Yeah, it doesn't really look anything like the original previews.

I doubt the PC version will be heavily improved, but maybe better textures and texturing (some of the current stuff really looks like ass). I would kill for a few more light sources, but I don't know how reasonable that would be to expect (hopefully it's something that they simply had to turn off because the console hardware is so limited—if it's already there and working, just disabled, then we may be rewarded for the two months of patience).

Expecting it to ever look like the reveal footage from a year ago is almost certainly folly, however. That's clearly not a game they were able to make. And aside from textures, it still compares reasonably well to the first game.

I saw in a review that once you get to a certain point you're able to do "something" that gives you back the respawn, even bosses apparently, which is sort of like NG+ or something, since they didn't spoil it, I don't know much.

End of April needs to come quick, haha.

It's just an item you can burn that resets your spawn count for the area and buffs all the enemies to be stronger (apparently, this buff is persistent, so if you do it in NG, they'll be even stronger in NG+).

You can choose one as a starting gift, but I believe you have to defeat an area's boss before you can burn it. And I don't think it actually restores bosses (maybe it does for mini-bosses?), just the normal mobs.

Well, some additional thoughts:

I just killed my first boss in the Forest and...OH MY GOD I MISSED THAT FEELING.

Sorry, just turned off the game a few minutes ago. I forgot how amazing that high is when you finally are victorious, so I apologize if my thoughts are a tad disconnected.

I did unlock power mode for dual wielding, which didn't take quite as long as I thought it would, currently using a long sword/spear combo to great effect. One important tactic I'm keeping in mind is not to be afraid to switch back to normal stance. The special dual weapon attacks are great, but there are still some advantages to standard stances in terms of weapon skills. Also found some more Estus Flask Shards, which is helping a lot.

Also got in some quality co-op time with other players and have been enjoying the group aspects.

One question I did have was: has anyone managed to get the torch mechanics 100% figured out? I remember hearing that it's possible to light your torch at the bonfire, but so far haven't been able to figure how.

As far as I know, you cannot equip the torch directly from inventory, but you are given prompts to if you happen across a lit fire hanging on walls. At a bonfire, going up to it will tell you to press button to rest, but there should be a button saying Toggle which changes the option to light your torch.

Spoilers for getting estus shard and item to reshape your entire class.................and clamanthy ring.

Talk repeatedly to the npc who is digging and talks about maps...he gives you a key that opens the big building in Majula. He is beyond that gate that the knight says closed behind his friend. There is also a hidden room in the big room with the catapults downstairs. I'm playing offline but found it use the pharro stone

Has anyone been invaded? Since you now can be invaded while hollow, I assumed I'd get a few interlopers here and there.

I've had nothing. And I don't think it's just me, I'm a Blue Sentinel and I haven't been summoned, despite being human and wearing that ring. I know you need to be in the Way of Blue to get help from the Sentinels, but surely there are some out there?

I was never one for co-op in Dark Souls, as by the time I got around to playing the game it seemed a lot of people had moved on, I'd only ever seen one or two summon signs the whole game. Now, they're everywhere. I still don't really like using them, I'll always prefer killing a boss by myself, but I do enjoy helping others smack Old Dragonslayer in the face because he deserves it. I'm sure I'd enjoy helping folks combat invaders too, but... yeah, it ain't happenin'.

Ooh, and I finally got my pyromancy flame, what I've been waiting for since the start. I hope the guy that upgrades it relocates because I really don't want to run aaaaall the way through that area again.

Yeah I don't know why they removed the Pyromancer. I had a blast with chaos fire in Dark Souls.

The long and short of it? Doesn't quite hold a bonfire to the original, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out. The combat feels more balanced - easier in some ways, much harder in others. Some crazy environments that feel less Dark Fantasy and more varied this time around. My only major gripe is the Story sections feel less interesting/worthwhile and the worlds don't mesh as well as they did in the first. Some of the bosses feel like Redone versions of DS1 fights:
(Ruin==>O&S - Scorpioness==>Quelaag), though they're still very fun anyhow.

Angry Joe is Streaming his Playthrough. Probably Not Safe For Work, but pretty hilarious.

