Just wanted to know what your thoughts were on these handhelds seeing as I'm considering buying one myself. Which, in your opinion, has the better games, specs, etc.? I'm curious about Shin Megami Tensei IV, for instance, although that's currently only for 3DS.

I'd appreciate your input.

Cheers!:)

The best game for the 3DS, and up there for best games of 2013.
But IMO the 3DS has the best sleection of games of the 3, so It's what I'd go for

3DS. I loved my original PSP, but I can't think of too many games that interest me on the Vita. Wii U kinda has the same problem (till Smash Bros that is). Whereas the 3DS has plenty now.

And if you haven't heard of Fire Emblem, Thunderfox has got the right idea. Interestingly, the Wii U is actually getting a Shin Megami Tensei crossover with Fire Emblem too.

What kind of restrictions do each handheld impose when it comes to buying games digitally? Can I buy them from anywhere so long as I have a credit card?

I have a 3DS (two actually, one of which happens to be a Fire Emblem 3DS - muahahahaha) and a Vita. I would recommend both actually - I loved Person 4 Golden on the Vita and have a bunch of other stuff. As for picks on the 3DS, games like Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei IV are quite fun.

Persona 4 golden alone is enough to buy a vita but the 3DS has a ton of games.

3DS currently has a better library of games but the Vita's is good too and getting better. I own both and play them regularly.

3DS.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is awesome, challenging, brutal at times and definitely worth the price.

3DS is the only one of the things you mentioned with Games on them.

Odan,

You can download games digitally on both 3DS and PS Vita. It really matters what you'd prefer.

3DS has Fire Emblem Awakening, which is indeed a massively fun strategy game game. It's better in my head than on the screen (if you play it, let me know- I think you'd like my retake), but it's a game with a strong character cast and interaction element. It would be weak as a Bioware RPG, but if you like social interactions between NPCs and companions you'd probably like it.

If you want a game with killer character development, plot, and a more RPG-ish experience, complete with role playing, emotional connection, and Earn Your Ending, I recommend PSVita. Persona 4: the Golden is an amazing game, and the list of other high-quality JRPGs you can getis good as well

This is one of my main concerns. So there are no regional restrictions you're aware of?

You mean digital downloads are region-locked?

You can not get games that are not available in your country both physically or digitally to work on your 3DS. This is really annoying for me when a game is out in america but not available until a few months later in europe. (rune factory 4 the next ace attorny game)

It sucks on deployment even more, especially if you want DLC.

I would consider getting SMTIV, but I'm not sure I want a hard copy shipped over.

 Yes i don't know if it is just the games i have played but DLC can't be downloaded through the store. You need to open the game and download it there.

There's also the minor problem of not being able to connect to the new network in my area.

Funny story- I bought one of the Fire Emblem DLC packs before I left, but at the time only one of them was released. But since I can't connect, I can't trigger the authorization to allow me to play the other two maps. So I open it up and see a 'this map hasn't been released yet' message, months after the release AND purchase.

Ah, tis life.

If you don't care for the original PSPs lineup, 3DS. I'd recommend waiting to see the line-up for the Wii-U.

SMT and Fire Emblem <3
