I'm never going to get 50 sunlight medals. SUMMON ME. My sign is right there.

I find that the two dragonrider boss fight just past the queen is a great place to be summoned. I got like 30 medals in one night just hanging around that spot.

I just beat the game earlier today and it was great. Better than I expected almost. Definitely feels like the right combination of familiar and refreshingly new enough to hold my interest. I especially like the connection the player has with the last boss. It makes the last achievement make a lot of sense when considering who the player character really is.

I got through the Shaded Wood and thoroughly explored it, and it took me a while to find the path that leads to the Scorpioness, which was a fun but not too difficult fight. Very reminiscent of Quelagg, except Quelagg was pretty hard and had that flaming Chaos sword and magic burst attack. Still fun though. I theorize that the being who created her also created Half Breed Pracilla from Dark Souls.

Made it to Pharros' Doors and thoroughly explored a lot of that, I loved the art design. So incredible. I think I'm going to soon farm a bunch of Titanite from there, too. Maybe tonight...I worked super late but need to play. But let me tell you, I got to the Rat boss in there, and totally and completely got my butt absolutely stomped like four times in a row. I just take too much poison damage from the initial rats and then get one shotted because I can't lock on to the main one yet. After dying super fast and horrendously six times in a row, I left and went to the other area with the dudes wielding Dark magic and the pigs. I got a ton of new souls and have a huge cache, because I have mostly all of the boss souls still and then had like six or seven other soul bundles. Leveled up twice and went exploring, through the spider halls and to a super cool, creepy boss. Lol, that was creepy, seeing the Congregation bowing down worshipping the main Mage, then getting shot with lightning bolts and those old undead women with no legs crawling after me. Tight room. Super clever and fun fight, I decided to pop one of my three divine blessings in response to them :P.

I am sorry if anybody asks me a question or mentions something to me, I'm not reading any more posts until I am done but just leaving my impressions.

Hope you all are having as much fun as I am. This game has me so addicted it sucks my waking thought

I got stomped by the Authority a couple times as well... until my brother told me to

Prowling Magus and Royal Rat Vanguard (not Authority) were two of my favorite fights, but I don't think anything will beat *Cathedral of Blue spoiler:*

I know I'm loving it, although there is something missing... Scottish Siegmeyer Benhart of Jugo sulking outside of the Shaded Woods just isn't cutting it. ;) Actually, he's probably gone now, I haven't been back there to check.

So I beat the game on Wednesday. Overall I was happy with the game. I think Dark Souls 2 offers better dungeon/enivronmental variety, more balanced gameplay, and a stronger graphics engine than the original. Having said that, it's a bit of a reiteration in terms of narrative and doesn't grip me the same way DS1 did. Not particularly surprising as I could somewhat see that before the game came out. And as mentioned before, the environments don't mesh quite as well as they did in Lordran, where the feeling of being in a small section of a larger city/world isn't quite the same.

Some of the bosses didn't impress me and felt like rehashes of older ones, while others were far more interesting/creative(Lost Sinner, Looking Glass Knight, Flexile Sentry). I'll never forget my first encounter with Demon Of Song:

Spoiler

The Soundtrack is close, but not quite as memorable as Motoi's work. I could probably call off the bosses One-By-One if the songs were played. The new characters are a grab bag. Emerald Herald, Straid, Lucateil, and a few others make up for the less notable ones. Visually, it's by far more powerful. Not necessarily in terms of the art style, but the engine itself has a better frame rate and seems capable of quite a bit more. Considering the PC version can handle 60 FPS and 4 times the resolution? Prepare Your Estus.

So yeah, I dug the game and definitely got my money's worth. I'd put it at an 8.8.

I just reached the Shrine of Amana last night. I actually had to leave and pump up my DEX enough so I could use a bow, because for some reason I can't target the mages with my spells, yet they can target me with theirs. I don't have homing soul arrows equipped, but I have them. I wonder if they'll work even if I can't target enemies, or if they'll just sail off into the sky.

Oh... *covenant spoilers*

I am exploring Brightstone Cove right now and got all of the items near the quicksand...also advanced a little further then that, then went back into the well and beat the Royal Rat Vanguard boss...what a fun and unique fight. Joined the Rat Covenant even though I'm playing offline, then went further down all the way to The Gutter. The Gutter in a Dark Souls game...very nice. Going to explore that soon.

