While I wouldn't mind the option to keep it casual(I find myself getting burnt out on "love of my life" stories), I didn't say that, either.

I believe that one can have a deep, personal, passionate romance without ever going through the ceremony of marriage.

That being said I wouldn't mind if this conflict comes up. I didn't mind the conflict with Alistair marrying Anora breaking it off with the warden(unless he was hardened). Say, if Cassandra is a love interest and she gets drawn into the Nevarran succession crisis that's about to become a thing, I wouldn't mind if that leads to conflict with people who romanced her with characters that aren't suitable love interests for a member of the royal family.

I just don't particularly see it as a good reason to stop the romance from happening at all. A logical reason, maybe. But people rarely handle matters of the heart(or their loins) logically.

Option to keep it casual or option to divorce. :wizard:

Alistair leaving female warden when marrying Anora was actually great and tragic twist. I wish Bioware more deeply explored that particular romance. It touches issues like interests of country are more important than individual interests. And it's heartbreaking for both warden and Alistair.

Unless you make Anora queen then it's a non issue.

That happened on my first playthrough. Except that I had pushed un-hardened Alistair to become the King, and not marry Anora. My problem was that I was a Dalish Elf rogue, and people wouldn't understand the King being involved with a Dalish Elf, even if she was a Warden that saved Fereldan from the Blight. I still wish I could have told him off for breaking my heart.

Yeah and not hardened Alistair would not even make a warden his mistress. But you can write a good fanfic based on this.

I just don't see the point in making unhardened Alistair king unless you want him to be a puppet.

Make Alistar hardened.
Recruit Loghain.
Make Alistair king.
Make Loghain killself.
Live life happily ever after, DA ][ can't tell the difference anyway.

That's how I would do my Alistair romance playthrough if Female Cousland.

Doesn't he execute Loghain if you don't make him marry Anora?

I romanced Alistair twice.

First time was all lovey dovey up until the landsmeet where I chose to spare Loghain and supported Anora's suggestion to have Alistair executed; the look on his face was hilarious.

Second time I hardened him, made him king with my Cousland as his queen, killed Loghain...and Alistair preformed the ultimate sacrifice. Anora somehow got out of prison and my plan of being sole ruler didn't quite work out as I had intended.

No I mean he orders Loghain's execution if you spare him but make Alistair king.

She was a single left heir to the Ferelden throne and being in prison doesn't stop her from having a legitimate claim.

No.

If he's hardened and you get him to marry Anora, then he lets Loghain live and it's pretty much the end of your friendship/relationship.

Hrm. My eyes are going.

Yea, if you don't marry him off to Anora he orders Loghain to be executed.

One of the reasons I never do that. Well, excepting the one time, but I will never import that game.

Er, Merrill never displayed open attraction to either sex, really.

Yes she does. Even during Act I she says some wierd things during dialogue with Aveline.

That's only about Hawke specifically.

She mentions that she's sorry the qunari are gone in act 3 because they're "easy on the eyes".

Hate to break it to you sweetie, but anyone can apreciate someone with a rock hard body with out wanting to jump in bed with them

I'm not saying she was. Just that she found them physically attractive. That doesn't mean she would have acted on that attraction.

You're saying she was physically attracted.  I'm saying that you do not have to be physically attracted to someone to apreciate a pretty face or a well cared for figure. Any woman will tell you as much. Straight or gay. Void, my very very straight brother does it all the time.

Ever catch yourself saying, "I'm not gay/straight but he/she is really good looking"? It applies here. It's very very easy to think someone is "easy on the eyes" and have no desire to do things to them in a sexual mannor.

B)

I agree. I am gay (and a guy), and I'll readily admit I think some girls are cute, pretty or "easy on the eyes" in some other way. But I've never been attracted to a girl.

Disagree with this "every woman" part. Don't know if it's just me, but I've never found male bodies or faces "easy on the eye", maybe except men that look truly feminine. Not because I find something wrong in men, but they always appeared to me as sort of "different beings" from women so I can't admire their look even on aesthetic level. I understand which one would be considered attractive and which one wouldn't, but even with all those Somerhalders and Skarsgards my reaction when looking at them is just 'meh'.

I also don't think that i confuse it with simple lack of attraction, since there are many women I find good looking, but I'm not attracted to them, and vice versa.

Like I said, fair enough.

That being said, I maintain the context in which she said it, and the tone of voice in which se said it implies that she did find them attractive and is sorry that she doesn't have them around as eye-candy anymore.

I have no problem with your interpretation, since I always simply assumed the LIs were all pan or at least open to either gender in some way.
It's simply really easy for me to accept because I'm the same way. I'm attracted to girls 99% of the time, but god damn me if one of them sexy muscular beasts couldn't make me fall to my knees. (Wait, that just sounded way more dirty than I intended...)

That's why discussions about sexuality and how it should be set often confuse me. Labels in general are weird to me. Always have been. I love who I love and I lust after who I lust after. Why should I care what that makes me?

"Does the character like apples or oranges?"
"Don't know, whatever they're in the mood for, I guess?"
"But they gotta like one of those!"
"I...both?"
"But they never gave any indication to eating both! That one time in Act 2, Quest #445, they said, and I quote, "That apple looks very red and shiny". That must make them an apple lover!"
"So? Doesn't mean they don't eat oranges, too."
"Then why have we never seen them eating an orange?"
"Because Kirkwall lacks tasty-looking oranges?"
"No no, that doesn't make sense. There are way more people who like apples than people who like oranges. It is only logical for that character to only like apples as well."
"It's just one character. They don't represent all of Thedas."
"But it doesn't make sense for every character to always like whatever fruit the main character has!"
"It's not every character. It's just four out of the entire population of Thedas."
"Why can't they just decide which fruit they like? Apples or oranges? Or both? it breaks my immersion when a character does not explicitely state what they like!"
"Maybe they just don't give a fu** which fruit they eat as long as it's tasty?"
"Pfft, figures. Y'all dirty fruit-lovers just want to see pixels eating your fruit, even though it destroys the pixels' character."
"...Huh?"

And that's what every discussion here sounds like to me.
(Mind you, that's merely my personal opinion. I'm sure you lot see it plenty different.)

Keep in mind that any one of them would far prefer to simply bisect you with a huge sword.

I personally have never once heard that line from Merrill and wonder if it might have been patched out of the game or something. If it exists, well, I disagree with the fiend's interpretation of context.
