I'm using Sabal's companion weapons (since taken down), so that they level up and get to keep their distinctive looks. However, all of the models have been changed, not always for the better, so while it takes micro-management problems away, the distinctive looks intention is pretty much ruined.
I like changing Anders' staff to his DAA medcine stick default, but why would anyone change Isabela's unique models to generic spiky daggers? WHY?
Problem is, though I have all the tools, I don't have the know-how, and none of the tutorials I can find seem to support changing an *.erf in this manner. I can do all of this in save-game editing already (though for model swaps, I tend to change IDs rather than ModelVariation or whatever, because I don't have data for it)
When I load up an individually changed weapon, I see a ModelVariation ### but whenever I try to find what the number co-relates to all the models have names instead (like w_dao_example).
How do I change the data in this to change the weapon models? I only want to change the models:
Aveline: revert to Vanilla
Isabela: revert to vanilla x2
Merrill: change to "Allure's Crook" model (aka Darkspawn branch staff)
Sebastion: revert to vanilla
Anders: (keep change)
Fenris: [don't really care, probably revert]
I could even do this kind of thing from scratch if I could find a tutorial for THAT. I just want to make companion weapons level up, with them, with some somewhat better stats to match (something I can do in saves currently), and ONLY change the models where appropriate (like giving Merrill a branch staff or Anders the 'medicine stick'.)
Looking for Help: Changing companion's weapn models

As I thought. Forum is dead.
What's the point in segregating posts in this manner if the activity is too low to be of note? There will be plenty of people still active on the BSN who can help, but what motivation to they have to ever be in here?

Wow, relax! Maybe you should try asking at the PC modding community (I forget what it's called, but you probably know... I'm an xbox user).

What PC modding community, where? Is this a project group? Only PC here is technical help, like bugs, glitches, installing and such.
Though it is nice to see there is at least ONE person in here.

Hm...since i don't use mods like that (i'm a outfit kinda girl)
There are tutorials that teach you how to have weapons/outfit level up. And ones on how to swap weapon models. You could end up making your own person mod. By utilizing them.
When i don't know how to do things i usually take apart a similar mod and look at all the files i might need/that are modified. (if you're going the "make you're own route")
And what i think she means my "pc modding community" is a pc modding community in general. Not necessarily a DA one.
I'm confused about the purpose of this mod...since it doesn't seem to keep any "distinctive" looks. I would like to see the authors note or something. Super weird, too bad it's not available anymore.

The 'purpose' of this mod: "so that they level up and get to keep their distinctive looks". That's what I wanted. However they changed models so the looks are not kept.
HOWEVER: I still use the mod because it (1) makes their equipment more powerful and (2) give their equipment levelling. This means I don't need to check all of the pointy sticks and toothpicks I loot to see if any are more powerful than any pointy stick or toothpick any party member is using.
Only being able to equip them in the party makes that a royal PITA since you can therefore only check three at a time. WORSE STILL in end-game since you only have home! (At least Emporium lets you have companions, but only before the loading screen, there is no companion beacon there.)
