I gave up even before Dragonrider. I miss the days of taking out Ornstein in half a minute with Soul Spear. Those were the days. I'll always prefer a Knight-ish character for Dark Souls. Yeah, they definitely caught on to it being the ez mode class in both previous games... Only now they just made Cleric the ez mode class.
And speaking of turtle tactics, I'm finding spears to be very disappointing as well. Oh lordy this playthrough is not going very well.

I remember being extremely frustrated in early game playing as a sorcerer. I'd never played as one in DkS1, I began as a cleric that quickly ditched her faith for flames.
Since there was no pyromancer class in II, I picked sorcerer. All the neat equipment I was picking up and couldn't use... it was almost like the game forgot that there was a sorcerer class to begin with. It was almost halfway into the game that I got a second staff. I used my basic armor set until...Vengarl's, I think, which I quickly tossed aside for the Catarina set, as all must.
But dat Great Heavy Soul Arrow.
It all worked out in the end.

Really? I found Sorc to be the easier compared to other classes in the beginning - I guess it depends on how you play. Getting that Faith and Int to 20 and talking to the Hex dude at Huntsman's, gives you an epic set and staff, so it becomes boss.

I recently just finished the game as a sorcerer build. Well it was planned as a sorcerer from the start but then I turned her into a hex build. Hexes are way more powerful than sorceries and the best sorceries take far too long to cast leading to a great disadvantage (IMO) for a sorcerer. God knows how well a pure-sorcerer would function in PVP. Hexes are more powerful and far quicker to cast. Indeed, some say they're over-powered.

I've been trying to farm the visible aurous set from the dark spirit in no-man's wharf. So far I've killed him 10 times, while wearing traveling merchant's head, prisoner's tatters and the covetous gold serpent ring +2.
Not. A. Single. Drop.
I'm going crazy.

I've also managed to farm the whole Mad Warrior set a few days ago and now I wear the gauntlets and greaves with Lucatiel's Vest and the Hunter Hat. Fashion souls ftw!
Yeah, the Visible Aurous set is quite hard to farm, I only managed to get the chestpiece so far. Velstadt's armor goes very well with it in design and color, so you can swap out pieces if you don't have the whole set.

NOT WELL. Granted, I'm quite terrible at fighting anything with a brain, but while bellkeeping, I pretty much had to hope for a second keeper to get summoned with me. Everything of mine was so easy to dodge. The only time I actually hit someone was because I got the jump on them using Chameleon.

The sheer glee you will feel when a piece finally drops is worth it. Then you will sink back into fury as you proceed to only acquire multiples of that same drop.
I half expected FromSoft to patch the set I was farming so it would all drop at once just after I got it. I didn't have a problem with the frequency of drops myself, but the fact that I could get six different items really slowed the process down.
Ten fights without a drop, though? Ouch.

I know, right? I've decided that I'm too weak to effectively farm it now, though, so I'll postpone aquiring that set until I fell I've gotten strong enough to take on the hardest difficulty. I'm dying way too much as it is, right now.
But yeah, I know that once I actually have that set I'll feel soo happy about it, simply because of the agony I'm feeling right now when I don't have it. It's what drives me.
On another note, does anyone have a suggestion for a good strength-based weapon? I'm still using the heide knight straight sword +10, and while it still works it's starting to feel a bit sluggish. I don't like slow-hitting weapons though. Any ideas? I've got quite a bit of faith aswell.

A good ol' Mace should wreck anything in PVE, you might also try to imbue it with lightning if you want.
I'm also liking the Craftsman's Hammer, it does decent damage and is fast; the downside is that it requires Twinkling Titanites to upgrade, and those are a bit hard to find.

I chose to use a soulvessel to use a dex build, instead. That way I have access to lots of fast hitting weapons (using Manslayer right now, with no upgrades it still does more damage than heide sword did with +10), and my bows that I'm getting strangely more attached to the more I use them are actually more useful now than to simply pull mobs without engaging the entire pack. Neat!

You can always go for a quality 40 str/40 dex build and get the best of both worlds. I'm using a 50/40 build and can efficiently wield every melee, ranged weapon and shield in the game now

Once I get more levels I'll probably go that route aswell! ![]()

If you decide to eventually go quality, try dual wielding weapons, the damage skyrockets with certain combos. ![]()

I agree, cleric build are easy mode, you can spear spam without much effort. I resort to melee sometimes just because in my cleric build. Emit force is a powerful miracle, too. I prefer plaing pure melee, but I loved my pryromancer from the first game

Honestly, stuff like this is my biggest problem with the Souls series. That kind of weak **** belongs on crud like Phantasy Star Online or a Korean MMO, and it should stay there.

I gotta admit, this is very clever:
Lost it at the part where the invader gave him stuff. Shadow gear? That stuff is rare. (Only managed to get the helm while farming aurous).

I read this abit late, since I started farming aurous again today, and looted the helm, chest and entire shadow set in four runs.
Only the aurous hands, legs and 1 shadow claw to go and I'm done with that hellhole called no-man's wharf!
Congratulations on the onionbro set! I've still to get any piece of that! ![]()

Congrats! I'm curious as to how long it took you and how many of each piece you have. I think I ended at 25 or 26 intensity with 5 leggings, 3 armors, 2 gauntlets and 1 helm. I think my tally is a few pages back.
I swear the game held out as long as it could with that helm because it KNEW I wanted it.

It took me 19 tries in total, but I now have the full aurous set!
If anyone wants a pair of the aurous gauntlets or shadow helm, I've got spares. I'm on pc.

Thanks Shep, you're probably gonna hate me now, but I got very lucky and only had to get it to intensity 15. Only got every piece once, but I did get half a dozen of those damn broadswords.

Actually got invaded at Heide's on a new character, level 25. It really is a shame how low-level red phantom invasions are discouraged by the new game mechanics, especially since high-level, or regular pvp is probably at the lowest point its ever been in the series.
