I didn't feel overpowered having 'Mace+7' and 'Huge Club+7' when fighting Both demons though! Dodging the Iron King's beams gives me a little room for preparing to attack him sadly. If you get too near he can punch you and/or fire breath you to the lava.

Like the design. Maybe it'll be like Sen's Fortress.

I just hope the enemies won't be mainly humanoids in armor wielding big weapons and having high magic resistance. Also hopefully the boss won't be just another Nashandra (But of course this is how it's gonna be since these crown dlcs have the running theme of kings who were corrupted by a shard of Manus). Eh...

Should I wait for an inevitable "complete edition" of Dark Souls 2 I wonder? How long is the first DLC? Five hours? If so, I'd imagine the two remaining ones would be along the same length, I heard that From is aiming for them to all be the same length. For a complete price of £20, I'd expect the DLC to be big content wise.

well this is a very ill advice. you see, when you summon somebody, be it player or npc phantom, boss is getting stronger. No so much by damage or health, but by damage reduction. As result, you are making boss battle "harder" for no reason at all. Actually an example of horrible damage reduction you can see in the DLC.

In order to defeat Smelter Demon you don't need a shield. You just should roll through your left side. This boss is harmless like a newborn kitten.

Well, it's possible to get Lucatiel stuck behind the fog gate and fight the boss without the risk of her dying, thus avoiding the need to summon her for the Rotten. Lol first time I see someone call Smelter like that. I'm curious, did you actually find any of the bosses "difficult" at all?

Yeah, I agree that it's not exactly the toughest boss. Flash sweat and ring of fire protection should be enough to protect from his body's flames and the rest is all up to rolling.

After all the buff's Lucatiel received she almost killed the Smelter Demon herself the last time i summoned her on NG++.

Lucatiel is very useful for ranged players as she got a big health buff with the update.

I'm not sure if there's exceptions, but it should be:

1 summon = +50% boss health 2 summons = +100% boss health

I agree about the rolling, but the Gyrm Warrior shield with its 100% phys/fire reduction is also great if you have the strength.

no and that's a problem.

I just made another run, with the Sororitas, Dark Souls 2 style.

Spoiler

As you can see she is using a spear, and that weapon is not very handy, simply because of the damage type. All solo, no phantoms. This character has died 9 times, but she didn't died to a boss.

As it now i can name... few bosses in Demon Souls, few bosses in Dark Souls which are fun, or have interesting mechanics. Some of these bosses are gimmick fights because of their size. Some bosses are heart breaking, like a Saint and a Knight in the Demon Souls or Sif in the Dark Souls.

But as i mentioned before, in Dark Souls 2 i can't name any fun bosses, or interesting bosses. Double Pursuers are fun to some point, and that is about it. And first DLC has failed to deliver so far.

Level design is great, puzzles and stuff. But boss fights are very sad in Sunken Crown.

Yeah true that, but ah... i don't use shield such as great or just shield. I prefer small shields like bucklers. Parry for the win. And because of that, when i fight the boss i use a weapon in the both hands. Because even if you can parry the Sinner, for example, you waste too much time on that. So no great shields/shields, only dodge and parry.

After all the buff's Lucatiel received she almost killed the Smelter Demon herself the last time i summoned her on NG++.

right. but here is the thing. when you summon somebody, be it a player or npc, it becomes harder to predict what boss is about to do next. Its aggro can switch between targets, and as result it can be very annoying. As example Smelter can push Lucatiel in the wall and as result he will begin to do swing, thrust and jump attack with following aoe. When by fighting this boss alone you could poke him several times after each of his attacks. I just see no reason to extend boss fight time.

Yeah sure i coop, but as phantom, i never summon players or npc phantoms for a boss fight. (except for the run when i did that for achievements.)

Thanx guyz for the info. I'll approach the Smelter Demon with fast attack and dodges(&rolls) and Mace+7. Or probably my Lightning Axe and my aggressive faith spells.

You don't need to roll around like the streamers who all play naked and exclusively two-hand their weapons. A good shield should mitigate his weapon damage if he strikes you; you only need to dodge his leap attack and his ranged strike (IIRC he can shoot a stream of flame that extends the length of the room). (You also don't want to block entire combos, but that's true for every enemy; just back away or roll through his second or third swings—you'll eventually get the timing right if you don't succeed the first time).

Just stay away from his AoE pulse, roll from the attacks you don't want to block, and beat him up. Lucatiel is perfectly fine for drawing aggro, and with the early patch buff, she has real survivability in this fight; her summon sign should be right outside the Smelter boss room (unless you killed her; it's possible you need to speak to her in her three earlier locations before the sign will appear, and you do need to be human).

If you need additional help, there is a magical pool somewhere nearby that, if you roll around in it, you will get wet (your clothes will get a damp appearance, and you will start leaving footprints). You stay wet for a long time, and it hugely reduces fire damage.

For the Iron King, all his attacks are telegraphed to the point that they should be trivial to dodge (with practice), and his recovery is so long that you should find ample opportunity to attack (usually his fists). You should try to bait the long laser attack; it's criminally easy to dodge, and he stupidly performs the entire attack every time (so you just dodge to the outside of his hand once he brings it down and can usually get in two or three solid hits). Just stay at a medium to long distance from him, and he'll tend to try shooting you (if you get too far, watch out for his fire stream). Don't even equip a shield in this fight (take it off to lower your equip burden, and two-hand your weapon); I think most of his attacks have AoE damage (meaning they can hit you from behind even with a shield raised) or will drain all your stamina and potentially knock you down. You can also use gold pine resin or aromatic ooze on your weapon to increase your damage output.

The gargoyles can be tricky. Just concentrate on one at a time; dodge around and block their attacks until you find an opening to attack a single gargoyle, and then focus on that gargoyle until it's dead (you'll probably have to spend a lot of this fight just running around). Rinse and repeat. Fire resistance and plentiful healing should be enough to keep you alive, depending on your gear and level.

You can summon Lucatiel of Mirrah for a fight with Smelter demon. Her summoning sign should be around there:

Spoiler

if you are human.

Same. I kept hearing Ornstein's name being mentioned before so hoped his armor would appear in this dlc, but sadly no. Heh, they could have atleast put some Artorias-like armor. A little fanservice wouldn't hurt.

All the helmets look like sh*t, tho.

well, there should be some Child of the Dark or something like that. But some people on steam were mentioning that blue Smelter is the only recycled boss for a dlc.

Yeah, I heard people mention this Nadalia, a shard of Manus that corrupted the OIK. Heh, we'll see what it is tomorrow anyway. One can only hope it won't be another reskinned Nashandra.

I'm still hoping for Ornstein's armor, but that new pseudo-Artorias armor looks great too.
