I am playing on a pc. Are the squad commands (hold, rally, etc) designed only  to direct the entire squad, or can I give individual orders to each member? example - command  Wrex to go to point A and hold position, while Kaidan goes to point B or continues to follow me? Thanks

I do not believe there is any way to order individual squad mates to a position, though I play on xbox not pc.

From what I understand from the on console (PS3) manual, you can order
- both squad members to attack an enemy
- rally your squad to your position
- order a member of the squad to move to a point or attack a selected target

so based on that I should be able to give separate orders to separate squad members. I wonder if I am doing it wrong

You can't give individual commands in ME1 (although you can in the sequels).

what about from the Tactics HUD? there are order icons above each team member? Sorry, it just seems like I'm not getting the whole command thing right. Thanks

The UI depends on your platform, but you can't command your individual squad members in ME1.

On the PC you can give commands to individual squaddies, at least to an extent. I just tried to be sure and was able to send Ash and Kaidan to different places by using the buttons in the power menu and assigning them their cover from there.

Then it is different from console versions, I tested it myself a few days ago on Nepmos with 360.

Carry on...
