5 or 6 LIs like they did in DA2. I ended up romancing everyone except Sebastian in 2.

Umm...why would you be wholeheartedly committed to a video chick? What's the fun in that?
I always try to get as many girls as the game let's me.

And if there's a Garrus like character (Varric is the closest) I'd romance him in a heart beat. No matter how tall I am!
I never play a male character, so the female/gay romance options don't concern me at all
