I love that ending. It brought tears to my eyes.

Fume Knight...
is...
awesome....
anyway. just made a run through the DLC and i like it. Except for two instances.
1) path to Blue Smelter is poorly designed.
2) path to Sir Alonne is not good either.
Design of the level is very nice, mechanic with buffing totems is good as well, Fume Knight kicks ass - best boss in DkS2 so far at least for me.
No idea where to get what in terms of armor and stuff, but i'll figure that out.
Fume Knight!!1
Massive Iron king DLC spoilers, you have been warned!
Fume knight was indeed really, really cool. You can buy his armor (aswell as the knight Alonne armor) from that merchant in the iron keep. Magerigold of Lanafir I think his name was?
But yeah, this can't be said enough: Fume knight ROCKS! His entire character and armor is heavily inspired by Artorias from DS1, imo the best fight and character in that game. You can even find Greatsword of Artorias later on in the DLC, albeit under a different name.
Another awesome thing about Fume knight is that it turns out he is the rebel Raime, former left hand to King Venddrick, who rebelled against him and got chased off by Velstadt. It's pretty funny how this character has evolved to become such a big part of the DaS2 lore, seeing as he first appeared in the description to one of the "make your own shield" contest winners, namely, the Rebel's Greatshield.
Review:
Overall, the Old Iron King DLC IS better than the sunken king DLC, even though I preferred the scenery in the former one. Lots of nooks and crannies that need to be explored, tough enemies and encounters (especially those giant warriors who shoot lava from their shoulderpads, making them really hard to flank!), an engaging sidequest to try and find all the scattered soulpieces which in the end results in a boss soul, and lots of fun little mechanics all over the place. I strongly recommend those of you who haven't done this DLC yet to bring along a cursebite ring, though. There are lots of cool new armor and weapons, beating what we got in the sunken king by a mile, both in quantity and awesomeness. A couple new pyromancies that I haven't tested yet, but which sounds really fun to use, etc.
I still have to find two of the bosses, and I feel like I've pretty much gone through the entire DLC area. Twice. It can be a bit of a chore, as Althix says, but one of the biggest flaws in DaS2 overall for me is that the entire game felt too linear, so having to actually try and find everything is a nice change of pace to me.
So can anyone tell me how's this DLC for a hexer/sorcerer? Do enemies/bosses have high magic resistance? I just wanna know whether to bother trying it with my magic character on ng +

No spoilers -> It's fairly melee based, and surprisingly enemies aren't too resistant to fire, but have decent resist v Lightning or Dark. All of the bosses are massively melee biased. Two I think have fairly high resistance and the last is just really aggressive and you won't have time to cast much.

Edit: holy majestic greatsword dual wield batman
Yeah, I tried it anyway once I had time. It went pretty smooth for me till I reached the Fume Knight. Didn't do a lot of damage using both dark and sorcery. Got him to half health with my sword, then he killed me with his fire AoE. Might try again tomorrow. I like this boss. Much better than the bosses from the main game.

can't help it, sorry.
His Sword-Slashing movements are similarly hard to read like ole' Art, though Fume isn't as big on jumps. Shadow Knights are best knights. Two Swords, Two Speeds; they'll have to stay on their toes. The IGN reviewer died 100 times to that guy o.OHis entire character and armor is heavily inspired by Artorias from DS1, imo the best fight and character in that game
Give us smooth, Give us silkies... those bastards never gave me something good!
And I think I just give up on those 3 bosses. I might try Lost Sinner though.

