Here's a sniper build that is fast paced: flamerless geth trooper. Notice speed and vision for hunter mode. With a javelin and phasic rounds it's basically one shot one kill nonstop for all but bosses.
Since weight penalty is meaningless on this build, I also pack a claymore for close quarters.
May I suggest you put the Claymore in the closet (for once, d'uh!), learn to quickscope the javelin, and spec into flamer? It will get much, much better.
I'd like to learn the quickscoping skill on the jav. I honestly don't use the claymore much with this build, unless it's on glacier or during a hack. I have no trouble getting 75+ kills on gold. The build works exceedingly well as a mook killer, if you have other players holding the enemy.
I can get into trouble with this build with dragoons and phantoms or with too many enemies in my face (especially if I'm carrying a PUG). Lack of AOE. How would you use flamer on a primarily sniper build?
Like this. It's just a solo attempt I did back some months ago, but I think it showcases the concept nicely. I was playing against Collectors so I went warp rounds, but against any other enemy you want to go phasics. Actually, phasics might be better even against collectors, I need to check that. Anyway.
Basically, you can still OHK any infantry with a headshot, that doesn't change (possessed enemies are a nasty exception, sadly). What changes is that you have access to a super-uber flamer that melts everything in front of you. Even more, the flamer can be used, as you can see in the vid, to hide the reload of the javelin, essentially allowing you to dish out a constant, non-stop stream of stupidly high dps.
This has several advantages:
- AoE crowd control. Any mook down to health will get on fire and panic, thus stop firing at you.
- AoE clean up duty: in case you missed a headshot or two, and hit the body, or if you're against possessed mooks, hiding the reload into the flamer lets you kill the mooks without wasting other time and javelin shots. It even works with Phantoms/Dragoons, if you miss the head.
- increases your DPS by a huge lot against bosses. If you set the guy up like I do, you'll actually have the exact same TTK of a Javelin GI against every enemy in the game. Which is saying something.
This, however, comes at a price, and it's that you need to get good at quickscoping if you want to get the best of him. It's true that the Javelin gives you a lot of ranged firepower, so you're pretty deadly even at long range, but you only really shine and do your best when in flamer range. And being in flamer range with a sniper usually means that you need to quickscope most of the shots.
I would advise you to try it out and see how you like it. Don't get yourself down if you miss a lot though, it's definitely normal at first. Keep practicing, and eventually quickscoping will become a second nature