I got the one ring that let's you hear others voices from Rhoy the Explorer, and I was in Pharros Doors and wasn't being attacked or even recognized. Couldn't even attack any enemies. Not sure if a bug or an extra benefit of sorts implied in the item description.

I am looking for one single mini titanite shard but can't find one...I'm going to farm a ton and see if I can get one. One little shard is all between me and leveling my Mastadon Halberd super high, to +6 or +7

Bulldemos, The Game.

I thought the Watch_Dogs downgrade was ridiculous, but this is totally next level.

Made some solid progress between today and yesterday. Picked up the souls of the Old Iron King, Duke's Dear Freha, and the Rotten. I think I have a (fairly) could idea of how this game fits into the context of Dark Souls.

Overall, enjoying it a lot. Just reached Drangleic Castle, but I have a strange feeling there's still quite a bit left to go before I hit an ending.

@Shepenwepet: A lot of people miss that, including myself. Found out through a YouTube video, honestly. I'm in New Game+ So I'll be checking it out if I can. New Game+... there are quite a few surprises in that.

You're getting there, that's all I'll say.

I just reached the Shrine of Amana last night.

It's absolutely gorgeous...and a complete nightmare for melee players. Too bad sorcerers aren't doing much better. I still like it anyways. blackjack_zpsdda1154e.png

New Game+... there are quite a few surprises in that.

I hope one of those surprises is vegetable-themed, because it's becoming increasingly unlikely that I'm going to find the helm I want. I know I could just google it to see if it's in the game but I refuse to have my hopes dashed or to be spoiled. I know it'd just be fanservice, but they did give us

Spoiler

Really, though, if the Catarina set is in the game, don't tell me. Unless it's loot in the Shrine of Amana. That'd be the only thing getting me back there. I didn't even thoroughly loot the place. I wanted OUT.

Are there binoculars anywhere? I think you can aim magic with them, can't you? That would've been nice. I got through it, though. A rather ironically named NPC phantom was of no help, constantly hiding waaaaaaay back behind some pillars (maybe she got stuck?) and letting me get killed. On the plus side, I amassed a nice collection of twinkling titanite. Nice of them to slap an easy boss at the end of the level, too.

Well, they kinda did in a way.
[spoiler]I figured Gyrm's Set in Pharros' Place was the closest we would get. You can still buy Mirror Knight's Armor and Smelter Demon's Armor which are extremely badass. I'm partial to the mirror knight meself. :|

Yeah, Amana's Shrine is full of that as a loot drop. Twas the only reason I hadn't popped a blood vessel by the end. That, and the shrine is pretty :P

I never tried aiming manually, I don't think the game has binoculars :( The lack of distance for locking on made that real hard as a mage - I tried the Lost Sinner as one and got my butt kicked.

Well, they kinda did in a way.

If you're referring to the armor I mentioned in the spoiler, they actually did. I've seen folks I've helped wearing it. Never asked where they'd got it from because I wouldn't be able to use it anyway. My guess would either be in the Shrine of Amana or The Gutter/Black Gulch, two places I didn't really care to stay in.

And if you're referring to the Catarina set, I'm intensely curious as to what you mean by "kinda did in a way".

Well, I know where I'm going the next time I play. They have to be somewhere mostly out of sight, because I thought I cleaned that place out.

It's in The Gutter, but you need a key from Black Gulch to get it. The armor has a strength requirement of 20, the shield is 45.

Well I can't say I'm surprised. Although now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I know exactly where that door is, and I have the key. I'm also missing a Gutter bonfire, so I really should go back. I don't know when the bonfire list started displaying "???"s, but it is now, and I'm missing so many. I only have one in the Forest of Fallen Giants, Cardinal Tower. According to the teleport list, there's 4. I guess I wasn't as thorough as I thought. I'm even missing an entire area, which, since I haven't fought a certain boss yet, I assume is Belfry Luna. I never explored Sol either. There's so many things to do.

