The reapers losing at all was only due to them being written as utterly incompetent.

If such a weakness allows the galaxy to come up with some weapon to defeat them in a matter of months, absolutely. Which is necessary if this weakness is a game changer.

Indeed. Damn protagonist heroism afflicting the enemy with the idiot ball.

I like that we have people simultaneously claiming that Reapers are stupid for losing and that the galaxy is stupid for not studying them and coming up with a magic weapon.

Do you just not notice the contradiction, or what?

Is it wise to find your enemy's weakness?

Hell no, you have to win through heroic deeds, like doing a side quest when Earth is becoming a human slurpee as we speak.

There is no magic weakness. And there is no magic tactic. And it would be incredibly poor writing if there was.

Is this really up for debate?

Where did I say magic was involved or even RELEVANT to weaknesses?

I walk into a Liara thread and notice that it's a discussion about Reapers...

Yep, David has struck again.

If you think you have a proposal for me for a weapon or tactic the galaxy could come up with by studying the Reapers that makes sense, by all means, let me hear it.

He never said anything about magic, but you just did.

Really, are all are the people on this thread really this blind to the laughably obvious fact of how little this differs from the Crucible?

We have a magic, unexplained superweapon being found in the archives. And people spend every moment shrieking their little lungs out 'bad writing!' Plot hole!.' And then all of you try to tell me with a serious face that the galaxy 'studies the Reapers' and comes up with a magic, unexplained superweapon is good storytelling?

There is literally no difference. A magic weapon that we got because we searched the archives. A magic weapon that we got because 'we studied the Reapers.'

Nah, it's just easier for him to argue when he can generalize people, lump them together and say that they are trying to argue points that he made up so he can say they are wrong. -_-

Wait, we aren't?

Really concerned about the voices in my head now.

How long are you gonna keep up this magic weapon angle that no one brought up?

If this weapon is anything but magic, you have to prove it. Until you prove to me this weapon makes any sort of sense, it's nothing but a magic wand that makes the problem go away.

By all means, give it a shot. Throw me some proposals for what weapon or tactic studying the Reapers is going to provide that wins the war.

So then then there's no way out. The reapers are too powerful, so anything that actually defeats them is going to be some kind of asspull, because the other two games do not present any potential chinks in the reapers' armor.

No, that's not at all true either. It's not a choice between magic solution and no solution.

You could always go with a virus. That's a common machine trope, right? Maybe R&D it from the dead Rannoch Reaper. Have people do hit and runs on Reapers until it's up and running. Fun, fun, use those war assets. Not the best writing idea, but it's also not a magic solution and it's different from a super weapon. Sort of like the Cylon virus in BSG.

No, but your classic (and probably patented) use of the appeal to ridicule is. No one here is arguing for space magic except you.

As I said last night, all you're doing is creating a position and shifting it on others for the sole purpose of 'winning' an argument that no one made or espoused.

Don't be silly, Hanar. That's magic, and magic is of the devil. Besides, Shepard doesn't even own a Powerbook.

Unfortunate, but true. And it's by design.

That's why I don't have a problem with a device like the Crucible, if it were more naturally introduced and discussed across the game.

Use the virus to overload their barrier or damage their organic cores?
