I found the Shrine of Amana to be pretty doable(in NG at least). The sorceresses were a pain, but even a strength build can take them out with 2-3 shots from the Dragonrider Bow. The only thing that killed me were those damn, barely visible, holes in the ground.

I like how you can get the Magic Shield (deflect spells by parrying, 100% magic resist after 1 upgrade) in the area right after the Shrine of Amana.

I had three bonfire ascetics in my inventory. I used them at Soldier's Rest.

It's actually up to 9 now.
I want that helm, and I will walk through hell to get it.

Is it bad I keep team killing people with the ballistas in the Pursuer fight and feel a great amount of joy from it?

I didn't know Catarina armor is in the game, I missed it. Where can you get it? Is it an item or in drops?

It drops from a Red Phantom Catarina Knight in Soldier's Peak (I think that's the bonfire name?) during NG+ and beyond.

I haven't played much since my last session, but I have Shrine of Amana, Aldia's Keep and Dragon Aerie at NG3+ because dem upgrades (still in NG postgame lol). I just want to upgrade EVERYTHING. And then only use Halberd +10, BK Halberd +5 and Great Club +10.
Anyone know which Boss Soul weapons are worth it? I'm not much for Dex weapons, though I doubt many people are this time around. I imagine the Moonlight Greatsword is still an old fave, i don't have it because I haven't gotten around to Freja +1 yet. Apparently Defender Greatsword with its infusion special attack is supposed to be super OP. Crypt Blacksword and Sacred Chime Hammer seem to do a decent amount of Dark damage. Ruler's Sword mite b cool but i'm not one for holding a whole bunch of souls at once.

I guess it's a good thing that area isn't mandatory for anything. Shocked you've used 9 so far, I've been afraid to use any Bonfire Ascetics because I don't know the difficulty gaps between NG and NG+ yet. I'm assuming you're using the travelling merchant's hat, item boost coins, Gold Serpent ring, etc?
Yeah, the fact that I didn't even have the soldier's rest bonfire until the end of the game when I went back and got all the ones I missed makes me a lot less fearful of the repercussions of having giant mooks. Soldier's Rest is actually a terrible bonfire, you can easily become surrounded by Old Ironclads when you leave the safe zone.
As for difficulty increases, I only have experience with the giant turtles and onions, and I'm still holding my own. At 9 intensity, the hollow infantry soldiers have about 1200 hp, old ironclads have about 2500-3000 and Sieggy has about the same, if not a little more.
Everything can one-shot me or close to it, but that was the case in the normal game anyway. I'm used to it.
And yes, All the item dicovery boosters I can use, I'm using. He still sometimes leaves nothing.
@eternal - yep, the catarina knight spawns atop the building with the bonfire in it at Soldier's Rest. He's a dark spirit, so I only get one crack at his helm per ascetic. They really should have put this gear in a chest somewhere.

I might have her tackle some of the Shaded Woods as well, and upgrade her stuff. Of I may try to go to Huntsman's Copse

I do recommend trying out a Magic Pursuer's Greatshield +5...it adds to the magic defense and dishes out magic damage in the bash. One shield bash will seriously hurt enemies...something like 270 damage just with that

I love the look, but it's not my first choice for a weapon. Most of the time I just used a very boring +10 Broadsword, and ocassionally the Chariot's Lance - handy for bosses and such.Smelter Greatsword is decent but not really that good. It inflicts decent damage but breaks easily...especially when doing the over the head power swing with special effects.
How to Get a Million Souls in 10 Minutes. Works best for Sorcerers and Ranged.

