I think this thread is perfect to mention that people should play GI without Hunter Mode.

Or Drell without Cluster Grenades.

or any 0/0/0/0/0 kit.

a 0/0/0/0/0 is so much better than a Drel without Clusters.

...unless it's a 0/0/0/0/0 Drell without Clusters!

At least take 3 points in it. If nothing it's good for escape and if your teammate is about to get stomped.

The last time I tried ES I thought it was awful... Very slow and with that animation you can cast it safely only from cover. As for as damage is concerned... it does not come close to the massacre that overload+disruptor ammo+tech burst can do. Energy drain+disruptor ammo+tech burst is much better too...

I am a 6/3/6/6/5 kind of guy with a Geth Scanner and some sniper rifle.

I rarely use the sword strike, and will do it primarily to just leap from point A to point B in a flash. For the most part I just cloak --> snipe, and when needed cloak --> electric slash --> snipe

Meh.  There are better ways to build ammo detonation characters that don't require you to either spam powers at a wall or do pirouettes in the open for max effectiveness.  SS is what makes the Shadow unique and great.  A lot of people think SS is only useful for teleporting around the map taking out Marauders one by one.  It's not.  You can take down a ton of armor very quickly with a SS followed by Heavy Melee, and you can use it to position yourself for taking out other enemies as well.  Take SS away from the Shadow, and she's just another infiltrator.

Personally not using SS frequently is like a vanguard not using charge - sure you can do it but kind of feels a waste of the character.

I put 4 ranks in it.

Didn't you read the OP?

I think he was responding to the title, which seems to suggest skipping SS entirely.

I actually know quite a few people who put 3 or 4 ranks into SS, especially if they're using a sniper build, or an ES-focused one. I personally prefer to use it for Shield Recovery, so I'll almost always have 6 ranks in it, but I've recently debated going with an ES-Focus, and seeing how that works for me.

Yeah maybe change the title as it doesn't reflect the build in your OP, which is absolutely fine.

Eh? I always spec out of ES entirely.

Okay, so I'm a suicidal melee ninja Shadow player.

I soloed U/U/P with her today using a no Shadow Strike build and a Venom. Got Hazard White/Cerberus and I found myself just using the Venom and not doing Electric Slash almost at all. With bonus power, you don't even get the damage bonus to the second ES, and even if it did, it deals rather pitiful damage. You could kill an unsuspecting Phantom turtling around the corner with 3 of them, but then again you could just run up to her and kill her with 2 charged Venom shots.

I re-specced back into my SS build and I'm never looking back. The only good thing about ES is that if you get close and personal, you can deal good damage with tech combos thanks to the startup animation. Charge the Venom, cloak, release, in-your-face ES, backlfip, shoot again. Other than that though? Meh.

Maybe because you aren't actually asking if you should skip it entirely?

I use a similar build but take sheild dam ev and geth scanner with Talon melee and power amp mods.
On Gold  SS will OHK phantoms and Turrets . Dragoons will die quickly with dot . That just leaves Atlas which the Talon takes care of.  Good solo build

I feel like it's a myth perpetuated by people who laugh at misleading BSN.

A lot of times it seems like trolling, but when used tastefully it is not too bad of a thing to have around. The problem is that many gamers have an extreme lack of tastefulness in the first place.

>OP suggests a completely viable idea

>Puts logical arguments forward

>Everyone goes apeshlt at him for suggesting a horrible idea even though SS is very meh

Wait did I miss a step?

IMO the shadow isn't a very good kit overall and SS has a very bad habit of getting you killed and often I find myself hiding in cover waiting for shields to regen or I'm franticly searching for a shielded target that isn't an atlas to SS so I can get my shields back. Overall I prefer the ES/Sniper hybrid build but super ninja melee build is more fun even if less effective, which applies to 90% of melee kits in this game because biower doesn't realise that you need high HP to melee effectively
