Hey folks...

Was doing up a version of the Acme tabards from the Vault, especially b/c the way they're set up, they use a common texture, which creates a little distortion here and there, but notably saves on PW loading and such... but when I deleted material from the main texture file to transparent, when I previewed in the armor set, absolutely no difference showed up.  It wasn't file-handling: I could paint red on, all that jazz, no problem -- but the old "I'll just delete from the texture so the mesh doesn't show in a given spot" trick wasn't working - it was as if I hadn't made any changes at all (and this after restarting the toolset, clearing my cache, everything I could think of).

Any idea as to what I might have been doing wrong?

you can't just simply delete parts of a texture to make the polys transparent. to achieve what you want you have to use an alpha map which controls the transparency of the texture. slot a blank white map into the alpha channel of the diffuse texture and paint out the parts you don't need with black.
