Looking forward to this. Got it by chance in the AMD Never Settle Forever deal, and now I really want this. Looks pretty neat, what little I've seen.

So when you get detected it turns into a skewered modern Splinter Cell mixed with Assassins Creed - "We want you to play as a Thief, but you don't have to play as a Thief". Lol -Ya, no thx. Think I'll stick with Thief 2. A stealth game being a stealth game.

Yeah. The last three Thief games are some of my favourite games of all time, and in the stealth genre there's no comparison. This is looking...less than what I was hoping for, to put it mildly.

I'll probably pick it up one day regardless.

Looks pretty bad really. Chris pretty much pointed out the big issues. I see another MGS4/Splinter Cell fiasco happening and I'm staying away.

I was keeping an eye on this, and it looks like there is a lot of negativity on the game. I'm going to wait and see for reviews I trust, and what other gamers say. I'm only going to get it if it is stellar.

Garrett doesn't even have the same voice actor anymore.

Did they get a famous actor to voice him too?

Exactly. And Dark Souls II, on the horizon, laughs at that notion. The publisher wants to dumb down a difficult stealth game to make it have mainstream appeal, when all it's going to do is turn away fans of the series while not garnerishing that mainstream appeal.

Don't think so. IMBD tells me he's Ezio's dad.

Yeah, you know it's bad when the director of the game says "We want you to play as a thief, but we don't want to force you to play as a thief."

The game's name: Thief

What if Dark Souls II came out and said "we want you to play a challenging rpg, but we don't want to force you to play a challenging rpg".

I have never played the previous games, so I'll check it out at some point. But the whole "Its a stealth game, but you don't have to be stealthy" thing is getting a bit silly with these games. I guess its because they want to target a larger audience.

This game looks like it is going to be a blunder.

Okay, this is just terrible.

How bad is it?

Trainwreck. Some of the stuff was just jaw-dropping.

Addai67 wrote...

Looks like the most fun to be had out of this game is reading the TTLG forums ripping it to pieces. Early signs are that it's worse than anyone expected.  Not just a bad Thief game, a bad game period.

Yeah, they were watching the same guy. That ending. What were they thinking.

I'd highly reccomend it for any stealth fans, I and II in particular.

This game is linear and restrictive. There's going to be a lot of complaints come release day when fans realize the garbage they've just purchased.

Yeah. The Original from Looking Glass Studios had a huge focus on player exploration, especially Thief II: The Metal Age.

What if Dark Souls II came out and said "we want you to play a challenging rpg, but we don't want to force you to play a challenging rpg".

They almost did, briefly considering the possibility of variable difficulties. Suffice it to say, the idea didn't pass. As far as Thief, it's a bit too early to tell for now. At least from what I've seen, it's not quite the same calibur as the original three.

And that's why I won't be playing Dark Souls or its sequel. I mean, come on, if the only thing your game has going for it is difficulty then it can't possibly be a good game.

Herp.  The games have like the best combat around, for action rpgs.

Would the combat still be enjoyable if it were less difficult or does it rely on difficulty alone?

It's not really difficult, unless you go in thinking you can button mash your way thru.  You just have to block/evade, wait for your openings...

But yea, the combat itself is really good.  It feels weighty (as opposed to the 'floatyness' of a game like Skyrim, say) The weapons have different animations/styles and you actually have to fight differently with them, which is awesome, as it's just not just, this one does more damage but feels functionally the exact same.

I usually don't like mashing my way through but, from what I've read, the difficult part is basically knowing where everyone is and how they'll react and the playing again and again until you get the gist of it. In any case the point is moot because it's not available for my region on Steam.

Anyway, back to Thief, I've been watching a few gameplay videos and while stealth looks interesting I'm still thinking Dishonored was more enjoyable. Plus, there seem to be issues with the audio and the VAs? I wish they lifted the embargo so I could read some reviews!

This looks to be closer to Dishonored than the previous Thief games. I got the new Thief for free (AMD promotion) so I might as well give it a chance. It looks OK so far to me.

Kinda funny how the same ppl crying about the casualization/dumbing down of a stealth game/genre are eating up those modern/AAA rpgs.

Did you watch the footage of the final scene?  Spoilers, obviously.

"Oh Erin. I don't want the power. I want you."  Are you kidding me? Old Garrett would not give this idiot the time of day. He'd steal his trinkets and be off to pay the rent. The voice acting is horrible, and he looks like some bishy JRPG ninja. Sadly you can't escape these things, either, because he won't shut up and so much of the main story (a whole 5 hours worth, whoo) is cutscenes. For this the developers told us they couldn't let you be able to move everywhere through their tiny levels or use rope arrows where you wanted- because it would shortcut what they wanted to do "narratively." What a joke.

I haven't watched the entire game if that's what you're saying. May I presume you have? The little I did watch made me doubt the voice acting but I thought I would at least have the freedom to approach each objective differently.