I haven't been invaded yet, but I did get summoned twice as a Sentinel. Once in the Tower of Flame and once in the Forest of Fallen Giants. Killed both red phantoms.

I just found one. Unfortunately, I don't have any attunement slots.

Yeah...not looking forward to the giant insect fights.

They never really bothered me in Dark Souls luckily. The crag spiders were pretty stylized. But took one look through the art book and realized I'm (probably) going to be fighting a giant scorpion at some point. Wonderful. <_<

Also Dom, it sounds like you're in way farther than I am. The worlds themselves aren't as story coherent, but how is the lore itself? Does it hold a candle to the original?

The Scorpioness is actually one of the easier fights.

It's lacking so far. The Boss Souls are virtually the only lore I've seen, and not nearly as verbose as DS1. This may change later in the game, but it's hard to tell. Collected only one of the four primal souls, so there's a lot of content left. Currently I'm fighting off:

Haha, I should have mentioned I have arachnophobia. :P

Still, at least I won't have to deal with her long, if she's as you say. I'll probably summon in a couple dudes for that fight specifically.

Early game spoilers.....first ten hours.

I'm going to save the Pursuer's Soul for forging later, I enjoyed that fight a lot. Great music and background of the ocean, pretty intense. I went to the next area and explored, got to the first boss (es)...Sentinels, almost dropped the first one but made a timing error on a block and died. Gonna take care of them tonight.

I really hope later bosses are hard...Gravelord Nito was easy in the original, and I beat the silly boss from the Catacombs without taking damage. Bed of Chaos was easy, too, just a pain running through Lost Izalith every time.

The flow of the levels seems off, disturbing immersion a little, but it is still exhilarating exploration. I was happy to have a use for homeward bone and I'm mad I have mandatory OT this weekend, ruined a Saturday of 12 hours of this game.

Going to be leveling Strength tonight.

I finished it in about 4 or 5 days after getting it early last week.

I'm not sure if I want to wait until info and secrets have been spread around and I can use it to guide me or to uncover everything myself; There's a lot of crap I didn't find, I know that for a fact (There are even some bosses I never came across once)

Really quick, does anyone know how to summon other players for help? Currently human from an effigy and am definitely connected online, but I'm not seeing any summon signs anywhere. Lame question from a Dark Souls vet I know, but there it is.

I was having issues finding summon signs earlier in the Belfry. II think it's related to the server issues. Do you need help with a boss? If I've been there, I'll put my sign down.

I haven't been seeing signs for both the boss with the damn wheel skeletons in the Huntsman's Copse and the Ruin Sentinels. There's the NPC phantom in the Bastille, but I'd prefer folks with brains. She got smashed about ten seconds in.

I put my sign down a few times and normally I'm whisked away instantly, today I never got summoned once. Must be server issues.

Is there a level limit in relation to who summons you? My brother and I were trying to coordinate and play together (I know it's very unlikely we'd find each other, but we tried anyway). He's about 20 levels ahead of me, and despite trying over and over again, his summon sign wouldn't pop up in the place he said he'd put it. Again, this could be all down to server issues, but I'm wondering if we were trying for nothing if he was too high a level.

I think it's based on the number of souls collected. Supposed to keep people who deliberately stay at low levels from invading new people.

It's so crappy that you can't morph your deprived into a sorcerer in this game. What kind of crappy design is it that a morph character can't obtain a staff until after late in the game?

Appreciate the offer, but I think I figured it out. I think I was over-leveled for the zone I was in (against the Pardoner). I wanted to take him out with that giant crossbow having helped someone else do it, but didn't realize I was too high a level. I took him down with a little mano y mano though, so no worries. :)

I'll probably skip this one, Dark Souls 1 was too difficult with it's harsh death penalties.  I'm well past my prime as a gamer and just can't hack banging my head against the wall 30 times to get to the next boss in a list.  I wanted to like DS but it became too frustrating for me.  (I am in the minority these days as most people are happy  with a good challenge in gaming these days,)

It's understandable, for many people that can get real tedious real quick. DS2 is less punishing(at least for the beginning), but it's going to have that punishing philosophy for the remainder of the game.

The toughest battle in the game thus far - it's O&S 2.0, but it's justifiably there.

I noticed some lore bits that imply Drangleic is