I hate those geezers. Their voices are annoying.
Finally beat the Fume Knight. His flaming greatsword wasn't as difficult to dodge. Tried co-op, but none of the hosts survived. One went in wearing Velstad's set and the boss immediately buffed.
Sir Alonne, in comparison, was easier. Overall, he felt less intimidating. Loved the design and the music. Pretty damn awesome. Is his katana any good, btw?
no idea about katana, don't like this weapon in the game or in general. too much hype for a heavy, short sabre.
as for Sir Alonne, if you can dodge Alonne Captains, you can dodge Sir Alonne. Which means this boss is easy as it can be, even Smelter is harder.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmhm... speaking about katanas. Well we all know that iron in Japan sucks right? So i find it ironic that Iron King's army consists of soldiers armed with katanas. Some kind of self mockery i believe. Or wishful thinking.
Yeah, I agree. Sir Alonne was indeed easier. No idea why people b*tch about him being too hard. Didn't bother fighting Smelter Demon Mark II so I dunno whether he's any more threatening than his brother. I'm surprised they didn't make Nadalia a boss fight, instead choosing to go the Voldemort route. Also kinda disappointing there's no memory where you could speak with the Ole Iron King himself.
Well, Iron King was fascinated with all things foreign and unique according to the blacksteel katana description. Katanas and samurai armor look cool so that's probably why he thought it was a good idea to forge them for his alonne knights.
Btw, while doing co-op I was summoned with some guy who did fancy martial arts kicks and hadoukens? Anyone know what was that allowed him to do these moves?
i believe its hidden somewhere in the game files. maybe for the next dlc.
... side thought.
we all can agree, i guess, that Demon's Souls have the best lore in entire series of souls games, when combat is superior in Dark Souls.
However in these two games world is talking with the player through characters, items and enemies. World is made so well, that you don't really need a journal or quest log, narrative is part of the game, the more you progress the more you know about world around you. Immersion is great in those two games and i guess none of us can deny that.
And with DmS and DkS games as a background, DkS2 looks very pale, hollow and empty. Majula is basically huge marketplace. NPCs there are just vendors. They add nothing to the world, they are not helping with immersion as well.Kill more bosses attitude is a major thing of the game. Seriously though, the only decent npc in the entire game is a cat Sweet Shalquoir. Be she can't pull this out all by herself.
After revisiting DmS and DkS games, after refreshing all these memories i really can't see DkS2 as a good game and proud successor for the series. Dignity is the aspect that lacking in DkS2. And another problem, that these DLCs are not lifting this fog of hollowness from the game.

It's Nexus 2.0, or at least trying to harken to the same hub world that Demon's Souls had. I'm not sure how immersion was hurt. I'll admit not much character-wise is going on with them(outside of the Emerald Herald). Not even mwahahas. Okay, maybe a few mwahahas.Majula is basically huge marketplace. NPCs there are just vendors. They add nothing to the world, they are not helping with immersion as well.
Lucatiel & Straid?Seriously though, the only decent npc in the entire game is a cat Sweet Shalquoir.

no mwahahas, more like kekekes by a cat.
Lucatiel and Straid? Well first one is terrified by the curse and another one has been petrified for shhh loads of years. Basically we learn about the Queen only after some time, almost at the end of the game. Which makes most of the npcs rather useless from plot's perspective. Not to mention some doubtful decisions, like why dragon's soul is similar to Lord's soul.
As for changes under the hood? hard to tell really. If you remember DmS had grasses as healing units, and you could have a lot of them. Because combat in DmS is faster, and it is really hard not to take damage at all. In DkS however, Estus flasks have a great value, because aside from this item and healing miracles you don't really have much options to heal yourself, except for few very limited items. But that's ok because combat is slowed down a little bit with more obvious telegraphing.
In DkS2 however, we have many healing options with slow combat. And there are some other mechanics as well, some are great though.
And yes i am aware that DkS2 is sort of forsaken product. And i also aware of reasons why Bloodborne looks very awesome even now.
The last thing I have time for during a boss fight is to perform a healing spell!
The dlcs are great. Can't believe how they put the Catarina Helm in a chest!
What.
What.
Spoiler
LOL especially after how long you spent farming for it!

I only get one crack at his helm per ascetic. They really should have put this gear in a chest somewhere.
Well. I guess I asked for it.
What.
