Steam did it again! Very excited about this. Been a Steam user for a while now and happy to share some new news to the BSN Community

I have no idea how this could work it could be absolutely amazing or it could be a hideous failure this is a big risk.

Bumped my own thread before seeing yours. Sorry! :pinched:

But yeah, this could get interesting.

Did what again? Touchpad control is terrible.

To clarify: I've tried mobile games with virtual touch pads to control a jet fighter or whatever and it's very clunky. My impression thus is that touchpad control is a horrendous idea. Hopefully actual touchpads with physical borders will be easier. I really don't see what advantage it brings compared to current input schemes, though, aside from imprecision and accidentally pressing virtual touchpad buttons instead of the virtual joystick.

I can say the symmetrical design and ability to swap handedness is cool.

Legacy mode for that controller looks and sounds like Direct Input, though. Grody.

That looks incredibly, incredibly stupid.

I'm not even joking. Wow.

That said, we'll see how it works out. I'm an M&K person who uses an Xbox 360 controller for third-person "adventure" games. I don't see this improving my "experience" at all. We'll see.

I like the look. Still don't know how this is supposed to replace M+K.

Why should I trade M/K for a controller?

First they got your DVD collection, now they want to get your Windows, Mouse and Keyboard. This is all a dirty long term conspiracy to destroy the PC master race!

Could be interesting for fighting games. Otherwise, no idea, unless it´s meant to play from the couch and handles better than sticks - sensitivity in those is often a nightmare.

It's not supposed to replace M+K. It's supposed to be an advancement on gamepads, not mice.

It's for people who aren't playing at a desk.

On second thought, I've been using a thumb-trackball mouse for ages. I wonder if a thumb-trackpad would feel familiar. I've only ever used laptop trackpads and, like I said, the virtual trackpad crap that comes with some mobile games that has its own problems.

And I do think the design is neat-ish. I think I'd need to try it for myself to see how it feels before passing judgment.

Announcing Half Life 3 would have been better imo.

Well you can, since the pads also function as speakers!

Tops controller is tops.

What the hell??

It looks incredibly intuitive and well designed to me, and something that has the precision of a touch pad in place of the stupid cross pad? How can you say that?

Twist that knife some more Valve. Somewhere Gaben drinks deep from a cup filled with the tears and shattered hopes and dreams of Half Life fans.

The 360 controller works for everything I would want to use a controller for. I'll reserve judgement for until I actually try one, but this has been quite an extremely dissapointing series of announcements.
