I'd heard about that boss fight - Pretty sure there's the poisonbite ring that raises up the resistance by about 15%. Haven't tried it myself yet, haven't gotten up to that point. The game doesn't give you must chance for drinking this time around.I just fought a boss for about three seconds due to...

Huh, I must have missed that, says it's in the same place I am. Still, though, that's not the only problem with the poison...

There are four of them.
Didn't beat them yet but my 360 controller's block button LB is dead and I'm going to Wal Mart to get another one.
I got further and to a new area that has those annoying exploding deformed hand things from the concept art, archers over a bridge and then a cage heading down to a flooded area with some really gruesome monsters and a white light at the end of the hall.
I think this game is slightly harder then Dark Souls, which is a good thing.

Just downed the Ruin Sentinels with a bit of help. Overall, initial impressions are that I'm pretty pleased.
The level design is just as beautiful, if not better than Dark Souls. I do gotta agree with Dom's point about the cohesive world though. The levels all look great, but it doesn't leave quite the same impression as Lordran, where it felt like every area/event was somehow connected to each other. Still very happy, but it does prevent the game from making that final leap to Dark Souls' status of my favorite game of all time.
In other news, I've replaced my Wanderer set with a few pieces of Royal Armor I found while getting to the sentinels and it looks pretty sweet. Was curious if anyone managed to find a full set lying on any npcs?

I got tired of dying to the Gargoyles and made my way to Sinner's Rise, man I hate it there. That swamp area alone took me two hours, those darn exploding magic monsters suck. Lol. I got to the boss but being out of Effigies I was struggling, and have been at half health for three hours.
I left there and went to Heide's Tower of Flame and made progress, killing the nice fun Old Dragonslayer throwback in three tries. Went and leveled up, going stick to this area for now and explore.

Yeah, the gargoyles so far have been hell on Earth for me. I managed to help someone else down them.
I do have to praise the developers on making it more difficult to summon for that fight. The small area means that a lot of players accidentally place their summon signs in the Bastille, unaware they can't travel to the Belfry from there. The covenant there also means anyone trying to get off a summon while potentially being attacked could be a problem.
Edit: Also, anyone manage to find a torch vendor, of all things?

I found that the best way to get help in the belfry was to join the Bell Keepers. No one invades you if you're a member. (Un)fortunately, you'll be summoned to fight invaders constantly if you wear the ring. It was fun for a while, but staying in the same place all the time grew old.
I just fought a boss for about three seconds due to the floor being poison. My life bar is a tiny, tiny thing that can't withstand it without popping estus constantly. I'm sure I missed something somewhere to fix that. Oh well, tomorrow.
Use a torch and set fire to the windmill near the second bonfire. That gets rid of most of the poison in the boss room.

I dunno, I find 15 times is more than enough, you'll most likely have moved on from an area before it happens unless you're farming or are having a lot of trouble with a boss, And if you are having a lot of trouble with a boss, wouldn't the empty path to it be welcome? Near the start of the game when I was still getting my bearings, I was dying A LOT, and I still had all the enemies I'd killed waiting for me when I returned.
You can make enemies respawn with a bonfire ascetic, by the way.
The only place I've noticed a few enemies not reappearing is in Huntsman's Copse, because I farmed skeletons for effigies. Even some of them are still around.
I'd love for those seven soldiers in one room in the Bastille to just bugger off for a while, but no, they're still there.

I've played 15 hours since Friday (the UK release). I can certainly say that the game is harder than the first as well as more amazing in terms of combat. My only gripes would be the limited human effigies early in the game and some visual and lighting effects being worst than the effects in Dark Souls 1. The game also feels a lot more linear than the original during the first few hours as the game forces you into one direction where all other areas are locked off. However the game is brilliant overall and I'm having a lot of fun with the combat system which feels like Dark Souls fundamentally but also new and more weightier establishing a significant difference to the combat for me.
I don't see anything beating this game this year or next, not for me at least, not until Dragon's Dogma 2. Dark Souls 2 already is Game of the Year for me and I'm laughing at the fools who were expecting easier difficulty because of that "accessibility" remark. I hope these assumptive people are now getting their asses whooped by the game and going through waves of broken controllers whilst being stuck on The Lost Sinner. I mean I considered the original a challenging game, not difficult. I would consider this game difficult.

Yeah, I noticed how some enemies in fact don't respawn at all(which is both good and bad). Certain ancient knights at Heide's Tower and the shadow knights at the Huntsman's Copse don't respawn. But yeah, I forgot about the bonfire ascetic. Still kind of a nuisance when farming.

Just downed the Lost Sinner. Damn, I'm loving this game. And hating it. Depending on the play session. ![]()
But just getting ready to take apart the Shaded Wood, which looks interesting.
Agreed on the respawning enemies. I always feel guilty making runs to the boss without the extra mobs around.

