Noticed it appear among the top sellers on Steam so why not discuss about this remake, eh?

I'm kinda worried they'll streamline it "for a wider audience" like it's so popular these days and it will be crap like, say, Hitman Absoliution was. I fear there will be more railroading and that Focus thing shouldn't even be there. Then again, Tomb Raider and Absoliution had it so why stop now, eh?

Also it's upsetting to know this new Garrett will not be voiced by Stephen Russell. 

Seriously, how do you feel about it (if you're a fan of thief anyway)? Excited? Disappointed? Not interested at all? Comment below!

Square-Enix are basically a Japanese EA-tier company nowadays along with Capcom, so it will of course be watered down, mass market material. Don't expect anything great.

Deus Ex Human Revolution still turned out to be great.

Since it's developed by the same Eidos Montreal, I have high hopes for this game.

We had a thread a while back which died basically after we figured out that the "remake" was going to be a poorly made Assassin's Creed knockoff.

It has a strong Dishonored vibe to it, probably due to the Victorian setting. I'm intrigued by the slow-mo mechanic to plan your strikes. Still, this release is months away so I don't know why Steam is encouraging pre-orders so soon.

Only superficially. The gameplay stuff I'm hearing is worlds apart, like the fact that you can only jump or use a rope arrow at pre-defined spots. Dishonored is all about player freedom to approach a level. It's a unique world, whereas this reboot is stripping so much out of the Thief universe that it's not recognizable, and neither is Garrett. Dishonored was very polished; you should read some honest reviews of the gameplay previews. Critics were suspecting that this game doesn't even work.  Example here.

That would be particularly bad. I read that article you linked me to and it looks like the game still needed some refinement, to say the least. Hopefully, they'll get it done by their February 2014 release date. I wonder if they'll embargo reviews?

I'm watching a stream. This game looks like it is going to be a blunder. Okay, this is just terrible.

I'd seen the first mission in a preview - it looks farily entertaining, but nothing of particular note. Ultimately, it came off as Dishonored without "magic". I liked the bits they did with the multiple combination safe, but that was about it. I loved the Thief franchise, but rebooting it doesn't seem like it yielded something worthwhile.

Want to jump? Not unless you're near a ledge that the developers decided they would allow you to jump from. Want to use that rope arrow? Only in the specific locations designed for a rope arrow.

This game is linear and restrictive. There's going to be a lot of complaints come release day when fans realize the garbage they've just purchased.

I thought it always looked sketchy to disastrous.

Reading the developer justifying tiny levels with little visibility and restricted movement, for a Thief game, is surreal.

Looks like the most fun to be had out of this game is reading the TTLG forums ripping it to pieces. Early signs are that it's worse than anyone expected.  Not just a bad Thief game, a bad game period.
