I just thought of something that tickled me a bit...

For all the QQing about how we could have beat the Reapers in a straight-up fight if only BioWare knew as much as [I, the CV ending supporter and expert Reaper strategist]... what of ME2? In retrospect, the main mission was an utter fool's errand.

Collectors had three ships. Vega destroyed one in ME:PL. The third was destroyed during the Reaper War in ME3. And the second was destroyed by the Normandy -- one frigate, regardless whether its guns were upgraded -- in ME2.

Without a ship, there are no more abductions. It's over. You win. Was it not silly then to rely on a laughably small force jumping into unknown territory relying on a device w/ color-coded explosions... when conventional victory was a provable solution?

What the hell are you talking about? How does blowing up the collector ships prove conventional victory is very easy?

I think you got the wrong end of the stick there David: Hyr was was referencing the calls by some that the Reapers in ME3 should have been defeat-able by conventional means and then pointing out that victory against the Collector threat in ME2 could have been far more easily achieved by destroying the three Collector ships and thus destroying their entire flotilla, rather than launching a 'suicide mission' through the Omega relay.

@ Hyr: was it ever established prior to the Omega-run how many Collector ships there actually were? Also, there was no guarantee that the Normandy would successfully intercept al the Collector ships, nor would their overall plan have been discovered.

I was considering that, but then he said "relying on a device w/ color-coded explosions." What else could that mean but the Crucible?

Saving /Destroying the Collector base are color coded explosions as well.

▲Only because they made it mean almost nothing in ME3. It shouldn't have been.

Hacket says no conventional victory, that's why we get space magic.

I'm going to just ahead and say that every single conventional idea I've seen on this forum aside from my own in over 18 months has been stupid.

Well, except one. Once, long ago, I saw someone suggest assets be divided into ground assets, fleet strength, and Crucible progress. I liked that idea, although there would obviously be no Crucible progress with no Crucible.

Aside from that gem, they all royally suck. All of them. They suck.

Why even stay here if you hate people to this extent?

▲▲▲▲ Any ending using the type of story structure used in the genophage saga would have made a fantastic ending. there was no reason for the dud we got. I have seen lots of good non-stupid suggestions since last March that would have been far better than what we got.

Oh man two Marches... maybe the as*holes achieved exactly what they wanted in the first place?

I don't even know what ideas are proposed here. Don't understand the original post exactly.

That said, I've only been here a few months and I can say I've seen good ideas from everyone. Even you, funnily enough. I don't think you even make an effort to see anyone else as anything but.. "stupid/moronic/utterly/completely nonsensical"...

Not that I remember, but how hard can that be?

Especially if the answer was "one" all along... you'd think someone would have picked up on that.

I mean... one capable ship, and that threat is history.

The ideas nearly all generally boil down to a magic tactic or magic technology. Get in close because then the allied fleets will have the advantage and kill the Reapers. It's so obvious! Stay far away because then the allied fleets will have the advantage and kill the Reapers. It's so obvious! Build a bajillion Klendagon guns. Blow up Reapers with biotics. Get some control technology from Cerberus. EMPs. Nukes. Super viruses. The list goes on. All lack the very basic functions of a meaningful and satisfying victory, and that doesn't even touch plausibility.

It's much more of an amalgam of smaller ideas and subtle changes. ME 2's main plot focused on removing the Reaper's weapon of indoctrination. Changes throughout ME 1 and ME 2 focused on making the galaxy plausibly stronger without reducing the Reapers as threats or introducing any revolutionary technology or abilities. An entire new arc in ME 3 focused on the Terminus Systems. Alterations to battles to include full-sized Reapers being taken out. Different dialogue with the Alliance and Council to rid fans of the ridiculous notion of building a bajillion dreadnoughts. Altered level design, particularly throughout ME 2, to highlight military preparation and construction.

By all means, make one yourself. If literally every idea you've seen in the past 18 months is stupid, I'm sure your have no trouble comic up with an idea for conventional victory that was free of these "stupid" limitations.

But then, anything that doesn't get your own personal approval is stupid, because you know more than the rest of us, David.

So you want to rewrite ME2 as well? makes sense, I could agree with that
