Obviously there aren't any in the games, but that doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist. We've never seen the Raloi either, and went three games without seeing Turian females (before DLC).

I guess the other thread (now locked) got me wondering whether any characters in the books were described as being obese. I can't recall now.

It makes sense that all the Alliance personnel or alien military equivalents we run into would be in good shape. Besides a high level of fitness being one of the job requirements, they'd have access to state-of-the-art healthcare and things like gene therapy and such. Likewise advances in medical technology and bioengineering have likely greatly reduced obesity for the general population, but has it completely eliminated it?

In the ME Universe Earth still has haves and have-nots. Does obesity still affect the poor, who might not have access to the best healthcare or foods, or things like gene therapy?

Good question. It doesn't seem to affect the poor though, as pretty much the only really poor people one sees are the people of Omega, and I didn't see any obese ones in there.

Some of the Batarians have double chins. But they seem like they're decent shape otherwise.

Well, the citizens of Omega live in extreme poverty, so I doubt they could afford the food required to be obese. Surviving on that hellhole of a station probably requires you to be fit anyways.

I'm not sure about the books as I've only read 2, but I don't think fat people are magically gone. I just think they didn't want to deal with creating diversity across the board in terms of weight or height for each race.. so, instead, we got Krogans and Volus.

Well, Quarians live off an extremely strict, healthy diet and need to keep physically fit in order to survive. Turians are probably too militaristic, strict and hawkish too be obese. We don't ever get to see many Drell, so who knows. I always wondered why we never see fat Asari though.

Yes, that sadly applies to our time, but we don't know how food corporations stand in the ME universe.

Yes, they evolved into the many planets you can explore.

Could Eddie Lang from ME1 be considered obese?

Since America thinks obesity is a disease - maybe they found a cure for it that far in the future.

I don't see why there wouldn't be those of the pudgier waistlines, I just don't recall seeing any in the game. We may need to visit a Mc SpaceDonalds to confirm though...

It's at the very least a severe medical condition. Obesity might not be a clinical disease itself, but it can lead to diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. It also decreases life expectancy by increasing risk of cancer, asthma and osteoarthritis.

Maybe they don't exist cause it would be a pain to bother coding it.

the OP didn't state game, but universe. It would obviously be more effort for the team to implement them, but that doesn't by definition mean that there aren't any obese people in the ME universe.

Krogans aren't overweight though

I'm pretty sure they exist, since food exists. It's just more work for the 3D modellers, animators and the limited resources of the hardware they primarily make the game for. Maybe in the next generation, we can see more variation that way, but don't count on it.

There's that one Cerberus Daily News "plotline" about Skale or whatever it was, so it probably exists, but it would probably be a waste of resources to show it in-game. Also, many people don't want to see ugly (in the common-ish opinion) people in their entertainment.

Also, I've heard there's a fat batarian in one of the mobile games, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Exactly. They could only use eight different character models at the same time. When they wanted to fill the Presidium in ME3 with many different aliens, the squadmates had to go.