@Eternal_napalm
Nah, Vendrick is a new character. He is neither the pygmy or the Chosen Undead. Nashandra is not the the pygmy either. The Pygmy was the ancestor of humans who found the dark soul, likely it was Manus (and his name in one language actually means "man" and he is also referred to as the Father of the Abyss whilst being called primal man referring to the fact that he was the first). Nashandra inherited the soul of Manus making her either his reincarnation, daughter or just the spiritual successor. Nashandra is therefore the master-mind behind all the events of the past in DkS2 as she was the one who "warned" Vendrick of the giant threat (of which there was none) and she wants to usher in an age of dark from which she would have ruled with the four souls (which obviously once belonged to the Four Lords of Lordran).
However everything in Dark Souls 2 suggests that the soul is actually the source of the curse and no matter what you do, humans will always become undead.
I was disappointed with the ending really. I would have liked to have at least been given the choice of linking the fire again or choosing not to. Instead, the game leaves it ambiguous so we (in our minds) can say what we did. Either way, it seems whether the fire is linked or no, the cycle is doomed to repeat until someone is able to remove the curse from the human soul somehow.

So does the PC version of DS2 have better graphic and gameplay than Dark Soul 1?

The PC Version isn't out yet so it's hard to say on the graphical side(though it's supposedly up to 60 FPS with multiple times the possible resolution on consoles), but I'd say the gameplay is a bit more balanced than the first. The Estus Flask Chugg-athons have been filed down, and hollowing gives a great deal of incentive to aim for survival instead of just run-and-die-and-learn tactics. The core mechanics are the same for the most part, but a good deal under the hood has been changed. So does the PC version of DS2 have better graphic and gameplay than Dark Soul 1?
I personally reccomend trying the original first, but the second's still a satisfying game.

So apparently they're going to be banning people using save editors and modified saves like the Mega Mule.
Glad to see they are doing something. Sucks for people that just want to try PvP builds, but that's the price to keep people from griefing new players/players with low Soul Memory.

If the image below turns out to be legit, it should at least be as good as Dark Souls with the DSFix hack (I suspect it will be better overall). Probably the biggest issues are going to come if the PC version doesn't have increased texture resolution or improved normal/specular mapping (the original game generally had better texturing than the current console version—some of it really looks cruddy). But that's not something that will be known until we can see it running (press copies seem to be out now, so hopefully we'll get some news and/or footage soon).

Hooray for banning mulers. Hopefully they can do something to ban PC cheaters too, though I'm somewhat doubtful that will be as effective.

The difference isn't enormous, but it's definitely more detailed than the console iterations. I, for one, welcome our new PC overlords.

It's tough to tell, honestly. I *think* some of the textures are in fact higher resolution (though most of the clarity is coming from the increased rendering resolution). It looks like the increased shadow resolution is real, but with the paucity of shadow-casting lights, it doesn't seem to make such a big difference (though there's no footage of the areas where the shadow resolution drops super low on consoles yet).
Sadly, the SSAO still seems to be the really anemic and flakey implementation they're using in the consoles (though it doesn't quite seem to bug in all the same ways, probably thanks to DX and/or drivers). And we don't get any additional dynamic light sources, which is a real shame. But other than that, I think it looks decent, and the increased framerate is going to be a real treat (it feels odd to say it—I guess the original really did work to lower expectations and make things that are unequivocal standard PC features feel like an improvement).
I was more appalled by the controls, however. Double-left-click to power attack? Does nobody at From ever attack spam, not ever? How is this any improvement over the original (for all the flak the controls get, the biggest problem was really the horrible camera that they just straight mapped to the mouse without accounting for it being an entirely different input method than analog joystick)?
At least the permanent Xbox controller prompts are still there. Should make things feel right at home. ![]()

My first PC playthrough of Dark Souls rarely needed it in combat. Outside of exploration, I never used the mouse and went with the numpad for inputting the actions. Locking onto the enemies(outside of crazy stuff like O&S) removed most of the camera issues for me. It'll always be better with a controller/gamepad anyhow, so I'd reccomend that for those waiting for the sequel.for all the flak the controls get, the biggest problem was really the horrible camera that they just straight mapped to the mouse without accounting for it being an entirely different input method than analog joystick
Yep. It's slight, but it's there. For a game this fast-paced and reactionary in gameplay, the frame rate increase is a blessing from Gwynevere. PRAISE TH-And we don't get any additional dynamic light sources. But other than that, I think it looks decent, and the increased framerate is going to be a real treat.
