Is there a reference to Giantdad or any DkS meme anyone has found? I'd love to see that.

Some additional thoughts:

Currently stuck in Forest of the Giants and noticing some gameplay changes that I'm not a huge fan of.

These include:

1) Limited Estus Flasks.

2) The game continuously cutting my health in half.

3) Enemies eventually stop respawning.

4) Dual-wielding still feels extremely weak.

I get Dark Souls wants to be more punishing, but I wish that was done more through more difficult enemy encounters rather than continuously penalizing my character. Given that, even at full health, there are enemies capable of taking more than half your health bar away in one swing, the life drain just makes the game tedious since I'm simply spending more time respawning at the bonfire.

I think the above would be a bit less if a problem if I thought my swordsman was worth a damn, but so far dual-wielding (as Dom points out) doesn't have too many advantages, even with expanded move-sets. Equipping a shield suddenly made the game feel like easy mode, to the point where it's unfair. But near as I can tell, characters who dual wield do not attack faster or have any other auxiliary benefits attached.

Still enjoying the game a great deal, but a bit disappointed in the viability of dual-wielding since that was one of the issues the devs were looking to address.

Just did a search into Dark Souls 2 "dual-wielding" stance. Anyone happen to know anything in regards to it?

I can at least say that doesn't apply as much to Bosses. Even with blocking, they can still nick your health bit by bit. Fighting O&S feels easier all of a sudden...

2) The game continuously cutting my health in half.

Being hollow was never really penalized unless you planned on bringing The Sun Praiser along for the ride. My advice would be to store a ton of Human effigies - Save them until you've honed your skills at a boss fight(where you have all their movesets memorized), pop one, and give it a go. Most of the level dungeons can be ran through if you happen to know where to go.

3) Enemies eventually stop respawning.

May have been done to prevent grindfests - seems to be based on how many times you've killed them. I'm guessing 15+.

1) Limited Estus Flasks.

Check the link to nab some, one of them's available very early on. But yeah, it makes things tough. The gems are helpful, but it's definitely not something you can abuse. Most bosses won't give you the chance to use them.

Understandable, but I think there were other viable possibilities to prevent grindfests. The blacksmith (for example) now only sells a limited number of titanite shards. Alternatively, they could simply make enemies stop granting souls after X number of kills. What I enjoyed about Dark Souls was struggling to memorize enemy attack patterns just long enough to reach the boss.

My first run through Blight-Town (for example) I didn't realize there were two bonfires, one on the stone archway, and one down in the swamp. Beating Quelaag with only ten estus flasks after struggling through that hellhole felt amazing.

Just a few things:

1) If you want to get your health back to full and you're out of effigies, get yourself summoned. Each time you help someone defeat a boss you get back some of your humanity.

2) Judging by all the bloodstains, the PS3 community for this game is bizarrely incompetent.

3) Blue Sentinels get no action. I haven't gotten summoned a single time, despite having never taken off that ring since I joined.

4) I've only needed to make use of the torch mechanic in one area. Pretty disappointing.

5) I <3 Great Club

6) Emerald Herald <3 hearing herself talk

Got my copy today and I'm really enjoying it so far. After playing DeS and DaS so much that I know them inside out, I'd forgotten how tense Souls games are when you're new to them. Even something as simple as walking around a corner for the first time is suspenseful.

So, I picked it up, cause my friends told me too, so I had to try it, just for the hype and see if its worth it. It was either this or TitanFail... And well, EASY choice.

Question, didn't play Dark Souls 1 or Demon Souls. Have played RPGS and beasted Witcher 2 Dark Difficulty. So, I'm not a complete n00b at action RPG's.

But.... I am a n00blet with DS.

I want to play the Swordsman. So any tips???

From the stats, it seems that DEX is the most important factor and then finding swords to compliment it.

Any tips.

I'm about to start.

And I have a feeling I'm gonna get pwnd... Hard.

Learn to fight with one sword first. Use weapons you like the move set for rather than those with the highest stats. The tutorial area is easy so you should grind some souls while you're there. You can use them to level up and purchase gear once you get to Majula.

Dark Souls 2 Tips and Tricks.

Overall from my experience? Don't rush the game. Read the movements of your enemies and react to it. Don't let deaths get you down(or try not to). Let them teach you how to survive next time. When in doubt, run like hell to the next bonfire. For boss battles, if it's taking ridiculous times to beat them, try using a video guide on how to beat em' - I admittedly did that a few times. I wouldn't bother with parrying unless you've got some killer reflexes. Blocking usually works fine. Not as sure about Dex/Str, it depends on the weapon I think.

1) Don't bother with dual-wielding, at least at first. If you're new, a shield will give you a much improved sense of security. And you won't have the stats to unlock dual-wieldings power mode, which (at least I hear) is solid. To truly make dual-wielding effective, you need stats at least 1.5 times whatever the base requirements of the weapons are. So if you want to dual wield two short swords, which require 10 strength and 10 dexterity normally, you'd need stats of 15 in each to unlock the special move sets.

2) Take everything *slowly*. Dark Souls is a game that, more than combat itself, punishes players who aren't observant, via traps, hidden enemies, and cliffs to fall off of.

3) Don't be afraid to make frequent "safety" trips back to the bonfires, once you've explored little hidden areas. Dying is hell, and you want to preserve your health as much as possible.

Thanks peeps, maybe I should play Knight or Warrior first. But... damn that duel wielding looks sick. But, maybe I should use a shield.

For a beginner, I'd recommend Knight(which I'm playing as, at the moment) based on the high HP stats. This is especially handy if you've hit full hollow(50% health). You'll get better Dex/Str with a warrior, so if you think you can manage it, more power to you.

Since I'm here, some strategy tidbits for The Lost Sinner battle.

Don't be discouraged if you decide to play a Knight or a Warrior.

For starters, your starting class in both games only affects your initial attributes and your equipment, which won't matter much in the long run. With time, a knight can be turned into a sorcerer or vice versa. Your starting choice simply decides how easy it is to make the conversion.

You can even be a dual-wielding warrior. I'd simply recommend the Warrior or Knight first because without the required attributes, dual-wielding won't be getting you the results you might want, while a shield will give you more leeway in your positioning, especially while learning enemy locations. Just pump points into strength/dexterity and you can eventually dual-wield, even while using a shield to get used to the game mechanics.

So I guess, I should just go a Knight that's what you guys are saying???

Bout to start in about 30 or so mics, so I gotta decide sooner rather than latter, lol.

I am going to die. A lot.

Warrior might be a better option. You can pick up a dagger in the tutorial if you want to try dual wielding and you still have a shield to fall back on if that doesn't work out for you.

It's high enough to get you started. You can just add points later if you feel it's needed.

Okay, cool. The Warrior might be pretty cool, I watched some vids. Looks kinda nimble, and yet has some good heavy attacks and also a Real shield (not the derpy wooden one that Swordsman has). So what exactly is the warrior great at??? How should I build it???

Thanks for all your guys help BTW, I am such a n00b at DS, lol.

I'm playing as a Knight, and exploring thoroughly. I will write vaguely to avoid spoilers. I'm about eight hours in and loving it. I'm still in Forest of the Fallen Giants, at the second boss. He appeared before one time on a flat rooftop and kicked my hiney, then didn't reappear, probably a precursor and tease, because last night before I went to bed I died about six times. I figured out a strategy though, so I am going to try that after work.

It's as addictive and fun as the first game. Definite graphical improvement and the AI is smarter. More high level enemies early on, and they can land shots sometimes when circle strafing, I blocked some blows where in Dark Souls they would miss. Still using starting gear but bought the missing helm from the set, pretty cool. I have two rings and know of two alternate paths from Majula from where I am...one leads through a sewer to a place, withholding the name, is a fire tower and another that is inaccessible due to a statue blocking it.

Can't wait to get home and jump in again

Sorry, I know this is my third post in a row. DEX is definitely the Warrior class's best starting stat, it'll give you a head start in it, but you can allocate points however you want to when you level. Leveling is different in when you can level, but very similar to the first. If you want to wield more heavy items, and still have a good melee build, I recommend Knight, because Strength is highest. I don't know how much I will wield big heavy weapons yet, but I do want to use the big heavy shields in this game.

I have been leveling Dexterity, Strength, Vigor and the stamina stat exclusively sofar.

3) Enemies eventually stop respawning.

I saw in a review that once you get to a certain point you're able to do "something" that gives you back the respawn, even bosses apparently, which is sort of like NG+ or something, since they didn't spoil it, I don't know much.

End of April needs to come quick, haha.

This has me worried, not that I buy a game for graphics, but still - http://www.incgamers...grade-expect-pc

I hope it's not the same for the PC.
