If Liara was able to use her super-duper Asari powers to see the vision Shepard got from the beacon, why couldn't they have just done that with the Asari councilor?
Couldn't the Asari Councilor have 'read' Shepard's vision?

Paranoia is my best guess. The higher degrees of mind melding seem to stress the Asari enough. Getting a trained soldier and killer a bit too close to a figurehead an probably exploiting it to neutralize her and then rapidly dispose of the other two members. It's a bit farfecthed but i feel its a possible explanation.

It's not as if the councilors doubted that Shepard has visions, at least later on. But if the Asari councilor got the vision without the Cipher and knowledge of the Protheans, it's not conclusive at all. She'd likely still think it was nonsense or a manipulation by Saren.

why would they try to do that? it will undermind their attempts to coverup the reaper threat.

She'd probably be insulted by the idea. Plus the vision itself isn't anywhere close to being conclusive evidence.
