For only the bravest of knights, yes it is. Compared to the original, it focuses more on combat improvements, graphical improvements, and general fine-tuning under the hood. I personally liked the Story/Lore better in the original, but they did well all things considered. If you loved Number 1, you'll probably love Number 2.

While I personally, like the first Dark Souls a lot more, especially when it comes to characters, lore, bosses, atmosphere and areas, I deem DkS2 a worthy successor. It's hard to top a masterpiece like DkS 1.

They did make combat more fluent though and made backstabs a little less horrible in PvP(in part thanks to the removal of the Hornet ring). I hope they release a DLC soon with something akin to AotA's Battle of Stoicism and drastically improve PvP covenants, because they're extremely broken as of now (terrible rewards, no intact eye orbs and absolutely ridiculous requirements for leveling up).

Its weird how I havent been invaded yet (except for the area specific invasions Rat Cov and Bell Keepers) Im soul level 115 or so and in the Shrine of Amana. Has anyone else had this issue? (Not that Im complaining about not getting invaded  was just curious if this has happened to anyone else)

Edit: Still just in NG. I read online that alot of people dont get invaded until NG+

I was invaded a grand total of once, in Huntsman's Copse. I was backstabbed while looking at the guy. Hit him several times point blank with soul arrows and didn't even register any damage.

My internet is garbage.

I hate that sinking feeling in your gut when you roll away from an opponent and you think you made it in time and then the "lag-stab" animation sequence starts. *Rages Internally*

This is most likely the case. I wasn't invaded much even when the game was released until NG+.

I invaded someone like that at Belfry Luna. Backstabbed him twice with a +10 Greatsword, but it didn't do a thing to his health. I don't know if it was lag or a hacked save.

I was only invaded a handful of times in NG.  NG + is where the PVP happens.  NG has it's own server and then NG + and onward share a server.  Smart move by the dev, prevents cheap pvp players from trolling inexperienced players.

NG + I was able to invade 500+ times.  finally got tired of pvp after getting to rank 3 in the blue sentinels.  what a grind that was.

Wow I had no idea that NG+(and onward) had its own server. I learn something new everyday.

I might swap my strenght-faith build for a quality-faith build for PVP. I love the BKGS, but the Sunlight Sword's moveset and A-A scaling is just gorgeous. Seems to work great with the Leo Ring, Stone Ring, and Blade Ring +2. Throw in Sunlight Sword, Sunlight Spear, Sunlight Parma and the Heide Knight armor and we have a PVP viable Solaire cosplay.

I agree on the Dragon Remnants, most of these guys are hell bent on winning matches and don't give a damn about fairness or honor. Though I've lately encountered a lot of Sentinels in the arena that are the exact same.

Have that sunlight spear ready for when they are about to chug.  Works like a charm. ^_^

I can't speak for others but when I was invading as a blue sentinel I usually(90% of the time) waited until the person finished the PvE first.  I got many thank you messages for this behavior whether I won or lost.  On one invasion I caught somebody at the end of earthen peak and he just immediately did "have mercy" 3 times so I ran and jumped off a cliff, guy was very shocked afterwards.  I also bow in the arena because I'm a nerd and I like to roleplay, I feel like a blue sentinel would be honorable.

Well, there's the spears, like you said, WOG(though it's very hard to get), sunlight blade, great magic barrier, perseverance, caressing prayer and all the different types of healing.

Also if you're an intelligence-faith build you get a few very nice hexes.

It's too bad Darkmoon Blade is gone, that buff was amazing in DkS1.

WoG still looks pretty lame. How viable are spears in PVP, this time around?

I've pvp'd some with a pure strength build, and most spear miracles are usually pretty easy to beat. With a decent shield they'll only chip off a small amount of my health and then I've got plenty of time to run in a crush the caster. Dunno how they fare against lighter armored players.

First time posting in here, just want to add that DkS2 is absolutely amazing. Haven't finished NG yet, still trying to beat every boss before I do that. Still need to fight

Very easy to dodge and roll through.  But it's useful when somebody is drinking an estus.  Or if you're in a 2 v 1 situation you tend to get rushed by overconfident players and sunlight spear will OHK one of them if you're lucky.  Very tough to hit a seasoned player with one though.

I thought about going all the way through the Pilgrims of Dark covenant but then I just got frustrated and killed Grandahl to get my dragon chime.

WoG was incredibly strong if used right in DkS1 and it's still pretty good, only much more rare (gain rank with the blues or buy it from Wellager in NG++). Spears are gorgeous in PVE and decent in PVP.

I like to use Sunlight Spear against casters and gankers, a player with medium health can easily be one-shot with that miracle(deals 1200-1700 damage with 50 faith and an upgraded, good Chime).

Healing miracles, great magic barrier and sunlight blade are the only miracles you really need for PVP.

Eh, call me superficial but there's also the factor of looks. WoG never really resonated with me since it was just a short "BAM!" of energy. Compare that to the Firestorm or offensive INT spells and it looks (and feels) pretty lackluster.

Speaking of Giantdad, it's the Manikin Mask not the Lost Sinner's mask that has been the spiritual successor and become the new troll mask. I confused the name a page back.

But despite all the Giantdad 2.0's and tributes. I don't we'll see another build like it for a while. Most of the tribute/legacy videos are try-hards even using the same jokes (which are old now). If you're going to return a legend to life then do it right like the creator of Captain Onion did:
