Hey all,

For the first time ever I decided to side with the Templars, throughout the entire game I passionately defended mages and stood by them,; however being repeatedly.. betrayed, Grace was the last straw when she killed Thrask and tried to kill me, not to mention my sister..

To top it off Anders destroys the Chantry.

First I say I'll side with the mages- then am 'convinced' by Meredith to join the Templars, which for some reason had Merill staying with me even though I had no friendship. (I didn't coddle her.)

The only one not convinced is Sebastian.. Because I want to spare Anders. I tell Anders to join me, naturally he refuses.. so I tell him I'll let him go, he leaves.. Sebastian leaves for Starkhaven and says he'll bring an army to fight me, I embrace the idea out of the game, thinking I'll have my Kirkwall against his Starkhaven in DA3 hopefully.

Later on in the gallows, Anders appears.. The man I romanced and just couldn't kill before, because I loved him. He comes back just to kill me.. I can't believe it. Is there any way to side with the Temps and not have Anders die? I was hoping to have him return in DA3 :(

As I recall, you need full rivalry and his QB quest to do this.

Well that sucks. .-.

That makes absoluely no sense though?!

How would rivalry cause him not to come attack you, and when you're INLOVE and full friendship-- I don't even ..

Because rivalry is more about disagreeing with companions and sometimes results in them changing their mind. If you get full rivarly he comes to regret blowing up the Chantry and blames Justice for it rather than proudly accept responsibility himself. As such, his remorse causes him to doubt his cause and you can get him to help you help the templars.

Even that is temporary though. He says that he can't live past the events in Kirkwall so presumably plans to kill himself afterward.

Blargh.. I just think that having a romance or not has so little effect in this game when it comes down to it.. Seriously, who can realisticly strike down a loved one that easily?

But Justice the Backseat Passenger doesn't love you.

Backseat =/= Frontseat. I think Anders should be stronger than that /: I really was excited to hear about Starkhaven vs Kirkwall etc etc.. But if the Champion just disapears what's the point? They also vilify me at the end but I always did good things.

Hrm.. I guess that's true.

As abit of 'cheating' do you guys think I should just kill Anders right away? It feels /SO/ wrong as a lover to do that though! Or should I just side with the mages? /: My Hawke geniunely believes for reasons I stated above that putting order in the city is the best thing though. And funny enough by being with the Templars aids the Mages, as I can spare a few.

The Anders thing I ask due to it would save me Sebastian.. But I'unno, think I'll stick with what my character did :)

You pretty much said it yourself: what would your Hawke do? It is not necessarily the same as what you - the player - would do.

..Heh, I guess ;P Well thanks for all the answers, I suppose.

I asked though due to my feeling abit.. Effed over by Anders. Just sucks that the one playthrough I'll be romancing him is the one where he's dead.

I always felt like Anders was just using me the entire time, even based on a total friendly romance (versus the rivalmance) so I didn't have a problem killing him.

.-; But you loved him didn't you? You have to get into your character!

Which makes it even more painful to realize that the man you loved had just been using you to further his bloodthirsty agenda.

Yes, even though my character loved him, she still felt that he was being dodgey and using her. He was quite melancholy when he finally moved in with her, too. Never wanted to snuggle, just talk about mage propaganda. It was disheartening by the end of the game. And then when he did what he did... Well, she had no choice but to put him out of his misery. And hers.

You can actually get Anders to join you on the Templar side and battle mages with you.

But that breaks his heart and he kills himself after the battle ends :(

Really?  How do you do that? Full rivalry or full friendship?

Full Rivalry make sure to do all his quests do his last questioning beliefs and make sure to not just give up on him in that convo.

Then ask him to fight with you during The last straw and he should join.

But yeah he's probably gonna off himself later (or Hawke/Cullen will do it).

Edit: Also I'm pretty sure you can still get the Anders comes back to kill you even with full rivalry. Just tell him to leave.

Oh. So you don't actually see him killing himself, it's just assumed that he killed himself? Darn. I wanted to see a cutscene of him hanging from a rope or something like that.

Least you can stab him yourself even if it's with extremely odd facial expressions.

If you make him fight on the Templars side, he kisses you when you are at the Gallows. But he makes it clear it is a "goodbye cruel world" kiss and he will kill himself later

I could never get myself to break his heart that much.
