Hmm - so no Mary Kirby? Wonder what she's up to. Something secret and interesting?

I'm currently working on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Cool, thanks for the replies Ferret and Mary. As I said in my first post was more just a curiousity. I know David et al aren't the ONLY talented writers at Bioware, that being said it is nice to know there is going to be consistency on the writing staff between DAO and the expansion.

Heh, on a side note, its nice to get a straight answer. You guys at Bioware are awesome for spending as much time on the forums as you do; there have just been times where I've felt I have to write some sort of strident polemic to get a response. :)

Anyways, thanks again.

I can't express my feelings in a non-creepy way. What do I do?

Interpretive dance?  Cake sculpture?  Semaphore code?

Okay, follow my instructions carefully.

I'm curious to see how Bioware does with an MMO... I'm hoping ya'll will add much more story than other MMO's have done with theirs. Then again, with so many esteemed writers, how can you not eh? ;P

You can talk to him about her and he will tell you why she acted the way she did.

I like the way you think!  Reassurance:  David Gaider is behind the writing of DA:A.  Excellent *rubs hands in excitement* :D

you should finish the game before you read awakenings right?  Should you finish the game before you read the novelization about the rebellion with orlais?

You could if you want. In my opinon reading the books before hand isn't game breaking, and no doubt Awakenings will not rely on people reading The Calling to understand what is happening (I would think codex' would more than suffice for the story background).
BUT I have read the books and I think they are a great read and reccomend them whole heartily. The most you might get out of Awakenings is a better understanding of the events, or maybe the dev team creates a few in jokes for those who read the books, but that's it.

Technical glitches aside, I think BioWare has been doing an excellent job of making games with engaging story lines. At some points in DA:O, I have been genuinely moved emotionally. I'm looking forward to ME2 and DA:A to see if there's more of that.

I am also excited about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I think it will have a great impact on the MMO genre. It's also wonderful how much the writers & designers interact on these forums.

Some of it. Sheryl Chee and Ferret both wrote huge portions, as well.

Glad you're excited.

David Gaider... write more books?

No... then it would be a trilogy. You know how *highly* unlikely that is in fantasy fiction, right?

Besides, I am sure he is spending his time eating nachos and drinking pepsi, perhaps taking time to prod Mary and Ferret and make astounding claims about "owning" this world...

Power goes to your head, after all.

Seriously, though, I am quite excited about the prospect of DA:A.

I actually like not knowing the specifics of "who wrote what" - because alot of the writing process can be such a communal effort.

All I wanted to know is that it is the same writing "team".

If there is one thing I know as a Literary Critic (read: unemployed) it is the fact that Great Writers started as good thieves...

I might. It really depends on the publisher, and my availability.

I wish. The diet I'm on restricts me from such delicacies, I'm afraid. These days I cast longing looks at the nearest pizza as I munch on my celery sticks and drink my Diet A&W Root Beer.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I could drink regular pop anymore. It tastes sort of like malted battery acid. Image IPB

That would explain the empty tin can with the bottom corroded out of it I got in the mail.

A well known phenomenon. Sometimes people even can't smell the taste of all fast-food stuff after having a diet.

I was just kidding, by the way...

Reignites Sarcasm Mode:

You do know that fantasy Godfather's all have a tendency to age like overgrown hobbits?

I think between them, Michael Moorcock and Gary Gygax looked like they ate half the population of their worlds... not that you could ever get them in the same room...

I hope you do write more books... but don't let it get in the way of game writing... I am selfish after all!

Thank you, as well.

Serious Aside:

As a Literary Critic (read: y'know) I want to actually say that it is *very* hard contacting writers to ever get commentary, interviews or even opinion out of them on their own work...

As part of this industry, and a writer, you are part of a group that actually gives its own audience contact with the writer as a living being... including insights into some of the choices (political, moral and otherwise) that you have made in the construction of your work...

So, thank you, again - the internet is not the easiest forum with which to interact with your fanbase, oddly.

It would be nice if more people actually interacted with me as a living being, as opposed to The Writer or (more commonly) BIOWARE MAN... as if I were some personification of everthing Bioware does and personally responsible for its decisions. Image IPB

Part of being a public face on the forums, I guess.

But you're quite welcome. I enjoy coming here... usually.
