I want to have a go at modifying the look of the water plane placeable from lilly pond to sewage.

Which tutorial wuld be best for this can anyone point me to one thay have found useful?

Thanks,

It's probably just going to be changing the texture if you don't need the lilly pond. The texture is probably a .dds file somewhere.

However you could also do this easily with a flat billboard type vfx and use a custom texture.

I was going to change the .dds.

Is it as simple as modifying the dds and putting the new texture in the campaign folder? I hoped it would be.

I am happy to go the VFX route as well. I have made some custom ones of those (using your tutorial I think)

I was going to get some movement using the floating placeables.

Of course, in context, the words movement and floating take a whole new meaning.

Since the placeable is basically a 2d square, I'd imagine the texture file for it is pretty basic, instead of the texture for something like an npc where it has to wrap around a 3d object. As for vfx, I've altered a portal vfx before to be flat to the ground, and changed the texture. Doing the custom vfx was less than an hour's work, including finding and getting the base vfx out to change.

I did it with the dds in the end but I'm not happy with the result because of the repeat pattern.

I may try the vfx method.

I've used the vfx succefully, replacing the "song portal" visual with other visuals, including a sheep (to test) and plain color gradient. There is a pack of paintings on the vault that are actually vfx.
