Originally, I was going to point out that there are no hairstyles unique to your customized protag. The hairstyles are carbon copies of styles seen on other NPC's. But, it's not just hair, especially now that we're getting qunari as a race. Hair, horns, tattoos, jewelry - all the defining *little* things. I want a selection that isn't used on companions and NPC's. It's a bit annoying to make a warden who looks like a sibling/copycat to either leliana or Alistair.
Does anyone else agree?
And for the record this is a request from the non-modding community... Please don't just throw a toolset at PC players and expect everyone else to settle for monotony.
Looking Different From General Public.

I don't know. If they haven't got all that many hairstyles or whatever - and really it never seems like there's enough - then it seems like a waste to have a whole bunch of them not appear in the game because they're being reserved for a potential PC.
I think companions will be made using their own assets and thus shouldn't have the same as the PC. IIRC the only exception to that in DA2 was Merrill, and that was presumably because she was re-using her hairstyle from Origins. Maybe Anders too, but I have the feeling his hair was a bit different.
I suppose they could have a system whereby if an asset was picked by the PC, any NPCs who used that would be changed to different one. That's what they did with portraits in BG. That way they could use the full range for NPCs while letting the PC be a special snowflake.

I don't see any real value in having completely unique hairstyles for the PC. Even when I install modded hairstyles (or anything else), I don't want to deviate too much from what everyone else in the world has for fear of creating incongruity.

Yes to hair. You could have the same base style, but add a little bit to make it stand out. It's just a small irk I have of having the PC look like the random NPCs, whereas companions are able to look distinct. A unique hairstyle can go a long way to having the protagonist stand out aesthetically.
For tattoos, I'd really love more control over them. The past tattoos just looked eh to me.. so it'd be awesome if we could set, resize, rotate, or combine certain presets in a way that we like.

I'm actually fine that the PC looks like anybody else. I like that my PC isn't always spechul from birth and/or appearance. I prefer the heros journey where the hero earns the title through action and experience.

I'm gonna be honest. Bioware's hairstyle are *the* worst. It doesn't matter if we're talking Mass Effect or Dragon Age, the best I could ever hope for was meh. So why would I care if every other NPC has the same crappy do as my character. I would rather continue to hope for more than one style that doesn't make me feel like busting out in giggles every time I see my PC.
