Exactly. And Dark Souls II, on the horizon, laughs at that notion. The publisher wants to dumb down a difficult stealth game to make it have mainstream appeal, when all it's going to do is turn away fans of the series while not garnerishing that mainstream appeal.

The game's name: Thief
What if Dark Souls II came out and said "we want you to play a challenging rpg, but we don't want to force you to play a challenging rpg".

Okay, this is just terrible.
Trainwreck. Some of the stuff was just jaw-dropping.

Looks like the most fun to be had out of this game is reading the TTLG forums ripping it to pieces. Early signs are that it's worse than anyone expected. Not just a bad Thief game, a bad game period.
Yeah, they were watching the same guy. That ending. What were they thinking.

I'd highly reccomend it for any stealth fans, I and II in particular.I have never played the previous games, so I'll check it out at some point.
Yeah. The Original from Looking Glass Studios had a huge focus on player exploration, especially Thief II: The Metal Age.This game is linear and restrictive. There's going to be a lot of complaints come release day when fans realize the garbage they've just purchased.
They almost did, briefly considering the possibility of variable difficulties. Suffice it to say, the idea didn't pass. As far as Thief, it's a bit too early to tell for now. At least from what I've seen, it's not quite the same calibur as the original three. What if Dark Souls II came out and said "we want you to play a challenging rpg, but we don't want to force you to play a challenging rpg".

And that's why I won't be playing Dark Souls or its sequel. I mean, come on, if the only thing your game has going for it is difficulty then it can't possibly be a good game.DominusVita wrote...

Would the combat still be enjoyable if it were less difficult or does it rely on difficulty alone?bussinrounds wrote...

It's not really difficult, unless you go in thinking you can button mash your way thru. You just have to block/evade, wait for your openings...OdanUrr wrote...

But yea, the combat itself is really good. It feels weighty (as opposed to the 'floatyness' of a game like Skyrim, say) The weapons have different animations/styles and you actually have to fight differently with them, which is awesome, as it's just not just, this one does more damage but feels functionally the exact same.

I usually don't like mashing my way through but, from what I've read, the difficult part is basically knowing where everyone is and how they'll react and the playing again and again until you get the gist of it. In any case the point is moot because it's not available for my region on Steam.bussinrounds wrote...

Anyway, back to Thief, I've been watching a few gameplay videos and while stealth looks interesting I'm still thinking Dishonored was more enjoyable. Plus, there seem to be issues with the audio and the VAs? I wish they lifted the embargo so I could read some reviews!

"Oh Erin. I don't want the power. I want you." Are you kidding me? Old Garrett would not give this idiot the time of day. He'd steal his trinkets and be off to pay the rent. The voice acting is horrible, and he looks like some bishy JRPG ninja. Sadly you can't escape these things, either, because he won't shut up and so much of the main story (a whole 5 hours worth, whoo) is cutscenes. For this the developers told us they couldn't let you be able to move everywhere through their tiny levels or use rope arrows where you wanted- because it would shortcut what they wanted to do "narratively." What a joke.

I haven't watched the entire game if that's what you're saying. May I presume you have? The little I did watch made me doubt the voice acting but I thought I would at least have the freedom to approach each objective differently.Addai67 wrote...
