...when Onetrueshot posts a thread trying to raise money for charity and the mods shut it down within a day. Mods, I am disappoint. OTS has done more for this forum than you ever will. Volus, you deserve better and so do those sick kids.

Yes . Was a little disappointing. Community coming together for a worthy cause may have not been MP related but it was worth bending the rules on this occassion.

It's turning into the kind of place where the moderators enforce the forum rules.

I don't suppose it occurred to you that the person who closed it may not have wanted to do so, did it? Have you never been in a position in which you had to choose between doing something you wanted and following a directive from your employer?

I suspect the mods would've left it open had it been related to ME in some way. Given the fact that it directly involved a competitor's product, I'm frankly surprised it was left open as long as it was.

Exactly. Mods have their duties and rules to follow. Even if it was for very good thing, it was against the rules of this forum, which puts them in kind of difficult position. I believe they left the thread run for some time before they had to close it. The volus was able to raise nice amount of money so let´s not dwelve in negative feelings.

No it doesn't. Well, no it shouldn't. It is "difficult" decision in similar sense to wether you should go over speed limit when taking someone with a bullet in his leg  to hospital. Even remotely intact moral compass can with ease point to moments where breaking of insignificantly minor rules stops mattering.  There are some positions in our society where one comes before decisions that require mind able to ignore this moral compass. Moderator of an Internet community build around video games is not such position.

Generally speaking, if a mod were to always follow rule " don't be an ässhole" these forums would remain perfectly well moderated, even if it resulted in few less locked threads.

They enforcing the rules, that's all. BSN was quite lenient for a long time. Frankly, in some of the communities I've been, stuff like that thread necro sprees would have meant permanent ban. Duplicate accounts would have meant IP ban.

Etc. pp.

It would have been best moved to off topic than locked.

Everyone seems to forget that EA only just recently did a humble bundle, so in all likelyhood it's to avoid everyone spamming the forum with their cause of the month and blatantly trying to shame everyone who doesn't jump onboard. :P

You simply can't allow one 'cause' thread no matter how noble if it is against posting rules. It opens up a pandoras box of threads that would have to be allowed.

BSN rules are way too strict. Religion, politics, culture and so on not allowed. We can only talk about entertainment. : /

To be fair, that thread was originally posted here in off-topic.

This thread, as well as the one this thread is complaining about having been locked, was originally posted in the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer section.

It was breaking the rules by being in the wrong forum. The only thing is that OneTrueShot's thread should have been moved here rather than locked if they didn't like it being in the ME3 MP section.