I think they show up when you can enter Drangleic Castle. I went back and found most of the bonfires I missed. The bonfire you're missing in The Gutter is through a breakable wall on the wooden building with all the ladders that lead to Black Gulch. I left a message there, although I don't know if you'll see it. In the Forest of Fallen Giants, there's a bonfire near the stream at the beginning and another is reached through a locked door beneath the one you've got. Beware of Old Ironclads. The last requires the King's Ring to get to. There's also one at the Cathedral of Blue, to the left before Targray. Belfry Sol also has one that can be reached using a Lockstone in Iron Keep.

I have no idea how I missed either of these. I blame the Brine for me not wanting to walk in the water and missing Crestfallen's Retreat, but Soldier's Rest? I'd been in that room so many times and didn't even notice the door there. Neat little area, too.

Oh, and I got my binoculars and went back and gave those Amana priestesses a taste of their own medicine. It was glorious.

I had fun killing The Duke's Dear Freja, what a friggin messed up name for a boss. So demented, and I love it. I went to Majula after and the bonfire flame movement made me think of spiders on my left, that's how locked into that fight I was. Died maybe six times, once was a fraction of health away and died...I could have breathed and she would have died. I then went into the Gutter and thoroughly explored there, getting every item and lighting all of the torch stances.

Thankfully found a hidden bonfire near The Rotten...had a lot of fun with that fight. I tried four times to beat him at half health, just couldn't do it. I dodged those swipe moves a few times and got placed in his hand for the squeeze, kind of made me mad, because I know I dodged it. But it was a fun fight.

I then went and beat Royal Rat Authority. That boss kicked my hiney like 12 times before I was finally able to beat him. It's those stupid poison rats at the start, the boss himself was easy.

Right now I'm stuck, I need to figure out what to do and where to go. I need the fourth Primal Soul but I haven't a clue where to go. I went to the Shrine of Winter, not there. Still need the mark of the king to open those two doors. And I'm playing offline so I don't have other players giving me the answer. It's starting to annoy me...it is either something I'm overlooking or it's lamely obscure.

I did unpetrify all of the npcs and enemies, and from what I gather, Lordran is long gone, and Drangleic is a new kingdom built on top of the old kingdom that was Lordran. The sorcerer who was petrified in The Lost Bastille told me about how the kingdoms were built upon another, even mentioned The Witch of Izalith and the Daughters of Chaos overthrowing the Everlasting Dragons, referred to as Old Ones.

Got the Pursuer's great shield using his soul and have it at +1. Currently using that and the Black Knight Greatsword, Vengral's armor set minus the helm (use it some but using the headpiece of the Lost Sinner a lot) and also spent some souls.

I'm going to go to the Forest of the Fallen Giants and try jumping, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to start a faith/Dex build

I beat her once and got mauled by spiders directly after, didn't count for the kill, apparently XD Not the hardest boss, but she/he/it can be underestimated.

I dodged those swipe moves a few times and got placed in his hand for the squeeze, kind of made me mad, because I know I dodged it. But it was a fun fight.

Yeah, was hard my first time. the 3-Chop move he does really requires some fast movement speed, so High Adaptability and Vitality can come in handy. I like his design, very Silent Hill-ish.

Right now I'm stuck, I need to figure out what to do and where to go. I need the fourth Primal Soul but I haven't a clue where to go.

If you've gotten Lost Sinner, Duke, & The Rotten, you need to turn the Rotundra in a tunnel near Marjula. It's about the same way to get to Heide's, I believe. The key comes from the Cleric Woman you meet right after beating Dragonrider. I think you can either just flatout kill her or dialogue options may be one other way. The rest I'll leave up to you. *Salute*

Thanks for the info. I talked to her and didn't get anything from her, and playing as a knight, didn't leave feel the need to interact with her. That is bad game design...something that obscure is utterly rediculous.

I appreciate the tip. Massive, massive strike against this game for me.

Yeah that whole ordeal kind of ruined the game for me. I spent six hours trying to find a path to a new area, looked at the entire world twice, analyzed that contraption like four times. And the whole time I, as a Knight, had to chat it up with a Cleric vendor.

Horrible. I really appreciate the help though. But what utterly horrendous game design.

At least for the Main Quest, yeah. DS1 did a good amount of that with secret levels like Ash Lake, or the Baby Sif Wall in the DLC. It's a level of obscurity you might find in NES games, though XD.

Fantastic game overall, but not entirely sure how to feel about the ending and the final boss.

I'm not too surprised based on the connection between DS1 & DS2, but it hardly blew me away.