I'm headed for The Lost Sinner after work to take him out...full health and three effigies, I'm now maybe 6 levels higher, too.
This game is amazing, absolutely my game of this year and probably next year. I hope Dark Souls III gets made

Certain sections are practically built for farming - I almost intentionally was dying at the Rat Authority boss to nab some Pharos Lockstones. Too bad they usually did more damage than good XD The Iron Keep has a lot of Large Titanite Shards off of the Hammer Brothers. The only place I've noticed a few enemies not reappearing is in Huntsman's Copse, because I farmed skeletons for effigies. Even some of them are still around.
It's a neat fight, very dark and intimate. You really gotta be on your toes with her.Just downed the Lost Sinner. Damn, I'm loving this game. And hating it. Depending on the play session.
Some of the boss fights and dungeons are very easy, and others end up very difficult...though you could argue that applies to DS1 as well. I may just be desensitized to it after beating the first, I dunno.I would consider this game difficult.
I'm not gonna lie, I'd be interested in seeing another one. XD Hopefully they'll learn a couple lessons from this one, and make it all the more entertaining. This game is amazing, absolutely my game of this year and probably next year. I hope Dark Souls III gets made

I do have to say, I'm not a fan of the whole Soul Memory thing. I get the reasoning behind it, but I think it would be better to just have it factor into invasions, so you don't get the SL1 run guys trolling new players.
Soul Memory only hampers cooperative play, You can't be jolly if you can't cooperate.
My brother and I tried for a while to play together. We're in the level range, we're both Sunbros, we even used the Name-Engraved Ring with the same god. I don't have nearly as many souls as him, though. He has about 200000 more than I do. According to the Summon Range Calculator, he could summon me but I can't summon him. The only problem there is that he's out of effigies, and that's why he's trying to get summoned. The rare times he does get summoned, the host gets killed.
There are no summon signs near the boss we're both currently stymied by. Except there should be. Ours. I just need a tank to keep the boss' attention because if he looks at me sideways I'm dead. I also do very little damage. My bro just needs another pair of hands. And humanity.

I'm deep in the Shaded Woods, past the mist and in the part where there are curse urns and the enemies have cursed axes. I've gotten tons of great loot, included a new shield good for magic defense, a new axe and scythe, two dragon titanite, and a new very good and artistically designed helm called Vengarl's Helm from a petrified NPC I found in the very misty parts. Looks like a lions head and it's red. He is from Forossa, a land far to the east. I bought three rings for lightning, fire and dark defense, and even found lightning titanite.
The loot in this game is very much expanded upon from Dark Souls and it's terrific. I'm keeping a mental tally of all petrified statues blocking me to come back to later.

Well sort of, but it'll probably be the explosions from a certain monster that do the major damage. Outside of that, I don't think it's a big issue. My Petrification defense is 0, I hope that doesn't hurt me later on.

Well it seems I went the "wrong" way in that I faced the Lost Sinner at an early stage. I even tackled most of the Lost Bastille at soul LV 12 (the default soul level for the warrior class). I didn't spot that lever in the tunnel that leads to Heide so I just reached there and have been wrecking everything with my giant club + 7 up to that area with poison (the name of which escapes me) which I just reached today. Now the game feels a lot more easier especially since I'm dishing out 600 damage with my club (I really want to acquire the demon great mace though as my character looks classy with the Alva armor and hunter's hat and carrying that huge club around as opposed to a metal weapon looks strange).
This game seems bigger than DkS1 though and I've unlocked so many regions, I don't even know where to go to next. I last left of at Manjula repairing my equipment with no idea of where to go next. Do I want to tackle the poison valley of giants where I found the sunlight altar or do I want to continue in No-man's Warf or Huntsman Copse? I have no idea but this game feels like a grand adventure now, more so than the first, where I'm having to stock up on supplies before each journey. It seems that there's more NPC's too and I'm loving that the Crestfallen Warrior's legacy lives on in Crestfallen Saulden (who is voiced by the same actor!) who is either a descendant of the original or the Crestfallen Warrior reborn.
And that cheeky **** shop keeper in Manjula is making me laugh with how he's rich now and sitting down laid back acting badass about it.

Move over, wheel skeletons, we have a new champion in the "Most Annoying Monster" category.
....giant club + 7.....I'm dishing out 600 damage...
Bow down before my Fire Longsword +4, which does 150 on a good day, maybe even 200 if something is weak to fire. Really, if any enemy is strong against magic, I'm pretty much going to be in combat with it for about ten minutes. Those barbarian guys in the Shaded Ruins laugh at my dinky little letter opener and shrug off my soul arrows of varying strength.
I keep saying I'm eventually going to try playing as a tank, but I never do. Doing decent damage to things is a great incentive though.

I'm never going to get 50 sunlight medals. SUMMON ME. My sign is right there. I only got three or four last night after warping back and forth between The Rotten and Old Iron King for an hour or two. Lots of summons, but rarely did a host live throughout the whole fight. I felt bad once - the Old Iron King was starting his death animation just as a host rolled into the little lava pool by the wall.
I wish I was still in the normal level range for the Ruin Sentinels, because I would like to go back and smash their faces.
