That's useful to Know Tchos I will keep that in mind. For now I have solved the problem and the tint map works.

I moved the files from the campaign folder to a .hak and they work just fine. they should work okay in the campaogn folder but for now I am going to let that ride and just be happy they work.

Now I know how to do this and that I can get it working I am going to get a little more creative and have a blended lower part of the bottle using the blue.

If I know I can use TGA then I can work entirely in gimp which will save a step in the process.

Now I can have lots of different potion bottles.

Thanks for your help guys,

PJ

which version of gimp do you use? i tested the plugin with vers. 2.8.6
what error did occur when you opened a dds file - was there even the option to open dds files?

I downloaded the latest on the net and got a free virus and PuP in the package :) Odd though as I got 2.6.8, so the download site I used must have been a bad one. It was off the official site though so I son't know how that happened.

I got an unrecognised file type error but it was not previewing the file anyways so i was expecting not to get it open. No option to save in that format either.

if you want to try it again you could use that link. it's a german hoster but free of every malware. english as a language option is included. do you use 32 or 64bit software?

On the subject of tinting.

Some of the models can be tinted but do not say so. For me the most useful has been Chair 03 which is pretty much the most used chair in the stock set. the other day I found it has a good tint map on it.

This morning I am going to do tint maps for the bunk bed and blue double bed but Bed04 the green four poster, is also graced with a tint map.

Anyone come across any others?

Also, if the DDS format is giving you a lot of trouble, you don't actually need to make them DDS files. It will accept TGA (Targa) files. I use DDS files because they're smaller.

I find that a compressed TGA can sometimes be smaller than a DDS. Especially if the image has large areas of single colours that suit the run-length encoding compression algorithm. Glow maps that are mostly black really compress up a treat. Plus RLE compression is lossless, whereas the DDS algorithms introduce compression artefacts.

Ah yes, that's true too. It always depends on the content of the image. Photographic style images are usually the ones better compressed with DDS's algorithms. And even when it results in a larger file, sometimes I use TGA anyway if the DDS is too degraded by the compression.

memory footprints aside dds textures have the advantage of the already created and encapsulated mipmapping levels. this reduces rendering time and shimmering texture issues. afaik that's not possible with tgas and i doubt that electron creates them on the fly, which would eat up ressources too.

At long last ... armoir 03 is not blue anymore! This has bugged me for a long time ....

Why oh why did they make it only one colour and why blue?

I did not paint a new tint map for this rather I used Tchos Red.dds method. This is fine and very convenient for objects without complex tint maps. I have discovered that doing the tint maps is not so easy and needs practice, my first try at the bed01 model was something of a disaster. Image IPB

The carpet is citymrug8 which I only found out was tintable recently (it dose not say {TINT} on the model)

Thank you -Semper-

I'm getting the hang of this now. I tried to over complicate it the first time.

I have worked out how to do it all in paint.net which is great because that handle .dds files

What next? Anything I want really, it's quite exciting.

As I get my confidence I up and get a few models under my belt I may do a hack of tintable stock items. Would that be useful?

Here's bed02 as it first apears in the toolset, tinted white (as per stock) and with custom tints.

Then I shall do something over the next few weeks or so.

I will also post a tutorial on the sticky once I am completely familiar with the process.

I started out by overiding the stock models in the hak but this is not satisfactory as the stock model then comes out black and always needs tinting. So I am going to reserve 100 or so rows on the wiki and create a placeables 2da line for each new item. When I post this it will be with a hak, the lose mdb and UTP and the 2da. You can do this these as you wish then.

I am starting with the models thatit has always bugged me that they could not be tinted. There are about ten of them, then i will have a go at retinting some of the houses.

Some I will do with the simple red tint as Tchos reccomended. For things like stools this is fine. For the items below I used all three screens.

I'm quite looking forward to getting some cc out there for sharing.

And a chair, this is one of three I am going to have a go at but not tonight. I ahve had two visits to the fridge and the hand is no longer steady.

that would be a waste of resources. the only issue is that their vanilla blueprint is tinted black because of the previously missing tint map. creating new blueprints with a pure white tint overriding the old ones should do the trick.

btw the chair in your last post is a bit messy. the small part between the two front legs is a wood carving and should not be included in the same channel as the cushion.

Looks like you've got this tinting thing figured out. And you fixed armoire 3!

That's a good point I had not thought that through. It is certainly a lot quicker, I will think on this  becuase I can create the new utp as you suggest but the stock blueprint will always be messy That would be fine with me but I would like others to have this. With the way I am doing it the stock bluprint is unchenged. I will give this some more thought, its only a few dozen 2da lines, we are not short of them.

Bad choice of demonstration colouring on my part. I had been to the fridge twice after all Image IPB

There's something wrong with my blueprints?

They work in outside areas as you have all seen but the get a string ref error indoors. I have a thought that this might be to do with the hook points? I don't know why I have no basis for that.

Any thoughts on what this might be?

PJ

[edit] Checking partcount to 0 in the 2da fixed that. Does anyone know whay that might have happened from a technical perspective?

dunno what that partcount column is for but every single line is a zero, so i wouldn't worry too much about it. for me the lowgore column is a mystery too :D

Ah well, at least the issue is solved.

Did some work on the Alchemy equipment this morning.

For the group of vials I think I make the base colour white by changing the main .dds as well, then the tints will be brighter.

I took the glow map off too.

I had problems with the armoir today. I got it working okay by over riding the existing mdb but when i tried to create a new model it lost its attachment to the other parts. the result is a doorless armoir which is something new which i will keep. What this means is no separate utp for the armoir. Hey ho.

Image IPB

I've been playing with other bits today and decided to have a crack at the snake wall sets. I think that if I take the glow map off and tint them we have a whole new set of finely finished walls. on opening the materials sheets I found they have a tint map but it is not selected with the model. So I opened the tint map and it was blank.

Then i opened the skin .dds to see what that looks like and i can see why, someone tasked with tinting it saw this and said

"Naaaaah! let's leave it untinted shall we."
